Most of Essendon's 'talent' is out injured.
It is very arguable if Essendon have any decent young talent at all.

Richmond have plenty of young blokes coming through and a pretty good mix of senior players. Most defintley going in the right direction. Watching players like Polo, and especially Raines you can see they have recruited well. Throw in Deledio and its a pretty good batch. Cleve Hughes over the next few years will find his feet too. Also there is a handy player in Brown waiting on the sidelines and with the Bowdens playing well, Johnson back, i don't see why so many people want to knock the Tig's. They have rolled Geelong and Adelaide and look the goods.

The thing you got to say about essendon is that their list management makes Carlton's look sensational by comparison. At least Carlton have managed to find gems late in the draft like Kade Simpson and Brad Fisher.
Which young guns do essendon have ? Courtney Johns give me a break.

Mate you are clutching at straws. Look at where Richmond's at, compared to Essendon. They have won more games, plus have drafted decent youngsters, unlike your mob which persists in a silly top-up policy. Also the kids you have drafted apart from Stanton and one or two others, appear berefit of much talent. And it's going ot get worse in the next couple of years when Hird and Fletcher retire. It's what happens when you don't have foresight to plan/prepare for the future. I know because it happened to Carlton.

Both in the bottom 8? It's pretty hard for a bunch of kids, whom are virtually carrying the whole team, to dominate in this competition. The most experienced youngster, Stanton, hasn't even reached his 40th game yet. Having superstars out of the side and other senior players not performing their best (carrying injuries and/or lack of confidence) doesn't help either.
Fletcher has a minimum 2 years to go at Essendon, the club will most likely occupy a spot in the bottom half of the ladder for the next couple of years which will entitle it to some good draft picks that the club missed out on during it's 1999-2001 seasons. Essendon is rebuilding to the point where Hird and Fletcher won't be as vital to this club, more of a 'bonus' to the team. Basically over the next couple of years, Essendon supporter's faith will be in the club's ability to recruit very good young players for its near future.

Hey Lee.
Over a season - thats 22 matches isn't it..?? Wins aren't important at the moment for Essendon anyway (good excuse huh?), its all about giving young players opportunities and giving them experience in high pressure environments.
As well as determining who is going to be part of Essendon post 2006.... Its a season of discovery and development....
It would be nice to have a few more wins on the board, however if having only 1 win means that the list is scruitinised a lot closer then I'll take it.

I wouldn't say its a distinct lack of talent thats Essendons problem, more like a distinct lack of experience in about 10-12 players in the side, and also a distinct lack of form to some key players thats been our main problem.
But don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The aim of my post was directed at the general non thinking people who post on here, not just you. I apologise if you think it was directed straight at you.
I'm just saying the only difference between us winning a few of the close games we lost was the poor form of our experienced players who, if they had have been in form, would have been able to help the young blokes who are at least having a real dip each week. We just need those experienced blokes to make more of an impact and to put a little polish onto the young guys hard work.

Im looking fwd to Rnd 9 very much.
Yeah but to Richmond's credit, they didn't sack a legendary coach and replace him with a 'dunce' !!! :D
It's hard to see where the Scum's next win will come from considering with all their injuries, they have an a poor lack of depth which does amount to a 'distinct' lack of talent :D
Strange how this game and it's teams ebb and flow so much over a couple of years/months/weeks. This year Essendon remind me very much of the RFC last year.

Strange how you went missing last year, now this year you pop out of your box, but I know you'll disappear as soon as the Tiggers lose a few more games. Just like last year when you predicted that you'd finish between 1st & 6th, only to disappear when the Tiggers kept losing. :p
Any club (bar Geelong) will win a GF before Essendon and Richmond :)
How's this for a bad call! Every club except Geelong will win a flag before Essendon & Richmond! Well done CP :p

I have never disappeared. I just choose not to post much any more.

Injury worries?? haha.
I said in another thread recently that Essendon remind me alot of Richmond last year, except you dont have injuries to the caliber we did last year in Cogs, Simmonds and Brown.
Geez that Courtney Johns looks a real find:thumbsu:
Lucky you have Melbourne to save you from last position :)

Now to be fair, I think Scott Lucas is equal, no probably a better player then those players you have listed, but apart from that, you are right, the Essendon list is full of pot-holes, and can't be fixed quickly ...
As if Courtney Dempsey was a big out as well ..
Yeah we all know Johns is a hack, but why do they keep persit in playing duds like Winderlich ? He is one of the worst players in the league ...
When a dud like Jobe Watson is their leading possession getter, you know that Essendon is in deep trouble ...

From this moment on, for season 2006 the club formerley known as the Essendon Football Club shall be named;
A Distinct Lack of Talent
Go forth and spread the word, as it is truth you spread.
My god, the gospel is growing larger each week ...
Funny how those essendon flogs who bagged Dice Man for this thread, well I'm sure they have plenty of egg on their face.
Essendon are right now the worst team, or just about, in the AFL ..
It's bloody fantastic :D

How wrong you are :p
Once again, the usual droplick trolls post their crap, even though both their teams lost again, seems celtic_nopride forgets that his new team was beaten by the Bombers this year.
