Ok so its finally here. Yeah im slack but with late voters as usual, the christmas period, working two jobs and New Years... well it took me a while but they are finally here. I wonder who the winner will be :D :D

Ok so that bit is a little bit obviously but i bet your all dying to know the top 5, the runner up, who got votes and who finished where. It's the ultimate fans award going, voted by the fans for the fans.

Now before we get started, lets look at a little history with all the years previous counts and winners way back in 2002 when this award kicked off...

2002! The year the messiah took over and we became a force to be reckoned with again, a finals side again, a side that at least nobody laughed at anymore. Gone was Judge. In was Woosha!

FINAL LEADERBOARD 2002

1. Ben Cousins - 942
2. Daniel Kerr - 892
3. David Wirrpunda - 596

21. Andrew Williams - 69
22. Drew Banfield - 65

32. Andrew McDougall - 2

The great Ben Cousins won the Inaugral WCBFPOTY, with the only challenge coming from second year star Daniel Kerr. Kerr put in a terrific sophomore season which saw him finish runner-up by a pretty slim margin. But it was Cuz's year as it always seems to be his year. Champion footballer, and probably soon to be known as the greatest Eagle of all time.

Kerr a worthy runner-up, he would later go onto to be runner-up to Cousins in a far more important award too ;) Familiar names filled the other top 5 spots. Wirrpunda, injury free, reminded us all how good he is. An unknown rookie... some kid Judd?? I dont know, he finished 4th anyway in his first year with the club. He will probably amount to nothing :D And Gardiner pre-knee emerged as one of the best ruckmen in the league.

From there though, times have certainly changed as the rest of the top 10, only one player remains at the club in Chad Fletcher. Jakovich, Peter Matera and McIntosh have all since retired but all three cemented their place in WCE history as all-time greats. Wilson rounds out the top 10 after a solid if unspectacular year. He would not last long however, still we loved the way he ran through many people.

Cox was 11th, starting to show signs of the player he would become and Fido in 12th as the ever present goal kicker. Wooden had a good year and Braun started to get back to his best. Hunter emerged but more of a utility than anything else.

Other names you will see that have since left the club or retired. Chambers, Collica, Green, Williams, Carroll, Haynes, Taylor, Merenda, Seirakowski and Humm. That certainly gives you an idea that the stars were already there for Woosha. Cuz, Kerr, Cox, Judd, Fletch, Embley, Wirra etc Its these aforementioned players that he has replaced for far better ones plus the development of guys like Glass, Hunter, Embley etc that has made Woosha such an excellent success.

Chambers or Butler? Green or Waters? Haynes or Morton? Taylor or Stenglein? Seirakowski or Hansen? Collica or B.Jones? Carroll or Seaby? Need I continue? Humm or Selwood? Thanks Woosh!

Other notables are Embley in 20th, still the raw frustrating player. Some wanted him gone, but we all knew he had talent. Thank god Woosh knew what to do! Glass in 23rd, still raw and learning the trade behind McIntosh and Doogs in last, all that talent, and well... I just dont know.

Still 2002 was a good year. Hail ye Cousins! Hail Woosha .... the Eagles were back on the map.

You have way too much spare time.

Many of us admire the way Jod has stuck to this task every year since the award's inception.

Jod has had to put up with late votes, tally the score, do the organising of the thread and has put in a lot of hard work into it.

His efforts should be appreciated.

Well done Jod, I personally think you have done a brilliant job. :thumbsu:

Another finals campaign and although the result was the same, you could feel the progress the team was making under Woosha. Ben Cousins though ever dominant as he went back to back.

