Fisher to coach Maryborough
http://ballarat.yourguide.com.au/images/general/space.gif

EX-EAST Point coach Shane Fisher will coach Maryborough in the Bendigo Football League next year.

The 28-year old, who left the Red Lion Kangaroos after he was asked to re-apply for his job at the end of the season, yesterday confirmed he has been appointed senior coach of the Magpies for the next two seasons. East Point plans to announce its senior coach today.

Fisher, who had considered moving interstate to continue his football coaching career, said the Maryborough job had plenty of positives, including the opportunity to stay in the Ballarat area.

He will take on the position as a playing coach, despite being unable to play more than a couple of games with East Point due to injury. "I wasn't going to coach for the sake of coaching and Maryborough appealed the most," he said yesterday.

"Club-wise the facilities are second to none. They have a gym at their ground and there is a hell of a lot more you can do training when you have good lights. And being in a major league appeals a lot too.

"But this is not going to be about Shane Fisher, it's going to be about the Maryborough Football Club. This is a team with a lot of young players and, while it can be good to walk straight into a club that's had a lot of success, it's maybe better to play a part in building a team that is heading on the way up.

"There's no hiding I've had some hamstring problems this year, but I've been getting treated for that in Melbourne and I'm still getting some work done on that in Ballarat as well. I don't know if I'll be an 18-round player but if I play 12 or more games that would be good."

Maryborough finished the 2007 Bendigo Football League season in seventh place with five wins.

Fisher described the Magpies' position as not dissimilar to East Point when he took over the coaching role in 2005. But the former North Ballarat Roosters player said he was a vastly more experienced coach than when he joined the Kangaroos. "When you're coaching you're learning something new every week," he said. "I think I've developed a lot more as a coach since I started at East Point. I think the whole package, from training and management to match day, has improved."

Fisher left the North Ballarat Roosters after three seasons and 55 games to coach Lexton in the Lexton Plains Football League in 2002. He took over the top job at East Point in 2005, coaching the Kangaroos to three successive finals campaigns.

WTF are Maryborough doing appointing a muppet like fisher, like his quote is a perfect example "But this is not going to be about Shane Fisher, it's going to be about the Maryborough Football Club" his total career has only ever been about Fisher and Maryborough will find this out very soon in his appointment.

As far as a playing coach he will be lucky to play 2 games as he is no good, whatever treatment he has been getting its actually been on his tatoos, he is getting them removed, or in his case colored in.

:D:D:D:D:D hahahahahah the joke is now in charge of maryborough.

Darley to Sunbury because of Matt and Mark Power. Now that they are both gone South because of Scoble. Now run along check with Scoble and try to get on the same page. Once you speak with him come back on and tell me again I am making things up.

But did he deny Kega is top of his wish list? And does he need to discuss with you or can he make his own call? Looks like only one half of the coaching team is actually trying to make South press forward.

Look foward to your comments this time next year. You may be excited now but will be cringing when his name is mentioned in 12 months. Trust me you want his hammy to keep pinging because there is nothing worse than a playing coach that won't put his head over the ball.

The line above about Mary being very similar to East when he 1st took over - unless he can get the Jordan boys across to Mary - 5 wins will be your best result.

K/A i agree with you totally that Fisher cannot play at this level, His hammy is an excuse to use when the going gets tough and is an easy way out for him.

K/A whilst on the subject of the Jordans is it true that Ben was offered the job but now Johnson is available and unless he gets picked up by anothe AFL club he will be back as senior coach on $50k and working part time at the sports club.

has anybody got any idea who will be coaching east point?

they have plenty of ex-afl players around the club who would be capable of fulfilling the role

see in todays courier that east point would be announcing their coach maybe later today, also see Sebas are now after a new coach as well, sunbury chasing Ben Jordan hard i heard and that the Lakers Job was still vacant, Redan have filled theirs.

will be very interesting to see who coaches the 4 sides and its a real guessing game, can anyone shed some light on what they have heard, have tried to find out but clubs are playing cards close to their chests and keeping "mum" about appointments.

