Kane urges young drivers to stay safe
7:14:23 PM Fri 16 December, 2005
The Power’s Kane Cornes urged young drivers to stay safe on the roads this Christmas season when he helped launch the SA Police initiative, Operation Santa Safe, on Friday,
Cornes joined Deputy Police Commissioner John White and Dr Bill Griggs, Head of Royal Adelaide Hospital’s Trauma Unit in spreading the critical messages.
Kane, the Police and many other emergency service representatives and vehicles gathered near the Buffalo at Glenelg on Friday afternoon to launch the road safety campaign.
Kane said drivers needed to think about the consequences of making the wrong choices this Christmas.
“There’s a lot of families who are without their children over this time and its especially hard for them so the main thing is not to just think about yourself when you get behind the wheel but also to think about your family and the effect it would have on them if something happened to you,” Kane said.
Operation Santa Safe will this year be focusing on young drivers. The stats prove very relevant to Kane – young male drivers are particularly vulnerable.
In 2004, 34% of drivers killed were aged between 16 and 25 years. Between 2000-2004, 63% of drivers aged under 25 years who were killed or seriously injured were male.

Good for him. Hope it works but suspect it won't.
Young male drivers = testosterone + thinking they're better drivers than they are + impressing your mates + too powerful cars + risk taking + feelings of immortality = death on the roads
When will we learn?

Funny, I could have sworn I posted this on the Crows board! Maybe it was the typo in the thread title that annoyed them. :D
I put one here and one on their board. Seeing they don't want it there could it be merged with the other thread. (Would it be pushing a friendship to ask you to use the other thread title Bresh or DK? ;) )

I'm responding on the Crows board but keep getting diverted to the Port board.
Is this some kind of trap/cruel & unusual punishment?

It's their devious way of enticing & eventual entrapment of wayward Crow supporters into their lair. :)

Why on earth would you post it on our board - it either belongs on your board or the general discussion board.

My girlfriend works as a nurse in the intensive care department at one of the major hospitials and it's no laughing matter for her to watch a doctor tell a mother or father that their son or daughter has just died especially around this time of the year in fact i think she dreads this time of the year for that reason.

It shouldnt be just this time of year that we should be urging young drivers to stay safe on the roads.
Yes, this is the worst time of year for accidents, but unfortunately, it happens everyday of the year.
I always make a habit of telling my son i love him when ever he goes out. You just never know what is going to happen on the roads.

Two young girls died on the roads near us Christmas Eve. We'd driven that way when returning from the Barossa Valley not long ago. I just feel so bad for their parents.
Take care kids.