FINAL LEADERBOARD 2003

1. Ben Cousins - 1,319
2. Chad Fletcher - 1,141
3. Andrew Embley - 981
4. Daniel Kerr - 905
5. Chris Judd - 829
6. Michael Gardiner - 806
7. Michael Braun - 689
8. David Wirrpunda - 595
9. Daniel Chick - 566
10. Rowan Jones - 532

12. Dean Cox - 318
13. Ashley Sampi - 259
14. Glen Jakovich - 256
15. Andrew McDougall - 222
16. Darren Glass - 207
17. David Haynes - 203
18. Drew Banfield - 140
19. Callum Chambers - 125
20. Ashley McIntosh - 111
21. Adam Hunter - 96
22. Phillip Read - 94
23. Travis Gaspar - 79
24. Josh Wooden - 59
25. David Sierakowski - 44
26. Michael Collica - 43
27. Kasey Green - 27
28. Trent Carroll - 17
29. Chad Morrison - 16
30. Brent Staker - 9
31. Damien Adkins - 6
32. Jeremy Humm - 2

Back-to-back for the energizer bunny in another great year for the captain as he lead from the front. But in truth it was what we expect from Ben Cousins, what we didnt expect was Chad Fletcher's rise to prominence and the coming of age of Andrew Embley.

Fletch finished second and earned an AA spot for the first time in his career and Embley finally realised his true potential and under Woosha became a dominating force who is now one of the best wingers in the game.

Kerr had another solid year finishing 4th and no second year blues for Judd as he finished 5th in an impressive year, better things to come was truly evident from the youngster. Gardiner finished 6th and should he ever stay injury free, probably would have won the award but alas, injury always seems to get in the way. He was absolutely dominant at times throughout the year and went AA.

Braun contined on with his good form as he slowly but surely is returning to his 99 form which saw him lose the B&F in a countback. Wirrpunda solid again with another top 10 finish. Daniel Chick wasted no time in settling into his new club with a great year which justified his move out west. R.Jones capped off his best year for the Eagles with a top 10 finish.

Matera led the goal kicking again and Cox contined to improve. Sampi finished 13th having his best year for the club. Jako was winding down to retirement and also signalled a changing of the guard at the club. McDougall easily had his best year but as we all know it didnt last.

Glass and Banners were solid, McIntosh played his last year and Read and Morrison came back from knee injuries to play bit parts. Morrison would be retained but Read would find a new home. Adkins arrived in a straight swap for Williams but would have little impact. Lynch was frozen out and didnt play all year in a strange move that many fans didnt understand.

In the end though it was a familiar tale with Captain Courageous leading from the front as always. The improvements were obvious though as the Eagles were clearly building for the future.

After this how can we believe anything else you've written your whole credibility has gone out the window.

Chris Judd deserves it every year, probably the best footballer we will see in our life time. If they sorted out this tagging bu!!**********, may be get Woosha to employ some of his own tactics, he could end up being the Michael Jordan of AFL.

Settle down champ.

Jod has been on these boards for many many years and has done a great job with the WCPOTY. His credibility is not in question here. These boards are here to discuss the team we love, not to start any rubbish with other posters.

I suggest you read the zero tolerance thread and try and not to evade the swear filter either, we have rules here we all abide.

2004 rolled around and Judd dominated. His previous two years were warm-ups as he took the competition by storm and won not only his first BFWCPOTY award but the less important Brownlow Medal too :D The Eagles though once again disappointed when September rolled around.

FINAL LEADERBOARD 2004

1. Chris Judd - 1,508
2. Daniel Kerr - 1,222
3. Chad Fletcher - 1,061
4. Ben Cousins - 889
5. Andrew Embley - 622
6. Michael Braun - 608
7. Dean Cox - 515
8. David Wirrpunda - 498
9. Darren Glass - 490
10. Phillip Matera - 411
11. Ashley Sampi - 322
12. Andrew McDougall - 314
13. Quinten Lynch - 313
14. Daniel Chick - 245
15. Chad Morrison - 192
15. Brent Staker - 192
17. Adam Hunter - 156
18. Michael Gardiner - 152
19. Beau Waters - 149
20. Mark Seaby - 127
21. Mark Nicoski - 113
22. Sam Butler - 83
23. Travis Gaspar - 78
24. Damien Adkins - 76
25. Brett Jones - 61
26. Drew Banfield - 60
27. Callum Chambers - 56
28. Trent Carroll - 53
29. Josh Wooden - 51
30. Adam Selwood - 38
31. Ashley Hansen - 32
32. Glen Jakovich - 24
33. Kasey Green - 10
34. Rowan Jones - 6
35. Jeremy Humm - 2