Has their ever been so many changes in coaches in the BFL like this year, 5 new coaches in season 2008.

without fisher and power who can we hang it on now, maybe the veteran coach in swooper northey might be the Big Footy bunny.

Watch this space as i put the heat on the clubs and spy and see if i can get the inside word on what is taking place at club level.:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

Fisher to coach Maryborough

I thought you guys might appreciate this moving piece from yesterday's Maryborough Advertiser...

In a statement to the club, Fisher said "I passionately believe the role of today's coach is more than just teaching skills of the game. In football at any level, we play a significant role in the general development of people, and in particular, our youth," he said.

Sorry leak but East Point were already a finalist when Fisher took over, in fact they missed the finals in his first year as coach. Fisher drawing a long bow to make that comparison!Surprised if he played more than six games as I don't think he is mentally strong when it come to injuries. Anyway good luck to Fisher and all the best to Maryborough in 2008.:thumbsu:

Quote from media story, "Fisher described the Magpies' position as not dissimilar to East Point when he took over the coaching role in 2005. Creeker35 i back you up on that statement and refer people to check their facts, east point actually made the finals the year before fisher took over as coach and in his first year there they just missed out by 4.29% and finished seventh with 10 wins and were very competative, in the interview he said that that he sees comparisons between the two clubs, east point were finalists and maryborough won 5 games. Fairly different i see.

This is exactly what i'm talking about the facts and the facts are that after 3 years at east point they have seen the light and got rid of him as he has many flaws in his coaching abilities.

Coaching updates ? I have not yet found out any more on whos coaching who but a little birdie told me that Lakers had Adrian Cox all but signed and sealed then got cold feet and has now ended up back at Sale, okay a little birdie did not tell me this it was that specimen of a man they call Gareth Hall on Win TV last night.

He also reported that Ben Jordan was as good as gone and that Shane Hutchinson was a firm favorite at East Point, any word on that announcement, i thought someone would have said something by now.

Hey Chawk, where to and/or why has Matt Walder gone?

I can answer that one for you magnet... I had two years under matt walder at tigerland and he was a top coach, well respected and great leader on and off the field...:thumbsu: Fittest 36 year old I have ever seen!!!! won pretty much all time trials and runs pre-season and was best on in our GF win this year... Maybe fish could have a yarn to matty about how to coach by the sounds??? Unfortunately due to work options being better back home he's had to move back mildura way I think... He did say if it was purely a footy decision he would of stayed on.... He's left pretty big shoes to fill as far as we're concerned:thumbsu: Anyone keen on coming up here to wagga town and have a crack at coaching the mighty tiggers ?... I myself moved up to wagga from the rat 7 years back and it's a great town with good footy....

I would not think so. Why would you travel up to Gordon 2 nights a week in the cold and shit conditions for a couple of $ and then go and play on a Saturday in a shit competition. Yeah they have got there 3 strong teams that still would not make our top 6, and then it falls to shit. Our top 4 2s sides this year would beat most sides up there. Daylsford left the BFL because it could not compete and now they are the powerhouse of the comp. Gordon won 1 game for the year so im sure it would be a thrilling experience, But thats just my oppinion. Maybe money will talk as it did last year with Cox and the likes leaving the devils to go play shit footy .Loyalty in football has all but gone money talks and bullshit walks.

Hynsey is definitely a choice out of the box, bit like knights at essendon, he has been around footy a long time, must admit came as a surprise to many around town however like OS said, he will do things his way. Interesting that the committee obviously thought they needed someone outside the existing group, thought there may have been some other good candidates.

