This young flanker/midfielder had a learning year in 2005 for the Northern Bullants but was able to sneak one game for the Navy Blues earning two kicks.

I saw a quote from him saying that he is taller than Andrew Walker who is 189cm so he could well be 190cm after beginning 2005 at 188cm. He has definitely put on weight which he needed to do and his fitness is improving rapidly which are all great signs that the boy is working hard.

With Camporeale gone I think he could take the back pocket and/or back flank with a few stints in the midfield. He has extreme pace and very good ball handling skills. His kicking is good as is his marking and with his physical improvement things look good for Russell.

I think we need to play him in every NAB Cup game along with Smith, Hartlett and Blackwell so that we can give them plenty of exposure in the Navy Blues jumper.

I think Russell will be a bolter for us this year and improve plenty and make an impact for the Blues. Let's hope he gets plenty of opportunities and exposure for the Blues and that he becomes a great in years to come wearing the No.2 jumper.

Thoughts on Russell?

I for one hope he steps up this year, played one game last year and didnt really get a go in that game. With getting taller and adding weight he should now be able to hold his own in the senior team, its people like him who we will be looking to in the next few years.

Russell has gone under the radar a bit hasn't he? Haven't seen much of him but on all reports will be an honest footballer.

Smith is injured ATM i believe.

No he does not. Either you haven't seen him or don't understand football.

Yes he does. He handles the pill well and with more confidence and a bigger body shape will be even better in traffic. He kicks well off both feet and takes a decent mark.

By the way, I have seen him play a number of times last year and was impressed with what I saw. I'd punt on you not knowing anything about the game or understanding players at the club. Played footy at a decent level before over a number of years have you..?

perhaps windows you saw a different game.

leave this 'dont udnerstand football' gibes to fans of crap clubs like richmond, OK?

Russell has good ball handling skills, has really good toe, and is learning how to be more defensive. It may take him a while but be supportive please.