So Chris Judd finally knocked off the captain to take out the 04 award from runner-up Daniel Kerr. Chad Fletcher in his AA year :D finished on the podium and 2 time winner Cousins fought off injury to finish 4th in a solid if unspectacular year for the captain. Familiar names though once again held together the top 10.

Embley finished 5th and missed a few games along the way which suggested that he may have made a run at the top 3 if injury free. Little doubt was left now that the Eagles finally had the Embley we all knew he could be. GUN. Braun continued his revival and was now once again a pivotal cog in our midfield machine.

Cox emerged through Gardiner's injury troubles again and Wirrpunda an everpresent in the top 10. Glass, with McIntosh's retirement was now our key backman and he excelled having a wonderful year. Matera finally cracked the top 10 after finishing 12th and 11th the two previous years. Again he led our goal kicking.

Sampi had his best year for the club and McDougall was patchy at best but had a solid year. Lynch showed great character to come back after his shut-out year in 03 to finish strongly in 13th and Chick again proved to be a great recruit with another solid year.

Plenty of youngsters made their names in 04 though with Staker, Waters, Seaby, Nicoski and Butler all polling strongly. B.Jones, Selwood and Hansen getting votes too in what would be a sign of better things to come. Chambers, Carroll, Humm and Green would all play there last years in the blue and gold and the great Glen Jakovich would end his awesome career. We miss ya Jako.

R.Jones was largely disappointing and it would prove to be a tough couple of years for the utility/midfielder. The feel good story of the year though was probably Morrison's solid year after a horror run of injuries. He was outstanding in some games and finished 15th in a great comeback year. It would sadly prove to be in vain though as he was deemed surplus to our needs and shipped off to Collingwood. A fantastic servant of the club though.

But in the end the story was Juddamania. Could anybody stop him as he went AA, won the brownlow, the Eagles B&F and the BFWCPOTY knocking off Cousins in the process. Could he do it all again in 05?

jod23
24 Jan 2006, 03:15
And now onto 2005. I know, I know, the suspense must be killing everyone as the winner could be absolutely anyone :D

So what a year 2005 was, Woosha finally put it all together and we stormed the league and at one point we were 4 games clear on top of the ladder and looked certainties to take out the minor premiership. But a bit of dodgy form late on and Adelaide's fantastic run of wins saw us surrender top spot in the last round of the season on percentage.

But it didnt really matter as we secured two home finals with wins over Sydney and Adelaide to make the GF. But heartbreak followed as we lost by just 4 miserable bloody points :( I really thought we had it there when we led by 10 points midway through the last.... :(

Hopefully we can go one better next season.

Onto the voting. And strangely this season saw only 31 players get votes which is the lowest total in the 4 year history of the award.

T27th - Kasey Green - 1

Green managed just the 3 games for the year, one of course being his inclusion in the GF. But his solitary vote for the year came in round 20 when he collected 13 disposals, grabbed 7 marks and kicked 2 goals. Green sadly moved on at the end of the season to greener pastures as it got tougher and tougher for him to break into the side. He never lowered his colours in the GF either and for that we thank him. 54 games for the club and I wish him well.

jod23
24 Jan 2006, 03:20
T27th - Mitch Morton - 1

Morton's rookie year would be deemed a success as he broke into the first team to play 3 games late on in the season. He got his solitary vote in the horror loss to the Dogs in round 19. Watch out for Morton to figure more prominently in his sophomore season with Matera now retired.

jod23
24 Jan 2006, 03:24
T27th - Andrew McDougall - 1

What a disappointing year for Doogs. Injured early in the pre-season which put him behind the 8 ball for fitness but he never regained his form to justify a spot in the side. Next year you would think is make or break for him and he certainly has his chance with Smith again succumbing to injury. FF is there to be taken. He needs to step up and take it!

