Groin injury to Katich, Jaques set to open tomorrow. Jaques and Clarke, or Jaques and Marto?

I wouldn't discard Haddin as an opening possibility either. Also, the number of times that Ponting has gone out to bat in the first over, I don't see why he couldn't open as well.

A few runs to Jaques could see Katich out of the side here. I know he has made some runs lately, but the selectors are keen on Jaques and want to give him every chance before the World Cup.

Astonishing that Hayden still can't get a ODI game. His ODI career appears over.

Im taking the day off tomorrow just to see jaquesy bat.

As good a bloke Katich is off the field, its good to see a more entertaining player take his spot.

Rotation is alive and well.

How often does a player have a "groin strain", "back strain", "hamstring strain" only to miss one or two games and come back completely unaffected.

during the srilanka vs Australia game me and my mates were apealing every ball when katich was batting...so boring, ******** technique, his game doesnt suit one day cricket

;) not that we would let the fact that he ditched our proud state cloud our opinions;)

I never liked him when he was playing for WA. Just something about him use to get under my skin.

If it wasn't for Martyn's inept running between the wickets and calling, Katich would've probably gone on and made a ton.

Don't forget Hayden is out ill from the QLD team at the moment.That may explain why he wasn't called up.

Good to see Jaques get a go as I reckon he is a better choice than Katich any way with WC in mind. I would like to see the following batting line-up:

1. Jaques
2. Martyn / Clarke
3. Ponting
4. Clarke / Martyn
5. Symonds
6. Hussey
7. Haddin (where Gilly will slot into ... perhaps)

what exactly? astute tactician or excellent fieldsman or reliable opening bat, swampy was awesome for australia in one dayers back when the style of one day cricket was different ie 0/45 off 15 get to a winning score of 220

and by the way does anyone else see the similarity between katos and jacques technique anyway?

The only similarity is their stance for lefties - after that it ends. ie. Jaques has the ability to play unorthodox shots needed for ODI's, whereas that is not natural for Katich.

their slow batting rate.

marsh = good fielder etc
katich = token

i remember those days that 220 was a good score. i was so bored then :(
