Quick one, as I was only there for 30 mins, as i had a appointment to go to

- Mitch Morton sure has stacked on the KGS, amazing amount since I last saw him train, must of added 5kg+ and might play a role in 2006 me thinks

- Gaspar is another one who has added alot of muscle and looks to be in good form trainin as a forward, Might play as a third tall forward with him and Hunter swappin around from the looks of it

- Selwood and Hurn were just joggin around the oval, not doing much in order to ensure not to overdo themselves cos of OP

- Lynch and Seaby are back in full training, both look the same although Seabs looks to have put on a bit of muscle. Waters and Wirra look close to full training, Waters looks in great nick and really never shuts up during training

- Staker was training with the midfield, damn he is fast, cant appreciate it till you see him outrun Judd, imagine him as a tall winger, he wud cause alot of headaches

- Embley was training with the forward group today and looks like he will spend some time there with Judd during the year

- Judd Cox and Fletcher look in great touch, Cousins is doing his typical modified training he has been doin for 3 years now

- Braun is slowly gettin back into it, just joggin around the boundary

- Smith played on Glass and beat him again like usual but spent quite a bit of time running around too.

- Doogs was like trainin by himself, very odd, almost as if he was preparing to play in a defensive role, strange I thought but he is in awesome physical condition, best condition he has ever been in for sure, GET A HAIRCUT DOOGS TOO YOU LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE TOOL

- Wiz Cup will be interesting to watch McKinley and Morton contend for forward pocket, theres a chance both might play there on opposite sides next year, both are in excellent form

- Hansen was the standout for mine along with Mitch and McKinley, Ash has had his first ever pre season and has added a yard or two of pace and looks to be practicing more in outpositioning his opponents and doing a bit of pack marking.

Thats about it. Hansen looked damn good, I can see the pre season is really allowing him to become a better player, I think its his first ever and you can see the improvement from gettin it under his belt. Morton stacking on the KGs throws another hat into the ring for forward pocket, hard to split him and McKinley atm, from the looks of Sampi and others, I cant see Sampi playin any role in 2006. Gaspar looks good as a forward, hopefully we use him as the third tall, he wud cause the third tall defender alot of problems cos he is just so damn big and strong really. From what I have seen id line them up as follows IMO

FB: Wirrpunda Glass Chick
CHB: Jones Hunter Nicoski
C: Fletcher Judd Cousins
CHF: Gaspar Hansen Embley
FF: Morton Smith McKinley
C: Cox Kerr Stenglein
I/C Braun Selwood Seaby Staker
EMG Waters Banners Gardiner

Poor Banners :(, Im still worried about Selwood might be best to rest him till round 5 and then play him, wait till he gets his body right maybe, alot of depth there, we can afford to rest him

Nice report Embers.

On Sampi, he will play a role this year. We dont have another crumber. McKinley is more of a mark type, Morton is abit of both but doesnt have the pace like Sampi.

Theres alot of different opinions on Sampi atm, Morton is a bit of both which is why I think he will become the main crumber, he is such a fine kick and the fact he was concussed three times last year shows that he isnt afraid to go in hard for the ball. Phil was never much of a crumber of the ball anyway for us, I think crumbing in a sesne is no longer a big part of football, apart from Milne there is no other real crumbing forward in the game most are small marking men, Morton wud be handy to play in the midfield too, Id say Morton Judd and Embley wud swap around while McKinley stays planted in the forward line

Sampi just doesnt look to be improving atm, I dont see any passion to succeed or prove doubters wrong, I see that in McDougall and in Lynch and also saw it in Embley when he turned it around but I cant see Samps doing it.