McDougall managed just 4 games for the season and his one vote came in the demolition over the Lions in round 16. Doogs had 13 touches, 6 marks and a goal.

jod23
24 Jan 2006, 03:28
T27th - Damien Adkins - 1

Last chance saloon is where you will find Adkins this season. With added pressure in the form of Armstrong and the return of Waters, perhaps Adkins can find a spot up forward with Matera's retirement. Either way, Adkins needs to find something in 06 to justify his spot on the list.

2005 saw him play just the 8 games and he didnt really have a huge impact garnering just the 1 vote from those 8 appearances in the blue and gold. His vote came in round 6 against Sydney. 15 possesions, 4 marks and kicked 1.1.

jod23
24 Jan 2006, 03:32
T27th - Jaymie Graham - 1

A breakthrough year for Graham as he finally found his way into the first team to play 2 games early in the season. I think he will play a bigger part for us next season and he looked ok in his two games in the big time. His 1 vote came in his debut against the Dockers where he despite only having the 4 touches, kicked 2 telling goals.

His form wouldnt hold though and was dropped after round 4. Bigger and better things to come you would think from Graham though in 06.

26th - Rowan Jones - 8

A fairly disappointing year for Jones. Being VC put a lot of pressure on his shoulders yet try as he might he couldnt break into the first team. No fault of his own either as week after week, he tore it up in WAFL. Regularly gathering more than 40 touches a game.

Eventually his chance came late in the season and he played well, particularly against the Dockers in round 20 with 22 touches, 6 marks and 2 goals. All his votes bar one came in that game, his other vote came the following week in the shocking loss to Geelong.

Jones though seems in limbo after just the 3 regular season games and one final against Adelaide. Be interesting to see how he goes in 2006 and if he can break back into the side and stay there.

jod23
25 Jan 2006, 01:26
25th - Mark Seaby - 16

Following his breakout year in 04, Seaby went on to consolidate his place in the side. Seebs played hard and made the backup ruck position his, as he played 16 games for the season and all three finals.

He never really had an outstanding game and therefore didnt match his vote total from 2004 but his consistency over the season saw him pick up small votes in many games. He kicked 13 goals in 16 regular season games which proved that he is pretty handy when moved forward.

With the verdict out on Gardiner and what position he will play next season there will certainly be some doubt on where Seaby will play and what kind of impact he will have next season. One thing is for sure, Seaby has worked his way into our best 22 and I expect bigger and better things from him in 06.

jod23
25 Jan 2006, 01:29
T23rd - Aaron Edwards - 24

In quite an extraordinary first quarter of AFL football, Edwards ran riot against Richmond in the first term and kicked two goals and had about 10 touches. He finished that game with 12 disposals, 8 marks and kicked 2.2. His form wouldnt hold though and he was very quiet for the remaining three periods and the next three games.

He was then dropped and he managed just the four games on the season. Of course all his 24 votes came from that first thrilling quarter against Richmond. Sadly I believe we axed him at the end of the year. I was a fan.

T23rd - Ashley Sampi - 24

Well what a dissapointing year from Sampi. Again his conditioning and weight were issues and he never really found any sort of from and it seemed like he did just enough from week to week to get another game.

The less said about his year the better IMO, he really needs to step up in 06 with Matera's retirement but im not convinced. He has all the talent he just needs to get his head straight, here's hoping he can do that in 06.

22nd - Sam Butler - 27

Butler has another solid year for WC managing to play in 13 games and the first final against the Swans. Despite being pretty solid all year as a back-up midfielder to the super-six, he only managed to poll votes in one game, all 27 votes coming in the round 15 win over the Roos.