My mate writes a bit of poetry lads, emailed me this one last week, what do you think

A Date with Destiny
Not as easy as you might imagine, not as clears as you may see
For written down for who knows eyes, is another piece of me

But I suppose the way it goes, it’s a test I choose to face
And poets prays for days like this, these are the times we chase

I’m a cat’s man you see, I’ll always be, there’s hoops around my heart
And there’s a premiership to talk about, but Mondays where I start

Charlie went home with courage, and I had my dollars on the man
And with a genius right beside him, a believer I would stand

I’d held my faith in a prelim escape, to narrow for the nerves
For the day was won by a fathers son and it’s the trust that he deserves

Of course past defeats were mentioned, as the power talked it up
Forty four years of pressure ohh I’d almost heard enough

But words would count for nothing in the middle where it mattered
History recalls they folded as record books were shattered

A nervous wait transformed itself into celebration
I’d had a beer or two, but I was filled with admiration.

Stevey Johnson claimed the norm smith, and the doubters disappeared
A larrikin ducked behind the bar, but all Australian reappeared

Scarlet simply smashed them, as he controlled it from the back
And there was champion in Chapman, as he soared above the pack.

Composure found a rising star. A captain led us well
A hairy cat finally left his mark as his gracious eyes would tell

And a dozen other heroes earned more than just my praise
My respect will last forever, my pride for endless days

We won’t forget too easily this year you made your own
There were bear hugs for mates, and the old girl on the phone

I can’t believe it either mum, but it is the way it seems
We walk in our hearts desires, we stand amidst our dreams

And I’m not too proud, I will admit, that I may have shed a tear
But I’m a sucker for a sequel; I’ll catch you guys next year.

As someone who has seen the Ballarat FL quite a lot over the past 5 years Ben Jordan is a quality person who could command big dollars, Ben is in the latter stages of his career and if he can get some good money then i say good on him, on the other hand his brother Dan is in the prime and from what ive heard he knocked back huge offers to leave eastpoint last year $30k from Hepburn, but his mates with a lot of them and he landed in a pretty good job and he loves the place. I see him in a couple of the local watering holes and have had a few beers with him on the odd occasion and hes not going anywhere is what the word is around town.

Other news i have heard is that the Lakers are really dirty on Cox, had a job, money was ok, and at the last minute he pulled the pin. Back to Square one at lakerland....

Sebas, well thats another kettle of fish isnt it, wtf are they doing down there? they have money, facilities and should be in a much better position that they are, they cannot attract anyone to take them on, we all hear that they have approached many people but no one wants to take the job on as its a big basket case im told........Scotty left them well and truly in it didnt he!.

Well thats it for me but a little birdy told me that their will be some big news relating to Nth Ballarat VFL side in the coming days, the roosters have given the Kanagroos the flick and they are going to stand alone and are getting ready to raid Redan, East Point and Ballarat clubs to recruit guys to play in their ordinary seconds and throw a bit of coin at them to play twos footy with the promise of getting a game in the ones just so they can get numbers.

The signing will happen this week and Jordan has committed to Sunbury if Libba gets the role. Libba will be well paid but will do a role simialr to Mick McGuane and Gisborne. He will be a footy manager as well as marketing the club. It will not be a purely coaching role.

Word also is Dan Jordan will be O/S next year so the merging dogs may be on the way down. A couple of big missed opportinites for them, especailly if a couple of the players who actually liked Fischer follow him to the Bendigo League.

Watch for the 2 Melton sides to be strong next year.

So is it official Libba is your new coach K.A.
I have Herd from a pretty good source that Sunbury are throwing a fortune at Libba
Is that your oppinion on what Jordan is doing next year or has he told Sunbury he will be with them

Chatted to a guy last night who is looking to leave Sunbury.

Told me players had been told there wont be much left over money to pay players as most of budget is going into getting Libba!

They were warned of player paym, ent cuts across the board!!!

Will he have any players left to coach, manage or market????

Libba would have to be getting a minimum 50k, Jordan would be getting at least 15k as his assistant, this would leave what i believe to be 60k out of the slush fund from the sports club to spend on players.

Hey kings army its very interesting that jordan has committed to you guys as i heard he was going to accept the assistants job at Greenvale.

Big chance he may be shopping himself around for the best deal. Sunbury will be competitive when it comes down to the almighty dollar.

