If East Point don't win the flag this year Mobb then we just might see a third team join them until they do win one.... Most likely be East/Point/Lakers in 2008!!

The amount of mergers rumoured over the years has been amazing, what about a representative carnival midyear made up of six combined teams. Teams could be:
Ballarat and Redan, (Ballarat Lions)
Sebas and lakers, (Sebastapol Lakers)
East Point already are one, (who are they kangaroos)
Bacchus Marsh Darley, (Bacchus Marsh Devils)
Melton Melton South, (Melton Panthers)
Sunbury can go alone to as they are a 1 team town as it is. (Sunbury Lions)
Now there is a concept!!!

Heard on the Grapevine today, that Darren Fletcher will most likely go back to Skipton rather then play at East/Point this season. Too busy with work, and isnt able to give 100 percent. Very gifted footballer!

No one from Bacchus Marsh would get a game in that side hence it would still be the Darley Devils. Ballarat & Redan would be unstoppable. Sebas & lakers would share a spoon & east fall short again. Melton would punch teh shit out of each before getting out of the rooms and sunbury would be ok.
Silly idea premiership but an east vs west concept would be better. That would be bragging rights.

Hope Wardy doesn't read this as the dollar signs will be going through his head of a possible match between East & West!!! $15 Entry, Players to buy there own jumpers, shorts & socks. A reserves & under 18's game aswell.. Even netball in all grades!!! Wow!! The possibilities wardy! Would nearlly cap of a better day than the lightning premiership!!!

Yeah an East Vs West game has the promise of being very very interesting and good. definitely agree with Vineyard the bragging rights would be very impressive. the lightening prem i think is an outdated idea and i believe that this is shown in how the clubs approach it...putting in their 2nds and under 18s players.

Parker to Melton South is a big bonus for them, I thought that was probably the main area that they lacked some real top end quality and he certainly is that. Must have hurt their club all those years seeing their own player doing so well at another club.

I think the problem is that all the players invovled in the BFL have the premiership as the main goal. Who cares about Interleague, east v west and etc. In my opinion, many players use these types of things to add to the resume and bump their $ value up.
I always have a laugh when a guy turns up to his first session with a prospective club wearing an Interleague jumper.
Bottom Line: Nobody really cares about anything other than the silverware at the end of the season.

It's not really irrelevant when a club has struggled to find the money to pay their ordinary players over the past few years, yet when they sign Mcleod, Scoble, Mcmahon, Parker Obst etc, they promise the world.
I would not be wanting to wait until the years end to be paid if I was one of these blokes, because it wont be there. Looks like the locals get shafted again!

I like the way your have rated them from worst to best in that post.
McLeod won't have to worry about being paid, he will be in the 2's by midseason and will stay there, unless he sucks the right people off again, then he will only get the minimum wage.
Scoble won't need to worry either. I predict a season ending injury before the halfway point of the season to save himself the embarrassment of having to drop himself.
McMahon certainly won't stick around unless he is kept a Cash Money Millionaire all year long.

I think South has seen the error of paying ordinary players large amounts under the Sproule regime. They finsihed with 3 wins last year and needed the Parkers and McMahon's to turn the club around. Future looks good at South which I think syas alot about Parker and Chapman.

It is a serious risk to anyone's credibility to class Cameron McLeod as quality. The guy has limited intelligence, poor decision making, skills that are flaky at best, is easily exposed and conviniently gets injured everytime the pressure gets a bit too much for him.

Oh ... but he talks a lot, tries hard and is a nice guy from what I hear. I guess that outweighs his negatives and that is why is was a regular senior player at Darley.

Amazing isn't it. Unbelievable that a footballer who I would guess has never finished top 10 in his club's B&F could be selected in the Interleague squad almost every year. Wasn't he working for the BFL at one stage?

Interleague means nothing, I can name at least 10 players off the top of my head that get asked to play every year before the squad is even announced. And they all say no so just cos he played interleague does not mean he can play. It means all the players above him didnt want to waste there time about 3 years ago they had something like 26 players pull out is that the year he played.

You blokes come up with some classic comments with those melton south guys. :thumbsu:
Your right FF, interleague selections are extremely debatable and certainly not the be all in footy cred to anyone. Mcleod and Scoble are solid, good enough to play at Melton South, mcmahon and parker are as good as anyone in their positions. Where Melton South have stuffed up and why they have probably struggled as a club over the years is they have lost good players for whatever reason and now had to recruit their locals back, which cant be ideal for any club.
How do locals get shafted when these guys are actually locals at Melton South.
Talking to my melton mate cockroach on the weekend, despite player losses they are still confident they will play finals.