P.S Woops I forgot about Chicky, He was lookin good, another one who is finally havin a injury free pre season hence improving, damn im a idiot

do you post on EFH ?

we have kind of a training jounal going and would apreciate your imput (if you dont already post there)

very much agree about Hanson, really looks to have improved a huge amount

it seems as if all of our long term injuries are finally comming to an end and we may be able to field a completly fit team with all 44 to choose from come R1

I posted there ages ago but dont anymore, ive forgotten my password anyway, accounts probably been deleted, you can copy and paste it if ya like to there

Hansen improvement really seems to have come over the past month, in the scratch match I saw Graham gave him a bath but I guess it just wasnt his day (although he did play on the losing side) Hansen stood out today, I was surprised at just how fast he looked, hopefully if he gets use to using his body a bit more he can stay closer to goal.

Most exciting thing is the right people are takin the next step really, I guess they know they failed the other boys last year and are puttin in the extra effort

Anyway what do people think of Staker as a midfielder???

barring injury Sampi will play 22 games IMO and will do very well. He plays better when Phils not there, so he can play FB rather than a HFF. Sampi is an extremely underated player, he is quite exceptional at he 1%'s, chasing, tackling, sheparding etc. Thats why Woosha continues to pick him, despite a few Sampi doubters on here that just measure his worth to the team by goals kicked. And he is not too far off doing that, he was able to get more than enough shots at goal last year, but his accuracy let him down, but I'm sure that will improve this year. Another plus for Sampi is he gets a lot of direct goal assists. Every team needs a genuine crumber in the forward line. Sampi is easily our best at that, even discounting his great 1%'ers. He has immense natural talent and may not be doing too well in his pre-season ATM as he is recovering from an injury.

Also in the NAB cup, I would love to see, Staker and Doogs have a go on the wings, now obviously it may not work, but if they were able to hold their own defensively, then the gamble could easily pay off due to their overhead ability.

McDougall shud give defence a crack IMO, his shoulders arnt good enough for markin but might be for spoiling give him CHB I say and see what happens, Staker is the midfield type, damn hes lightning, MCDougall wudnt be quick enough.

I guess Sampi does tackle alot but in saying that maybe we can just throw Chick up forward, he tackles well but is also able to kick goals and provides more flexibility, If Sampi does play Morton and McKinley are gonna find themselves in a huge battle for the other forward role, dont know who I would choose personally.....

No place for Cousins in your lineup "Embers" ? Do you think that he won't be fit for the preseason, or that the club might rest him ?

I completly agree with you about Staker and McDougall. Give them a crack on the wing and in defence respectivly, at least for a short time in the NAB cup. It's not as though we're not in a position to gamble.

Cousins modified training pretty much involves alot of running and alot less physical stuff, its something he does to protect his back which he has problems with, hes been doin it for 2-3 years now so it really doesnt mean much

Braun at full strength, well he starts trainin in 2 weeks time, but he is trying to ease himself into it, theres talk of playin him on the bench and giving a youngster like Nicoski or maybe even playin Fletcher a crack playin on a wing for a month, Braun wudnt be back to his best till Round 5-6 but Braun has amazing endurance so its hard to put a time frame on how long it will take him to be at full strength.

His hamstring isn't still playing up, is it?

just a bit curious to know how Matt Rosa has been doing in recent training sessions, any chance of seeing more of him in 2006??? although we've got such a great team at the moment it's not looking likely, but just like to know how he's going anyway??

From the sessions I have seen, he has looked really good. Probly the best of the 2004 draftees IMO. Has added abit of weight and I think could play upwards of 10 games.

What are the thoughts, regarding M. Morton and Rosa, on who is likely to carve out a more distinguished/so called "better" career of the pair?

Both are great mates, similar types of players and hungry to succeed at the highest level...

just curious...

I would tend to disagree, from what ive seen at training his disposal by foot is not the best but his fitness is really exceptional,

edit: looking at the 03 draft by mistake :D

I would probly back Morton because he is that little bit more special. Mitch is an awesome kick and is very versatile. Rosa is more of an accumulator and wont ever rip a game open IMO.

As Lynchie says, Matt has some areas of his game he can work on. His kicking and pace need to improve for him to become a top liner. Neither of them are shocking but you need that bit more at AFL level. He finds alot of the footy and is a very handy height at 189cm.