On another note chatting with Belly and his missus at the club the other day and he now wants people to call him Bunny instead of Stingray. They think this will stop the way people think of him as a bit of a hard nut and now can show his softer side. Bunny Belly does have a nice ring to it.

$50K for Libba I think you would be looking at more up around 70K I spoke to a person who played with and is very close to Libba and they said it is not far from what he was getting as an assistant at Carlton which is huge money to coach a country club. But he was still hopeful of getting an AFL assistant roll as he wants to stay in the system.
By the sounds of it Ben Jordan will be a busy man with that being now 3 clubs he has signed at Sunbury, Melton and Greenvale he would be a huge positive for any side so lets just see where his name ends up on the transfer list.

The money being talked about here surely cannot be true. It shouldnt matter if you want Bomber Thompson to coach you, to pay someone upward of $50k at a country football club who isnt even going to kick a ball for you, is absolutely ridiculous, and will not guarantee success. All it really shows is more about the clubs psyche than anything else. How do you justify to your members to pay that much money when if as you say FFAT he is still keen to land an AFL assistant role, he takes off at the end of year 1 and you have just spent all that coin for nothing.
What would and should be of concern is those clubs that currently have no coach, we are about to hit November and surely players at those clubs lakers, Sebas, Sunbury must be feeling a bit ancy.

If you started associating with people who have a bit more class rather than just standing around just sucking on Serges balls you might be a chance of getting a half decent type, instead of the colossus of a thing you dragged back to the Sunbury football club after they lost the Grand Final.

Libba will fit in perfectly at Sunbury, he is a Scratcher, Biter, Gouger, so yep i think he will fit in perfectly down at clarke oval.

I thought Ben jordan was the smart one, what on earth is he doing being associated with Sunbury, the dollars must be pretty good as i heard last year you offered him $25 and he turned that down to be serges assistant.

The only positive i can see if the club has finally seen the light to put a broom through the place and sweep the deadwood out of the place.

oh and by the way i see that the BFL have got rid of their admin person at the league, can anyone eloborate further, I heard that the CEO and her clashed many times and was the main reason why she left.

FORMER Western Bulldogs star Tony Liberatore will coach Sunbury next year.

And in a second major coup, former East Point star and 2005 Henderson Medallist Ben Jordan will join Liberatore as a playing assistant coach with the eastern Lions for the 2008 RegionalOne Ballarat Football League season.

Liberatore, who finishes up in his role as an assistant coach at Carlton this week, has been recommended by Sunbury's current committee for a full-time role that combines football manager and coaching duties with the club.

The appointment needs only to be ratified by the club's incoming committee at the club's annual general meeting on November 13, a formality given the current committee is likely to be re-instated at the AGM.

Club president Greg Allen described the announcement as good news not just for Sunbury, but also for the BFL in general.

"At Sunbury we like pushing the bar and we think that country football does need full-time people now. Having someone like Tony around the club full-time will be great for our young players and when it comes to fitness we don't think you could do better," he said.

"He's still on Carlton's payroll as we speak so it's a pretty big appointment. It's awesome for country footy to have coaches like Tony and John Northey."

At this point the appointment is for one year. Allen said Liberatore and Jordan would play a major role in developing Sunbury's younger players in the post-Mark Power era.

"There is no expectation of flags. While Sunbury likes to play in grand finals, we recognise this starting point," he said.

"Serge' (Power) did a terrific job but we're now starting a new era. Our research has shown Tony is one of the best people you could get to coach and develop young players.

"Ben Jordan is the icing on the cake. His leadership on the field is something we will really benefit from."

Jordan, who lives in Sunbury, has joined the Lions for family reasons and leaves East Point with the club's blessing, Red Lion Kangaroos president Gerard O'Keefe said yesterday.

Sunbury is also hoping to retain 2007 captain Daryl Griffin, who retired along with Mark Power at the end of the season.