Agree with that. Dion Miles is a proven disgraceful coach. Seen him go all purple in the face and give his players an almighty verbal barage at Darley one day. He really embarrassed himself and the East Point Club.
If they are to improve it will be from their recruits not the coach. Its April and they are still doing beep tests I hear.

They will definetely improve, but the problem they face is that the other teams down the bottom last year will as well. South will be big improvers, and I think sebas will be better. Not sure where the Lakers are at, they may be the easy beats this year.
They seem fairly confident at Cobra land that they will improve a lot. So 4-5 wins may be realistic, depending on the oppositions progress or decline (decline meaning melton, and possibly darley).

I am with you LFC, without seeing a game played yet you would think that the Lakers may be found wanting, Sebas now have a key fwd in their coach and some quality onballers, that will help them improve and win more games.
Please boys, physical strength is not about threatening people or sniping people, it is about playing hard tough footy, tackling, discipline, when it counts on the big occasion. From what I have seen, Melton, East and Redan are the only sides to have that right of claim in the present environment.

The boys at the marsh are definitely looking at winning more games than losing this year. they are all very confident down there that they may surprise a few teams this year. I dont agree with the 2 darley boys (LFC and Chum) that Dion is a disgraceful coach. all down at the marsh seem to have taken a shine to him and he seems to look the goods with how he has turned the boys around, mentally and physically, since last year. whether it shows on the field or not we'll have to wait untill a few rounds in.

The Devils had a good hit out last night at Darley park against Bell Park.
Looked really impresive with the run and look to be a well drilled unit this year under the new coach. Darley ended up winning by about 3 goals, A couple of new guys had a run and looked really handy. Marcus Hastings and Brad Glass i think his name was.
When is that guy they call Rissotto gona play again?

Well I can say that your completely wrong and the guys have touched the footy every training session.
Why make up these kind of lies?? Really school holidays finished last week didn't they???
From my humble opinion Dion has been great and leaves no stone unturned as far as fitness preparation and game day info is concerned.
I think we will surprise a few people this year. Hopefully our easy beats of the passed few years will give some sides some real headaches.

The Devils had a good hit out last night at Darley park against Bell Park.
Looked really impresive with the run and look to be a well drilled unit this year under the new coach. Darley ended up winning by about 3 goals, A couple of new guys had a run and looked really handy. Marcus Hastings and Brad Glass i think his name was.
saw some of that game looked pretty steady the devils
interesting to see Deckett as full foward structure the last hit out with him as a key focus up forward yet he has not lodged a clearence ???
whats the go there noddy

Clearance done Saturday, the big lad faces two of his many ex clubs in the first 2 rounds.

I think they've actually given up on clearing Deckert. Rumour has it that an extra staff member had to be employed just to cope with the seven or eight clearances that they receive from Deckert every season.

Who is Deckert, what type of player, does he go good, is this another for Darley, sounds like they have made some really good signings in the end, what club or league was he playing at?
Preparations for all sides completed, finally boys the season is starting for many of you, bet you are all excited, good luck to all of you this year.
For me, with no games played since the grand final, nothing has made me change my mind from East and Redan dictating terms again this season.
Good luck to everyone chasing them though, hopefully it is a very even and competitive year for all 10 teams.:thumbsu:

Big Shaun has had a chequered past and was recently a premiership player in Torquay's flag last year. Can play either end and adds some size & aggression to the young devils. Played juniors at the club and is back committed to playing good footy.
Round 1 is now upon us.
all those posts over the preseason about who is good/bad will now be found out.
who play's who this week?
I just hope that East dont win it.
Darley vs Melton south first up must be a rod ward special to add spice to the competition.

Were Sunbury worried last year when they lost 3 times to Darley? Or were Darley just better?
Darley made the Prelim - Sunbury didn't. End of the day Darley were better. But if you think you will get the same result this year you may be in for a bit of shock. Any thruth that 8 of your top 10 goal kickers from last year have left?

8 out of 10 would probably be close, but 6 I can think of say Scoble, McMahon, McCabe, Parker, Cox, Cannard. Don't think any of the others that left would have been in top 10 goal kickers.
No one is thinking it will be the same result this year against the lions, we know we are up against it. But we thought the same thing this time last year.

