Surprising that Kerr finished 5th seeing he was runner up in the Chaz. Do we not give him too many points because he starts on the bench?
Food for thought.
What I thought was that Coxy would get a lot more Brownlow votes then he did. I thought he had a better season then Kerr. Judd also missed less games then Kerry, and had a pretty good season as well (very good by anyone elses standards). I think the umpires noticed him more because he is our best in-and-under player, he's always the one found at the bottom of packs, getting the ball out.

The way the top 5 have panned out is pretty much the way I saw it. I think the Brownlow count may have flattered Kerr's year a little. Cox and Wirrpunda probably had better years than Kerr but they aren't the sort of players that get large swags of Brownlow votes.
1st - Ben Cousins - 2,484
Was there any doubt? What an amazing year from Ben Cousins which culminated in his 4th B&F, his 5th AA, his 1st brownlow and his 3rd BFWCPOTY award. He was dominant from the start and perhaps looking back on the year IMO, he may have been motivated by Juddamania and Judd's brownlow win.
I think Cuz wanted to remind everyone just who was the best footballer in the state and he did that in resounding fashion as he completely dominated games from start to finish. He had 6 BOG's on the season for the Eagles and it all started in round 1 where he led the Eagles to a come from behind victory over the Crows at AAMI. He had 4 marks and 28 disposals.
Round 4 and Cousins was at it again, this time tearing apart the Dogs to the tune of 31 disposal, 5 marks and 4 goals. Round 6 brought another BOG this time against the Swans with 28 disposals, 8 marks and another 3 goals. By this time, he was unstoppable and already the favourite for Charlie.
Next up was round 10 with 30 touches and 7 marks for his 4th BOG on the season. 24 posessions, 5 marks and another 3 goals against Carlton brought Cousins another BOG, his 5th. His 6th and last BOG coming in round 16 when he created a little history by being a completely unaminous BOG as every voter gave Cousins the 5 votes against Brisbane in round 16 as he tore them apart with 30 disposals, 3 marks and another 4 goals!
But apart from the standout performances it was his amazingly consistency that brought Cousins his 3rd win in this award and the coveted Brownlow. Only twice on the season did Cuz get under 20 touches, 19 against Sydney in round 17 and 16 against Geelong in round 21.
Cousins averaged 25.4 disposals per game but it was his marking that improved ten fold in 05. Cuz average 5.9 marks per game and his total for the season was 146 marks. His previous best was back in 1999 when he managed to grab 75 marks. Thats a huge jump and his power running and ability to take overhead marks has seen him turn into the complete midfielder.
Add to that his excellent goal kicking which saw him bag two hauls of 4 for the season and two hauls of 3. Cousins kicked a total of 24 on the season which was also his best total since his rookie year when he kicked 35 out of a forward pocket.
Cousins was simply awesome from first game to the last and thoroughly deserved his Brownlow win and he blew away the competition in this award finished almost 1000 votes ahead of his nearest rivals.
2006 loomed as a huge year for Cousins. The Eagles were now a genuine premiership threat, Cousins is in his prime, coming off a career year and a Brownlow year and all looked set for another huge season from the captain. But now he is surrounded by turmoil and no longer the leader of the club. Will Cousins bounce back and win his 4th BFWCPOTY award next season or will he fade without the captaincy he so clearly revels in?

I think it's probably in everyones best interest that Ben is stripped of this award.