"Daryl played with Tony at Footscray, so we're hoping Daryl will reconsider his decision to retire and play another year," Allen said.
"Tony will have his game plan so we're going to talk to the players and hopefully we will keep a lot of our players." An early front-runner for the Sunbury position, Mark Johnson, is believed to be intending to nominate for the AFL draft, effectively ruling himself out of the running for the job.

Total Package believed to be $90k, not to challenge for a premiership and pay that sort of money for 1 year for 2 people is flipping crazy, but if they can afford that money then watch out when they start throwing the cash at players to virtually buy a premiership.

Hats off to the Redan FC you have shown both Sunbury and East Point on how you win flags, its about getting the right people on a limited budget and building the club around people wanting to be part of the place, Ballarat are right in the mix next season as they have done the same.

I think the role that Sunbury have set up for Libba is a great idea. Country footy is turning more professional by the day and the amount of phone calls and ass kissing coaches have to do would eat into their day. Having a full time role would relieve some of the stress on the coach for sure.

Having said all that, I love the fact that Redan are still very small time in their budget and overall operations yet still win flags.

Good call Creeker 35. I apologise. I am interested in views on the appointment of coaches. Are you better to spend more of a budget on good coaches like Libba and Northey and reduce player payments to foster juniors or bring in a coach that may attract players but will cost more in player payments. Also what do good players expect from clubs these days? We spoke about Redans budget and they won a flag so is it all money?

Stanleyy I appreciate your enthusiasm for the KINGS ARMYs prospects as I know you're aware of the stingrays capabilities of taking shitmen like him all the way to the top.

Belly might be a magician with the shellias but he's not Mother Teresa he ain't no f*ckin miracle worker, why don't you set him an easier task like finding Bin Laden or curing f*cking cancer, rather than helping the fat slob ride on Belly's coat tails.

Saw the KINGS ARMY at Crown and he is starting to look more and more like George Costanza every day, the hair's thinning out, the glasses are sinking into his fat cheeks more and more, and i think it's time he updated that cheap suit he wears everywhere, that is too small for him now. Either that or start concerning himself with his health and fitness, he is a candidate waiting to happen, with the Benson and Hedges hanging out of his mouth.

The way he's going Serge is going to have to trade him in on a new boy or take out a life insurance policy on him.

I don't know what the KINGS ARMY does for a job but obviously personal grooming and certain dress requirements are not needed to be met.

I doubt even the Stingray could be of assistance to the KINGS ARMY.

Belly gets a 22 stroke lead - that is how much of a cat - sorry bunny - he is. 22 shots over 18 holes shows the cap in the talent of the King and the Bunny. With his swing he should have asked for 30 as this game will be over on the 15th. He will need more than a puppet carrying his bag to get close.

If you need some extra cash back Devil Moon this Sat.

Hey Gaylord, just spoke to the Stingray he said he's only concerned about one thing and that is that you wont be able to drag your fat slob arse all the way around the 18 holes and be still alive to pay him at the end.

Give me a call ************ will arrange for an independent person we both know to hold the cash you can get on for as much as you like, now we'll see who the real bunny is. Will be there watching you walking up the 18th with your tail between your legs covering your vagina.

Hey queenie half and hour and still no call I now you've got the phone number cause you were still online, phone number will be on there till 10 o'clock and then i'll delete it. You get on all the threads sprukin and putting it on everyone and as soon as the challenge gets thrown out there you run and hide.

If you loose money to Belly on Sunday change your name from the KINGS ARMY to the Girl Guides, give me a call.

Don't worry Belly said he will take it easy on you when he's sticking it to you after the 16th hole when the game is all sewn up, he will only put it half in, yeah the back half, just lay there and take it like a man and don't squeal you bitch.

Good to see in the Ballara Courier the changerooms are getting done at eastern oval. Also mentioned was east point want to get lights to play night games. Can they play night games at the northern oval and darley? I know they used to and wondered why they stopped. Can anyone enlighten me?

Redan and Lakers played a night game at the Northern Oval at the start of the year, the only reason I can imagine that they can't play more would be the surface issues of playing too many games there.

