View Full Version : Kangaroos V Sydney Jan 15th L.A.
Gameday thread for upcoming Roos V Sydney game. Played at UCLA California after a big week of promotional stuff in L.A as part of the G'day L.A festival there. What sort of teams will run out on the day will be of interest, as will how the facilities there come up. Apparently only going to be stand seating for about 5,000. Does the Premiership hangover start now? Will the Kangas impress early on, or leave the pundits all predicting a low finish for them again this year only to have egg on their faces?

Would be excellent if it was televised - prehaps FoxFooty have something in the mix? I doubt it. Will probably end up being similar to the London Exhibition Match between West Coast and Fremantle late last year. Will suspensions be imposed should reports be laid? It will be interesting to see how Hay, Green, Thurley and McConnell all go in the Blue and White (or what seems to most likely be the Blue Kangaroo) jumper for the first time, while Ted Richards and Paul Chambers may strut their stuff for the Swans.

Unfortunately, this game won't be televised and it may be only 15 players per side (on the field) because the ground is too small.

Really? Damn. What positions would they chop out? Back/Fwd pocket and prehaps an onballer?

The wings are normally the way to go, and then i'd say another onballer, to make it three in the middle for each side. If the ground is as small as people are saying then the whole forward line would have to be moved up the ground to make room around the goals, therefore the wingmen and another midfielder wouldnt be needed.

They mentioned there would be no wings and 3 in the centre square instead of the usual 4,which will be smaller in dimension.
They also said unfortunatly there will be no TV coverage, its an exibition game as a part of Australia Week there so its a part of a whole lot of events and things that will be happening that week - Its not even as serious as the Normal overseas games - there was even talk of no behinds just goals but i they dont know how far that went in planning at that stage.
But like i said - im only going by what they said on SEN a few weeks back so i dont want to be blamed by anyone that im taliking crap - i could be wrong in any of that ,thanks to what SEN said that night,im only going by what they said :)
SEN are sometimes not the most reliable of sources though!

We will cop the mother of all hidings as Wizard/Nab cup, and practise matches are used only to play rookies and reserve graders.
I expect North to take it seriously as they were active in the trading period and would like to show their supporters that they have made the right decisions.
Still,I would like to see the match.

"Kangaroos captain Adam Simpson and veterans Glenn Archer, Brent Harvey, Jade Rawlings, Jonathan Hay, Shannon Grant and Saverio Rocca are being given a break. The 30-strong Roos contingent fly out on Thursday for a week to join in Australia Week activities."

I can't wait going to be at the game. :)

Like I said we are not taking this too seriously.Only "up to 8 premiership players"
"We're just playing the young kids," Roos said.

It is very dissapointing that they don't play some of these great players.
Doesn't make for much of an exhibition match if they are just sending in the reserves.
What happened to the good old Essendon vs Hawthorn Japan Aussie Bowl games where they were just as big and serious battles as regular season games.

With the excitement this match is generating over here it hardly matters. The game is already sold out. Could be the hottest ticket in town this weekend. That's saying something too as UCLA and UofWashington are both ranked in the top 20 with a nationally televised game on Saturday afternoon from Pauley Pavillion.

Is anyone going to record the Revo's match ? Would be good to download some highlights.
Also since it is unlikely to be on TV anyone know if the AFL is doing an Internet broadcast of the exhibition match ?

If it was in November then perhaps you would see more senior grade players. Our oldtimers only recently started actively training, they start serious training later on so they have fresher legs towards the end of the season.
I think the standard should be pretty good. While our kids may not be a Grant or Harvey, there are a lot of good quality kids going to be playing. If we had young players that were just no good then yeah, I wouldn't want to see them play.
It should be a good hitout, nice early practice match. This is what our kids need, many of our kids need to show something special to indicate they want to play at senior level this year, very good opportunity to show your stuff.
is it on radio, like sen or something, if so what time?

I can't find a live score anywhere. SEN are crossing to LA every now and then for an update. Unfortunately you have to listen to KB and Patrick Smith waffle on in between...

According to Craig Hutchinson, North up by 28 at half time (7.5 to 3.1), Thurley playing well for them. Sydney playing rookies - Jude Bolton and LRT among the few "name" players on the field. He says a good game to watch so far. As informative as most interviews on KB's show - they are now talking about Steve Irwin.

Full time North win - SEN kep changing the score but it might have been 48 or 50 points, North might have finished on 13.8.86 or 82 pts. Hard to tell. No risk of hearing anything about the actual game - who played, or anything.
Maybe someone who was there will post something later - hope they had fun watching the young guys run around for both clubs.

Damn, the premiership hangover begun, there is no use playing this season, oh why bother???? ;) :p

I think you need your senior players playing before you can start calling it a hangover. :p
Was good to get an extra practice match for the young kids, was a good opportunity for a kid like McIntosh for us to get a game and get fired up for the last half of the pre-season.

I hope we get to play some more games out there in the future during the pre-season, was a good experience for some of the younger guys.