Butler had 17 disposals, 7 marks and a goal in a strong performance. Butler will only get better in 06.

21st - Brett Jones - 50

Jones had a great year for WC in 2005. Rebounding strongly off half back he played in 21 games, missing just the round 22 clash at Subi against the Crows. He came back for the first final but injury struck him down and he lost the race against time to be fit for the GF.

In his 21 games for the club in 05 he got 10 or more disposals in 17 of them. An impressive effort for the youngster with his season high coming against the Dogs when he has 19 disposals and 6 marks. He had 17 touches twice in the season against Richmond and Sydney.

20th - Michael Gardiner - 92

Another injury troubled year for Gardy, making just 9 appearances in the regular season. He did manage to play the entire finals series but didnt have the impact he and the club would have wanted. They say it takes a year to get confidence back in the knee so maybe 06 is Gardiner's year.

He was tried at CHF/FF most of the year, with very little ruckwork with mixed results. Gardiner kicked 4 goals against St Kilda in round 8 and followed that up with 3 the following week against Collingwood but he never really settled in his role up forward.

Injury struck him down again but it wasnt his knee. So maybe with a full year behind him since the knee he can bounce back next season. What role he takes will be the main talking point though. Is he ready to go back into the ruck or will we persist with him up forward?

19th - Quinten Lynch - 152

Lynch played in every game of the year in the regular season and the first final against Sydney only to be ousted with poor form in the all important GF. Was it injury or was he dropped? Only Worsfold and Lynch really know the truth.

But what an up and down year for the big unit. Couldnt hold a mark, but played well in spells. You cant really have a poor year yet play every game, Lynch was just above average. To be fair to him, he was thrust forward all year and probably out of position and still managed to kick 31 goals for the year from FF. He may be better suited at CHB but he may again have to pinch hit up forward in 06 with Smith's injury troubles.

All in all, a fairly average year from the big man.

31 Jan 2006, 03:41
18th - Darren Glass - 155

Another great year from Glass but this year he missed out on the votes. Last year he was a top 10 finisher, and he arguably had a better year or at least on par with his 04 campaign. I think he missed votes though because in 04 he was a surprise packet, in 05 we expected it from him.

Still a great year from Glass playing in every single game including the finals. He now has 96 under his belt so round 4 should bring up his ton for the Eagles. He looks all the world to be a 200 game player for the club and an AA spot is my prediction before he is done.

17th - Brent Staker - 166

Played 19 games for WC and all three finals. Probably best remembered for me on the year for not picking up that ball and kicking a goal in the GF. Usually has fantastic hands too. Verdict is still out on Staker, he has all the tools to be a very good player but has yet to put it together. Not yet a 50 game player though so still has plenty of improvement in him.

Had a few quality games throughout the season, kicking 4 against Carlton and having 19 disposals, 8 marks and a goal against the Roos. But he got more votes in 04 than 05 but perhaps it's the Glass theory coming into play again.

Definitely in our best 22 but looking for more improvement from him in 06.

16th - Drew Banfield - 170

Turned back the clock a little in 05 and looked like the Banners of old. Solid as a rock in a back pocket or rebounding off half back and was a consistent performer all year.

Banfield played in every game for the year including the finals and had 10 or more disposals in all but 2. And in those 2 games he had 9 possesions. Consistency was the key for Banners. With 251 games under his belt, if he plays on in 07 he could make a run at the club's games played record. A true legend of the club.

I agree that Glass and Banners are far too low. We certainly took Glass for granted a little too much last year. I'm surprised B. Jones didn't finish a little higher also.

15th - Adam Selwood - 188

What a breakout year for Adam Selwood. At the start of the 05 season, Selwood had managed just 5 games for the club but 2005 saw him play 18 regular season games and 2 finals including the GF against Sydney. In the space of a year Selwood has turned himself into a vital cog in the WC midfield with his ability to blanket an opponent but also win the ball himself.

