Went along to the AGM last night.

A big turnout, with more people than chairs, which is an encouraging sign.
The entire playing list (with a couple of exceptions) was in attendence.

Briefly:
* Smorgon spoke with his passion and good humour

* Cam Rose spoke well, although I think he sounds a little like Elliot Goblet

* Finances were gone over, encouraging news was Leaseplan being secured as a major sponsor for 3 years.

* Eade addressed the members and introduced the new draftees.. West is taller than I expected. Hope he gets over that knee quick. I thought Baird and West probably looked the two most ready to play senior footy.

* I think there were 7 life memberships ( I meant to jot them all down), they included Glennis (the receptionist), two physios, who were individually introduced by Scott West and Chris Grant, who both spoke very well. Trevor Flett was awarded life membership as well, and was introduced by David Smorgan. Others were the bloke that mixes drinks (and supplies toffees and marshmellows)

* The goal for membership is 26K again, which they feel we can achieve with the monthly payments, and our good form in the second half of last leason.

* There was a raffle of dubious legitimacy, as the bloke running it had his name drawn from the raffle, and then the second prize ticket drawn was Smorgans wife (which was promptly donated back)... to which David called for the auditors to come in and oversee the remainder of the raffle.

* A lot of people were sneaking glances down at the Recfooty final during the meeting!

Sounds like every single person at the club is sounding positive. Something we haven't had for a while. Great report.

I went, normal mundane type of meeting but good to get footy in the nostrils again. Highlights were Smorgo's passionate words as usual and Cam Rose who speaks well and obviously knows his job role inside and out. Lowlights were Rocket introducing MICHEAL West as MARK West twice (dohhhh) and the finance guy who never sounds convincing but led his speech with the fact that the club has won an award for having the best kept books or something similar and then proceeded to tell the audience that we once again lost a S###LOAD of money. And for those who may have been wondering the playing surface looks magnificent.

Any mention of Justin Cordy's replacement?

Any mention of Justin Cordy's replacement?

Not sure if they announced it there, but I read somewhere that they've given the responsibilities to Matthew Drain. Could be wrong though.

I think I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago. Certainly today Drain was not assisting in training and seemed to be more involved with assessing the players fitness. Bond and Cameron were the most active of the assistant coaches with Welman and SOS a fair bit quieter.

Finals next step in Eade's plan
21 December 2005 Herald Sun

WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade says the Dogs can improve on 2005 by making the finals next year.

But to achieve the ultimate aim of winning the club's first premiership since 1954, Eade says the club had to feature in finals consistently.

Speaking to members at the club's annual meeting on Monday night, Eade said winning 12 games was a realistic target.

"Our aim next year is to make the finals and the sooner we can do that during the season, like at Rounds 18 or 19, (the better). Then we can we can re-assess our goals," Eade said.

Eade said the club probably exceeded expectations with its development last season, when it won 11 games and finished ninth.

"But the trap for that is you can take it for granted things are just going to roll on," Eade said.

"So I'm pleased to report that pre-season has been really good for six weeks and the players' attitude has been great."

Eade said teenage recruits Travis Baird, Shaun Higgins and Dylan Addison were capable of playing in the seniors next season.

And the Whitten Oval club is the only one in the AFL to have two women on its board, following the election of Gaye Hamilton to replace the retiring Trevor Flett.

Hamilton, in her 50s, joins Susan Alberti on the board.

Other directors Jose Romero and Henry Jolson were re-elected unopposed.

Life memberships were presented to Lou Thompson (property steward), Glenice Rhodes (receptionist), Simon Macaulay and Sue Cautley (physiotherapists), Mark Kimpton (head trainer), Mick Beevers (Westerner) and Trevor Flett (director).