End of the day LFC and KA, those results are in the bag, for anyone to beat Sunbury at Sunbury in a final is a terrific result and must prove that in 2006 Darley were a better side than the 2006 Sunbury.
There have been plenty of sides at the start of each year that noone rates because they lack so called name players that end up being very good teams because the lesser known ones step up. Look at East and Ballarat last year, Darley may have the core talent with miller and cape to re establish themselves as one of those teams this year.
i cant believe some of you blokes still refuse to rate east point. i think they did well lastr year considering it wall the first finals appearence for more then half the player let alone grand final.
east have got country guns mark phelps and grant wilson to free up guys like xavier bourke and adam symes to set play up from half back
last yrs grand final footy record rated easts mid field 9.5 of 10 forward line 9.5 and with this backline expect east to go 1 more this yr.

I recall a few years back LFC that the Marsh and Darley were mighty close to merging, and the ones who knocked it back were the Marsh?
Darley were willing to sell out to get access to Maddingley Park and attempt to launch an assault on the BFL. Possibly a missed opportunity???
Good luck to East for taking the plunge and finally reaping the rewards.:thumbsu:

They have not reaped anything yet, the reward is a flag. Can't seem to remember them winning one!
Darley-Marsh merge was hogwash, some voted to, others didnt, in the end the others won.
Would have been one mighty side though, with plenty of green to flash around.
Thats something the Marsh could have only hoped for..Maybe at leatse the joke of a club could win more then two games a year... Not a chance Darley will ever merge.

Let's turn it around and talk about some things that the Marsh have done that Darley haven't ...
I guess the big one that sticks out for me happened during the late 90's when Bacchus Marsh purchased themselves an untried coach and purchased themselves an entire team. While moderately successful in reaching a grand final, all their hired guns and mercenaries left the club financially broken and strapped for talent when they all realised what a toilet of a club it is and left.
The Marsh can only blame themselves and their past committee for the trouble they have found themselves in lately.
I mean getting smashed by your cross-town rival year after year must be awfully embarrassing.

Congratulations to the BFL redan and lakers on last nights first round. Terrific night and good football played. Really enjoyed it, great venue Austar Arena. Redan certainly not as potent as last year but still showed why they are a team to beat this year, with their midfield they will get plenty of opportunities to kick goals, clohesly also very impressive on debut for the club.
For the lakers I think they are better than what many believed, a fwd line of maxwell mcmahon and madden will match most, gilbert in the middle was also very good. Gee their coach was intense.
Great start to the year!
From past results the Marshans need to start winning games against anyone as opposed to worrying about specific opponents such as Darley.

Very interesting with young Shea as captain and Connors VC what a huge responsibility for a couple of 19 yr old kids walking into there second year as a senior player, which is renowned for being the hardest as everone has seen you play and knows how you operate. Throw in the bloke they are taking over from in Larson there big enough shoes to fill as it is. I understand they neva had much to pick from as they lost some leaders over the summer and its hard to throw a new recruit in as captain but come on they are 19 id hate to see ther footy suffer because of it but I wish em all the best and I hope they do well

Was a good night, Redan broke game open in 3rd qtr when Field and Edwards got on top. (murrihy had lock out at half time must have fired them up)
Lakers had there chance in last qtr when they had all play but couldnt kick a goal, they got within 20points.
Redan will be up there (top 4) but definitely lost some of their edge, it looked like lakers startled them early. Redan's #23 from mildura, has some good skills.
Lakers are definitely better than I expected, I reckon they could sneak in the top 6 if they can maintain that fwd line. Agree premiership, they need to beat more than Darley.
lakers huge improvers on lat yr should sneak into finals this yr. did anybody notice how well drilled redan looked for a side that has had interupted preseason. and keirran murrihy looking like hes got a bit of pace back when leading

Having not seen much BFL for a long time i quite enjoyed watching last night. It was interesting to see Feild still playing great footy and it really was noticble how well drilled the redan side was. Their midfield was the driving force and they often got a loose player on the defensive side of the contest and then they were released to run by the fella with the footy in the contest. Worked very well and gave them time to spot up options up the ground.
IMO unfortunately Murrihy is gone, too slow and lacks the ability to present like he used to be able to. Got his hands to a few balls but couldn't hold them because he was often under a lot of pressure from the pacier backman. Also he was exploited when backman ran off him and it gives the opposition an opportunity to switch and create play when he can't keep up.
Great coach and a great player but i think his time has gone

Agree, smarter sides will exploit Murrihy with his lack of pace. Was snibson injured? Lakers looked good in stages, but can't see them making finals but positives signs with good youth. Redan show glimpses of what there about but can't see them worrying East & Sunbury this year..