He played some great games through the year, most notably his effort against Brisbane in round 16. He took 5 marks and had 24 disposals. The bulk of his votes came from that game. He also played a fantastic game against Adelaide in the Prelim. Although these votes are only for the regular season. He had 26 touches, a goal and 6 marks in a dominant performance in the second most important game of the season. He proved in that game that he was a star in the making after being knocked out in round 22 by Riccuito, he pubicly said he wanted to take him on again and this time, he came out on top.

jod23
3 Feb 2006, 13:06
14th - Mark Nicoski - 193

Nicoski also had a major breakthrough in 05. Nicoski managed 11 games in 04 and that proved to be the platform for a major breakthrough in 05 playing in 18 regular season games and all 3 finals games.

Nicoski was superb off half back all year and even kicked his fair share of goals when switched to half forward. He kicked 2 goals against Adelaide, Hawthorn and Port during the year and kicked 12 goals for the season. Nicoski averaged 15.3 disposals per game and had three games where he topped 20 touches.

A huge future awaits Nicoski with his booming left peg. He will be a fixture of our HB line or even HF line for a very long time.

13th - Phillip Matera - 437

A strange year for Phillip which ended in the surprise retirement of the little champ. I was sad to see him go but he easily secured his status as a legend of the club after an amazing career.

Matera struggled early in the season for form and fitness and by round 9 he had only kicked 10 goals for the season. But we again saw the best of Matera from round 11 through 15 where he kicked 5, 4, 6, 3, 5 in consecutive weeks for 23 goals in 5 games. Matera got the glut of his votes in those rounds. Fitness and form would again plague him throughout the season and he eventually missed out on the GF which was obviously a huge disappointment for him, even more so now knowing that he would imminently retire.

But he once again led the Eagles in goal kicking for the season with 38 goals in 18 games. He leaves the club having played 179 games and kicked 389 goals to leave him second on our all time list. Sad to see injury cut his career short as he was well on his way to 200 games and 400 goals. Had he stayed fit, he may have given Suma's club goal scoring record a shake too.

I salute you Phil Matera, a legend of the club.

12th - Adam Hunter - 483

Adam Hunter turned his career up a few notches in 2005, becoming a solid KPP and pretty damn good CHB when he was previously known as just a bit part utility. He made CHB his own in 05 and had some outstanding games throughout the season, often going forward too to create havoc.

His 19 touches, 8 marks and 2 goals against the Lions in round 5 was a highlight as was the his BOG (for WC) in our round 21 loss to Geelong. 22 disposals and 6 marks in a losing team was good enough for that honour. Hunter was 1 of 10 Eagles to share among the 22 BOG's on offer for the season.

But it was Hunter's amazing consistency that was the trademark of his year. Hunter played in 20 regular season games and amazingly he only failed to poll votes in 3 of the 20 games he played in. An interesting 06 awaits, will he play at CHB where he was so good in 05 or will he be pushed forward?

11th - Ashley Hansen - 541

Lot's of players seemed to have breakout years in 05, Nicoski, B.Jones, Selwood but none had a greater impact than Hansen's remarkable break out year. 05 saw Hansen play in 17 regular season games and all three finals having only previously played in 6 games for the Eagles.

Hansen's first half of the season was sensational and he was a fixture in the top 5 of this award until he was eventually gobbled up late in the season as he had less effect of games and other players continued their consistency. He looked ok against Adelaide in round 1 but it was round 2 that saw Hansen become one of 10 players to grab a BOG for the season.

Hansen was irresistable against the Cats at Subiaco grabbing 11 marks, 20 disposals and kicking 4 goals in a true CHF display for a deserved BOG. Ash continued to poll strongly in the early part of the season with 3 goals against Freo, 20 touches, 7 marks and a goal against Brisbane and 3 goals and 7 marks against Hawthorn.

