hes pretty mobile and is a huge man. he will do well for the saints and relieve the pressure off the ruckmen which may enable kosi to stay up forward and kick bags
wat do u think of him

IIRC, Michael Rix was named VFL player of the year, and won the B&F at Coburg. I don't recall reading how many goals he kicked, so might not be so prolific, however he has played much of his earlier career in forwards.

Acklan for me is a better foward, pulls down big grabs etc.
Would be good If we can get Rix and Kosi rotating through the ruck and then heading foward.

Rix wouldn't have kicked many goals as he played a fair bit in the backline, taking a few big scalps (including keeping Sav Rocca goal-less)

How old is he 24, and he is what 200 cms?

He was the VFL ruckman of the year.
I was keen for us to take a punt on Eames but I'm more than happy with Rix. He doesn't have the physical presence of the former Scorpions ruckman who was just a monster but he'll be a lot more mobile.
It's an area we needed to strengthen and we've done well.

He's a big unit.
I think we should rotate him and ackland through the ruck and let kosi do what he wants basically. Kosi's not a ruckman and he's injury prone so he's gonna injure himself goin up in the ruck against the bigger blokes

Which of the new draftees is the skinny kid in the red singlet behind Rix?
It's interesting you say that Kosi_23 because I don't think Kosi is any more likely to get injured in the ruck than he is at centre half forward or centre half back, positions often referred to as the most difficult on the ground.
I just think he gives us something in the ruck that no other ruckman in the league can compete with. A combination of athleticism, mobility, endurance and fantastic overhead marking.
There's no reason why he can't drift forward and cause massive headaches for the opposition.
In any case I'm delighted with the selection of Michael Rix. We badly needed some ruck depth and now with Ackland, Brooks, Blake and Kosi we are finally starting to get that. I can't wait to see how Rix goes in the Wizard Cup.

Maybe its Sam Gilbert (19)

Put Kosi on a wing, let him run forward and kick goals, let him run back and help out in defence

GT said at the AGM this morning that Rix will definately play senior footy at some stage as a ruckman/defender. Also said Gilbert will play AFL, which is suprising considering his size, and that Watts will play forward in the NAB Cup.

Rix would slot into the ruck nicely, if Ackland keeps improving they'll be a good rotating combo.

Rix is overated, not tall enough to ruck, too slow, cant hold a mark and cant kick.
Is a very good handball though, so would be in the saints top 22

VFL must be of a very low standard then if he won the B&F.
Keep your trolling for the general forum, it is unwelcolme on this board.

stevio 999, possibly a richmond 5th column, or maybe another fellow Hawk supporter who are dreading another Shane Tuck scenario.........we've also had the Roos snap up D.Whyman........with Rixy, Whyman is another rookie invested in, but no patience or discretion, or the right balance of both have allowed these 2 thru the Glenferrie net. I'm died in the wool HAWK, but with a Saint lovin' daughter, and I'm rapt for Rixy and the Sainters. "The ideal".....Rixy voted best on the ground in a game, that the Hawks beat you blokes by one point..........I reckon you blokes have done real well with pickin up Fergus Watts too........No. 14 in the 2003 draft...197cm and 86kg+ , turning 21 in Sept. 2006... the summary of him back then was.."outstanding contested mark " just not good overhead, but flamin "outstanding" !!
ALL THE BEST FOR 2006, except for July the 1st, down by a point.....

Not only can the bloke go on the paddock, but goes pretty well off it as well.
Spotted him at the Portsea pub with an abundance of hot women floating around him.
I heard that he has also done a bit of runway work as well.

Deserves his chance. Improved a lot when he came to Box Hill from Port Melb. When he first came he had little influence around the ground and struggled to mark - this is probably one of his strengths now.
I saw a lot of him at Box Hill. Big unit, moves well, decent kick, die hard worker. He'll do the job.
Best of luck to He-Man.

Apparently went alright in the intra-club match.
Flogged all of Ackland/Blake/Brooks in the ruck, but didn't contribute that much around the ground. Brought it down for the crumbers, but not much more. Got about 10 possessions, a couple of alright marks, wheras Ackland and Blake both got 15+ disposals, a fair few marks, tackles, ran with it etc..
So it sounds like he's a big improvement on Knoballs, but not in our best 22 yet.

Given your lack of knowledge on your own team and players . . . don't be offended if I don't rate your opinions very highly. :)

I noticed in the photos that Rix was able to get up very high, and appeared to be able to jump two feet higher than Ackland at least on one occasion.
This is promising, especially so against the taller rucks who seem to rely more on their extra height and reach than their leap.
The pundits that commented on the intraclub seemed happy with Rix's tapwork too, that he won or at least broke even with Ackland in the ruck.
He will be out to prove himself in the NAB Cup, and I am looking forward to seeing what he has to offer.