The weather obviously helped the night just had a terrific atmosphere.
I am a massive fan of muz, he will play his fair share of quality games, he is a proven coach also however their fwd line will be their most unstable part of the ground I believe. Last year Muz caught alot of teams off guard with match ups on himself as he had jonesy, reidy, nicho providing coverage, this year he wont have that coverage however kicking 4 in first game of the year aint a bad start. One of peace or waight definitely been replaced by Clohesly, he is quality, and Sammy Gosbell is a terrific pick up to strengthen ruck stocks and play key position fwd. Dont forget Justin Rumble who can also pinch hit out the square. Any worries about Redan falling were well and truly removed in my opinion.
For lakers, it is well known they have a fine junior development program, this is where alot of improvement will come as they have ready made senior players at a young age. Elder was good last night but will take time. Would not go as far to say lakers will make finals yet, especially being this is the only game played so far. They are definitely going to be competitive, but last year they missed finals by 3 or 4 games I think, so they need someone to slide hard for them to make it. They seem to have covered landry with madden and maxwell back, however the coverage of nesbitt will be toughest over the course of the year.

ive heard field and edwards mentioned as good players in redans midfield but i think the efforts of matty dwyer and jake bridges have been overlooked. both would have been in my best 3 on the ground, racking up possesions at will. lookout when newly appointed captain blommers finds some form!
also i think you boys are being a bit tough on muzza. its not just how he plays its his presence on the park! everyone on the ground knows that their coach is watching first hand and will see if your not sticking to team rules and gives a sense of accountability to the team when he's out there...

Not that I think Blomley is underrated, but I think he loses some of the spotlight due to the talent around him. No doubt, he is one of the most damaging players in the comp. He can run with the ball and is a thumping accurate kick. The only weakness is his weakness. He lacks a bit of heart sometimes.

lakers will not miss nesbitt as much as everyone thinks, seeing he hardly ever played cos of injury. they are used to playing without him.
Tomorrows game East and Ballarat, will be tighter than expected, if had been dry. East would've smashed them. Ballarat should only lose by 6goals instead of 16 goals, although no DJ singer, still happy to leave at 6goals.
Ballarat will improve but they dont have a ruckman now and will need to get back the 80-100points that they were losing by to the top 3 teams last year. East has a smarter and stronger midfield and an interleague ruckman.
I think people remember the last final where they nearly beat East and were full of emotion, East played poorly that day. They only just made top 6 last year.
The player to watch from East will be Fletcher and for Ballarat Otto.
It would be better to take pressure off ballarat today rather than fill them ful of false hope. Nice how they claim the silverware 2007 lightning "mickey mouse" premiership. they have been on the bottom for 10 years. I did hear they have changed the door handles from wooden to silver as well. It is a good point you raise about emotion, often predictions ar made over the summer based on emotion, plenty of sides have tread ballarats path to fall short in the past, just because you improve to move into the 6 doesnt mean you can then step up another notch, interesting to see what their improvement is to be this year.
Even without DJ East are a terrific side.
Muzza, fieldy, JED, bridges Snibbo, Hoggy, all Nth Ballarat boys. Matty has played interleague for both Ovens and Murray and Ballarat FL, terrific young player, Blomers, I assure you, is not underrated within the club. Look at the talent pool, it is little surprise they are up the top of the ladder.
I think the game of the round will be South Vs Darley there is a lot of history between these too clubs. It would be around 3 or 4 years since south have defeated darley. I know that darley have lost a few but i still expect this to be a very close game. Not sure if all the ex darley boys will be playing for south but you would expect a few fireworks early on.

Quite happy to reply rubber. Not sure if your an eastie or not but we can say that we didn't need to merge with another club to try and get the silverware!I assure you that there is no false hope this year. Winning the "mickey mouse premiership" was a bonus financially and that's about it. I'm prepared to say that i honestly believe that we are a top 3 side. Time will tell obviously and i hope i'm right, the way the game is played today suits our style of footy, fast footy. Bigger bodies maybe an issue but we honestly believe we are heading upwards and have the right mix of players. IMO