WCE fan's could hardly contain their excitement for what looked to be our first real CHF in the clubs history. Whilst his form didnt hold out all season the signs are certainly there, that we could have a real quality CHF on our hands for the first time in the clubs history. The jury is of course still well and truly out and having only played 26 games, he has a lot of work to do but he kicked 26 goals on the season and particularly early in the year, really looked the real deal.

2006 will certainly give us more answers but im backing him to become a star player of the competition. Let's hope im right and a top 10 finish in this award could be on the cards for Hansen in 06.

10th - Daniel Chick - 569

A second top 10 finish in three years with the Eagles for Chicky, rounding out another solid year from the wily veteran. Chick was one of only 10 Eagles to recieve a BOG, that honour coming in round 5 against the Lions as he kicked 3 goals to go with 21 touches and 5 marks.

But Chick was solid all year picking up votes in a lot of games, funnily enough he kicked another 3 against the Lions in the second time we faced them in the season and again picking up solid votes in that game. Whether it was rebounding off half back, kicking goals up forward or blanketing a dangerous opposition player, Chick was good value all year. Expect more again in 06.

13 Feb 2006, 00:53
9th - Andrew Embley - 682

Andrew Embley was nothing short of sensational in 2005 as his reputation as a star of the competition continues to grow. An AA spot was probably on the cards until he went down in round 14 and missed 7 weeks. Embley returned for round 22 and all three finals.

Through rounds 1 to 13, Embley was averaging 22 disposals per game, 6.46 marks per game and 1.46 goals per game. He was on fire. Including a BOG performance against Melbourne in round 13 when he kicked 3 goals to go with 35 touches.

Since his breakout year in 03 where he finished 3rd, Embers has been a superstar, finishing 5th in last years count despite missing 6 games and now again he finishes top 10 despite missing a big chunk of the season. Embley managed almost 700 votes in just 15 games so if he stays injury free in 06 he has to be one of the favourites to take out this award next season.

8th - Tyson Stenglein - 684

Stenglein arrived at the start of the year from the Crows and he seamlessly slipped into our dominate midfield and became a vital cog as the season wore on. Turning out to be a masterstroke in recruiting as Stenglein added toughness and a defensive side to our midfield which would prove valuble.

He played in 19 regular season games and all three finals and had some outstanding but never quite good enough to earn a BOG. Stinger collected 27 disposals, 10 marks and a goal against Brisbane in round 5. Had 25 touches, 12 marks and a goal against Carlton in round 14 and was very good against the Dockers in round 20 with 2 goals and 25 possesions.

IMO, Stenglein was a major reason why we turned into legitimate title contenders this season. With his defensive capabilities and marking skills in midfield, he realeased Cousins and Judd and co to wreak havoc running forward. Very important to our tilt at a flag in 2006.

7th - Michael Braun - 796

Isnt it great to see Brauny back to his best with his third top 10 finish in a row. Another solid and consistently brilliant year from the gutsy little midfielder and is extremely important to our midfield setup as the linkman and tireless runner through the middle of the park.

But alas, the year would end in heartbreak for Braun as he played every single regular season game the two finals leading up to the GF but missed out through injury after going down very early against Adelaide in the Pre-lim. Heartbreaking for Brauny and for the club who sorely missed him. He certainly would have made a difference in the biggest game of the season.

Braun had some stormers throughout the year though collecting 34 disposals and 7 marks against the Dogs in round 4 and 26 touches and 2 goals against Port Adelaide in round 10. Braun went on to average 22 disposals per game for WC in 2005 in a stellar season.

Another great year from the prolific ball winner, Fletch was outstanding in 05 and has now finished in the top 10 in every year of the BFWCPOTY including a runner-up spot in 03.

Fletcher played in every regular season game and all three finals and managed 3 BOG's during the regular season. His first coming in round 7 against Hawthorn, he had 32 disposals, 8 marks and a goal. He backed that up the following week in round 8 with another BOG performance against St Kilda where he ran rampant with 31 touches and 2 goals.