Was that a twilight game? I thought health & safety issues with lights made it difficult for clubs to play under lights unless the lighting was at a certain level?

Just got back from Goona - shot a solid 77 which will give me the win by the 15th as I stated before. Send a private message with your number. Just give the cash to the Bunny so he can pass it onto me at about 10.30am on Sunday. Spoke with the Bunny and he now wants to reduce the bet. Instead of carrying his bag maybe you can clean him up when he sh!ts his pants when the pressure gets applied.

Stop typing with your elbows and get back to the windows. Putting it on people is easy when they have an IQ of a 3 year year like your good self - you come across stupid as f*ck.

Blah blah blah, you won golf, big deal.

You're still a fat ugly piece of crap with glasses and bad dress sense. You may have won the game of golf, but you are losing in the game of life.

There is a shemale from Gisborne called K.A

Who loves getting f*cked in the arse everyday

He rings his mate Serge

Whenever he feels the urge

And then tries to deny that he's gay

Shame you've got no friends and you had to play a round of golf on a Friday by yourself, keep convincing yourself that you're finally good at something, because we know that you're football career was non existent.

Mummy wouldn't let you play football as a young boy, you showed some potential with your piano lessons until they caught the piano teacher playing the Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture with your little testicles.

Of course that's when you got your part time job at the Gisborne Golf Club polishing the golf pros 1 wood, and cleaning his balls, and have a look at you now you haven't looked back.

Which would be the better (or worse) job?

Coaching the Lakers or coaching the Burra?

Seems they're both finding it tough getting someone, but especially the Lakers. I would have thought there was some half decent talent there?

Lakers had a real crack at Adrian Cox from Hawthorn. Apprently had a job etc lined up for him but deal fell threw. Lakers have got some good kids there and more coming through. Very hard on them not having a ground last couple of years but hopefully that will change for them. As Hynesy is good mates with Holla thought he might have gone to Lakers.

Sebas were ruined a few years ago by Scotty. They have some good juniors but they never seem to hold them. Have the funds but have a real culture issue down there. Not sure what happened with Slater. Not sure what the future holds for them as George McIntosh is a great guy that tries very hard but seems to have little support. Hopefully they will get someone soon.

Current BFL Coaches:
Sunbury: Tony Liberatore (early flag favourite)
Redan: Damian Lubeek (ex VFL) new coach will be interesting to see how he goes. Will be there abouts again
Ballarat: John Northey (will be thereabouts)
East Point: Michael Hynes. (new coach) good side that has underachieved. Have lost gun midfielder to Sunbury. Depending on losses and coach, could be thereabouts
Melton. Simon Payne. Unknown quantity
Melton South. Travis Chapman. Unknown quantity
Lakers. don't have a coach at this stage
Sebas. Don't have a coach at this stage but will struggle
Bacchus Marsh. Dion Miles should do better with a year under belt.

The CHFL gets good support but the standard is not as good as BFL. Top sides normally have 3 or 4 guns and then the rest drop away pretty quick.

You looking for a game.

cheers mate appreciate it - yeah probably got a couple of years left in me.... Just thinking whether the rig (played on a crook ankle all year and have rooted it up a bit) would stand up to BFL or central highlands might be worth a crack.... John Northy as in "the" John Northy?

Redans Budget Including Coach Is $60-70k

70k = Fields, Edwards, Murrily, Snibson, Blomley.

Redan idiots trying to pretend these players played for fun. 60k to 70k -what a joke. Is there one BFL supporter beside Redan supporters that think Redan paid there entire playing list 60k? You need to remember that some of the Redan and Sunbury players have played together and do talk about wages when they catch up.

Fields $700 per game = 15k
Edwards $700 per game - 15k + a cash bonus of 6k paid at the end of the year. He is really enjoying his o/s trip with this bonus as he told most of his work mates at CDC plumbing.
Murrily - 20k
Snibson - $400 per game 9k
Blomley - $400 per game. 9k

Well there is 74k to start. So please stop with this crap that they do it on a shoe string budget.
