Haven't seen it too widely reported anywhere, but I caught a snippet on one of the weekend news services that it was recruit family day at Port on the weekend just gone. Recruits and their parents/immediate family members were guests of the club and were told about the history of the PAFC and what the club would be expecting of/doing for the new players.

Don't know if this is a recent initiative or how commonplace it is, but it was interesting to see. Matt Thomas's dad seemed very impressed, while Nick Lower's mum seemed very enthusiastic about it all. She's immediately converted to the cause.

I'm pretty sure they've been done before, at least with local families. Either way its a good move.

Would've been funny seeing Cornesy on one :D

....Don't know if this is a recent initiative or how commonplace it is.....I think most AFL clubs do something like this now. It pays tremendous dividends in loyalty from young players and in obtaining support from their families to be at their new clubs. Very important a few years later when contracts come up.
I spoke to someone who was part of Alan Didak's induction to Collingwood. As a good mate he was invited along and even though a Port supporter he was very impressed.

Matty Thomas' father Ken was really impressed, he talked about the history of our great club, and believes we are quite a professional club with a great environment. No doubt Ken will be down here more often to watch Matty play, maybe i can sit with him!