Fletch wasnt done there as he scored a hattrick of BOG's as he followed that up again in round 9 with another BOG performance, this time against Collingwood. Fletcher collected 25 possessions, 7 marks and kicked 3 telling goals.

5th - Daniel Kerr - 1,161

Another fantastic year in the career of Daniel Kerr which resulted in a surprising runner-up in the brownlow and another top 5 spot in the BFWCPOTY. In all four years of the competition Kerr has finished in the top 5 of this award and has been runner-up twice in 04 and 02.

A super year from Kerr though which saw him grab 2 BOG's over the season, coming in rounds 12 and 20. Round 12 saw Kerr collect 26 possesions against Essendon to earn BOG honours but his best games came in the second derby of the year where he destroyed the Dockers to the tune of 34 disposals and a goal.

All this and Kerr missed 3 games through injury so he perhaps could have finished higher than 5th. Expect DK to be a major challenger for this award next season as he tries to go one better than his runner-up spots in 02 and 04.

4th - David Wirrpunda - 1,363

Wirrpunda was at his consistent, rebounding best in 05 playing in 17 games and the three finals. His 4th place finish is his best since finishing 3rd in 2002 but every year of the award Wirra has found himself in the top 10. Playing in just 17 games suggests he could have finished higher had he played all 22 games.

Wirrpunda had 2 BOG's on the season, his first coming in round 15 against North where he had 25 touches and 8 marks. He also was BOG for the Eagles in our loss to Adelaide in the final round of the season. Wirra had 32 disposals and 8 marks.

If Wirrpunda stays healthy, he should play his 150th in round 3 in the coming season, a stalwart of the club, with his dashing runs and dazzling skills I wouldnt count him out as a major contender for the award next season.

T2nd - Chris Judd - 1,497

Backing up from his Brownlow year in 04, many suspected it to be a hangover year and it certainly looked that way early in the season as Judd struggled to find his absolute best form. But as the season rolled on, Judd got better and better and stormed up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for second spot.

Along the way Judd racked up 3 BOG's, the first coming in round 3 against the Dockers amassing 31 disposals, 2 marks and a goal. He was also outstanding in the following round with 36 touches, 7 marks and 2 goals but missed out narrowly on BOG honours.

His second BOG came in round 11 v Richmond as he tore them apart to the tune of 23 disposals, 11 marks and 3 goals. His last BOG came in round 19 v the Dogs where he had 26 touches and 2 goals.

Judd though had his up's and down's and in the end narrowly missed out on AA selection and his inconsistent form also saw him relinquish his reign as BFWCPOTY. An interesting year ahead for Judd though as the brownlow win is now well and truly behind him and with a possible captains role in 06 he could be in for a huge year or he may struggle with the weight of expectation. I for one cant wait to find out.

T2nd - Dean Cox - 1,497

What a year from the bigman. Stamping his claim as the premier ruckman in the competition and going AA for the first time in his career. Cox was simply outstanding all season and this is reflected as he ties with Chris Judd for the runner-up spot in the BFWCPOTY award.

Coxy didnt miss a game all season playing all 22 regular season games and the 3 finals. He managed 2 BOG's on the season with his first coming in round 17 when he played a lone hand in our loss to Sydney kicking 4 goals, with 12 disposals and 14 HO's. He backed that up the following week to register back to back BOG's in a win over Hawthorn. Cox kicked another 2 goals to go with 18 touches, 6 marks and 23 HO's.

What more can be said about Coxy though, he elevated his game to become the unquestioned number 1 ruckman, not just at the club but in the country. He had 409 disposals on the season, and his prolific ball winning ability for a ruckman gave our midfield a whole new dimension. His ability to go forward and take marks and kick goals also gave us a different look. He kicked 22 on the season which is more than handy for a ruckman.

But it was his excellent ruckwork and link up play through the middle of the ground that took our midfield to another level and we simply blew some teams away throughout the year thanks to Coxy's dominance. A definite favourite for the award next season.

Very unlikely. Anyone taking bets on first place?
