I saw coon dog out on the town on saturday night and he's weight has balooned out for an afl players standards...
does anyone know his fat % or skinfolds
i'm thinking eade will be pushing him extra hard this preseason
a player of his ability can't be allowed to hamper his obvious talent through being overweight

From last year I am guessing his body fat would be around 12-15%, which isn't bad but still, wouldn't be ideal for a footballer. The club monitors the players skinfolds regularly so I doubt that they would enable him to 'baloon' out as you say. However, if his body fat has increased due to bad eating habits and excessive drinking then it is a major problem and one that should be dealt with quickey by Eade and Co.
Some players are always struggling with their weight/skifolds etc due to their genetic make up. These players often have to monitor what they eat and drink carefully or else run the risk of the excess weight hindering their performance.

Maybe the club has put him on a bulking plan for 6 or so weeks which is conducive for developing substantial muscle mass. Then after the six week period the Coon dogg will undertake a cutting phase whereby he mantains his new muscle mass but rids his body of the excess body fat.
I don't know for sure but if he looks chubby in the face and has little definition in the arms then it sounds as though he is bulking. Take into account he is probably on supplements such as creatine, which often causes a bloated apperance, especially in the face.

i also spotted a few doggies boys out on the town, fat boy hahn was on the turps at blue with walsh, walsh handled him self in a great manner while hahn looked fat ugly and acted like a twit. also faulkner a mate told me he say faulkner at billboards struggling and walking around by him self, not saying its a bulldogs culture because u often see young players out and about but just thought a few here would be interested.

If I had a dollar for everytime I saw an AFL listed player on the turps out on the town I'd be one rich bastard.

I thought the title of the thread was based on fact. I saw him last week and he looked like he had done a fair bit of work. Still has a way to go but I think saying he is fat even puppy fat is a poor assessment.

i would disagree there oldschool
he came to the club with a lot of talent but also a D grade afl players fitness
he was widely regarded as needing to lose his fat, something he even admitted himself, and i tend to think that he has done very little to achieve this aim
I think this thread needs more speculation.
I saw Grant on the town the other day and he looked old.

The two are not linked. His fitness level was sub par when he first arrived and he has improved a fair bit. This is his 3rd pre-season and his time trials have continued to improve.
Most youngsters don't get the physical definitions until they are well into their 20's and Cooney is no different. I think by the start of the season we will see an improved player both physically and ability wise.

Exactly.
I've seen a photo of Baird and I'm sure he is an alien.

True story.
Family Day '99 and we're in the queue (and had been for ages) with my mates kids to get Crofty's autograph when this 14 yo kid (we thought) pushes he way to the front of the queue.
My mate yells out "Hey, line up like the rest of us, ****************" and the kid turns round and says "My name's Robert Murphy, I'm one of the new draftees and I've come to take over signing".

If he got a haircut he would lose 5 kilos. :D
How old is he? 19? 20? A frame like his isn’t going to develop fully til he’s 24ish… he’ll probably carry a little padding til then and like was previously mentioned, he’s probably bulking up now, and looking to tone up later in the pre-season. It’s all part of a process he’ll have to go through. He’s no James Cook though.

being 19 or 20 is no excuse for being unfit and fat
higgins is much fitter and toned than cooney already
in my opinion footy players should not be carrying that much weight, especially as a midfielder

Do you know the fitness regime he’s on?
Do you know how his time trials are going compared to last season?
Do you know what weights/body mass regime he’s on?
If so… feel free to voice your disapproval. If not, then get some facts before saying he’s overweight and unfit.
It’s not round one yet.

Harsh but very fair Gooka. Sometimes we can be far too quick to judge people without any information or facts. The guy is a gun and it's still 2005.

Sorry, I’m not trying to have a crack at anyone. But I think some people here think getting ‘fit’ and getting ‘muscular’ are the same thing, and that they’re a one-step process. It’s not that simple.
As said earlier, he’d be on masses of supplements which would bloat him up and get him to carry a few extra kgs at the moment with the view of building muscle and then later stripping the excess fat away.
Being that it’s December, 4 or 5 months before the pre-season cup, I think it’s a bit short sighted to view a player’s current fitness level or appearance as how they are expecting to show up in 06… and to simply put extra weight down to improper eating or undisciplined behaviour.
... Being that it’s December, 4 or 5 months before the pre-season cup, ...Only 9 and a half weeks. I'm commenting not in relation to Cooney (can't see there's anything to worry about myself) but the thought of waiting another 4 or 5 months to see some new footy - you gave me a fright and I just had to check the calendar.

Ha! Was thinking that I was typing it ... (What an odd film that was and I do know a very funny story along those lines - not involving myself I hasten to add.)
