Alberton One Step Away From Success
The Alberton Swamprats have won their way through to their first ever Grand Final after a fighting victory against the Geelong Gumbies today.
In a Preliminary Final that was tight for the first three quarters, Alberton kicked four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the last quarter to break out to an unasailalbe 30-point lead.
Geelong came back and cut the margin back to 15 points halfway through the last quarter but the Swamprats steadied and ended up winning by 17 points.
The Swamprats were led strongly by Captain Macca19, who continued his fine form this year to pick up 21 disposals and 3 goals. Ruck Crazy Big Al had 4 goals and 25 disposals whilst midfielder dyertribe kicked 5 goals for the victors.
Macca19 was excited about what the future holds this week. "Its a great effort by my teammates, to reach the Grand Final in our second season, after looking down and out and only barely scraping into the finals, this is a fine effort."
"We are very excited about this week, we have our first shot at a Premiership and all the players are pumped up to take that trophy home to Alberton. We have a lot of unheralded players that dont neccearily get the respect they deserve, guys like Porthos, blackdiamond and snap-shot. We re-worked the team in the off season and recruited strongly and a lot of those new recruits have made an impact this year. Its great to see the improvement we have taken this year, and we will be going in bloody hard next weekend"
Alberton will meet the Fighting Furies in the decider. They have played each other twice this year for a 1-1 result, with the Furies getting up last time by 16 points.
