I reckon the best band name ever has to be Joy Division.
It's taken from a novel called The House Of Dolls, written by Karol Cetinsky. The "joy division" refers to the line of huts in which the young women in concentration camps were forced to prostitute themselves to nazi officers on leave.
Ironic name, given its source and the band's style of music!
Just interested in people's favourite band names.

Joy Divisons' name caused alot of controversy when the band was active. Many critics accused the band of having Nazi sympathies just because of the name and its connotations with Concentration Camps and Genocide, etc etc.
This accusation was of course rubbish. Anybody who knows and loves their music (like I do) will quickly realise their songs are cerebral and poetic and concerned with the human condition.
definitely not about Nazis, Gas Chambers or any kind of glorification of any of that stuff.

Jim Thirwell used to have this music project back in the 80s, and released his records under names like Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel, You've Got Foetus On Your Breath, Foetus Inc., Foetus Uber Alles, etc. etc. You get the picture. Incidentally, if you ever wondered where that bloke from Nine Inch Nails "borrowed" a lot of his musical ideas from, just have a listen to some of Thirwell's music.

Don't forget the odd sense of humour. Like one of the lyrics (if I remember correctly) in the song "Decades" which goes "Here are the young men, a weight on their shoulders". Apparently Curtis wrote it in reference to the Joy Division fans who would wear those heavy German military coats to their gigs.

I think N'SYNC is a fantastic name :D
On a serious note, Team Jedi and Something For Kate are cool names, oh and i like Counting Crows & Marcy Playground. All very cool.
