ORACLE 69

Oracle, clearly you have too much time on your hands, but a reasonable assumption in the end. I think all 3 finals arent clear cut, as Ballarat do have a great % only because they have played ordinary sides twice that said they can kick a big score, which would be against Sunbury who has the best defence (lowest score against)...however the goal kickers need to be on song and for some reason you wont answer my question?
By the way you didnt respond about Mark "Boiled Lollies" Nunn, is he injured, why hasnt he kicked many goals this year, he doesnt look interested
Darley and melton South will be a ripper, which could go either way. Both Fit, I would even tip a draw..then extra time, I'd lean to Darley.
East should account for lakers, who have missed Weymouth and Webb for most of the year and theyare important. East missed 10 minutes of footy against Darley and reckon that record will be the answer when al things considered.
Boiled lollies is looking for a big finals series. Remember his 8 goal haul in the 1st semi final against east point that left poor old fisher crying, his hangers on backstabbing him and then using him as the scape goat. Where are all the hangers on or are you one of them rubba?

And he's done nothing since. Softest player in the BFL.

Thanks for your response about "Boiled Lollies" Nunn, at least I know he is fit and you agree that he is playing Sh.thouse.
Yes the 8 goals was a big day out, although rare these days.
No I didnt backstab Fish, not sure why he was so poorly treated by the club, Hynesy is doing ok with a reasonable list this year. Fortunately the comp has come back a bit this year, so much I reckon last years top 5 would win this years flag, not sure who finished 6th last year.
Anyway thanks update on Nunn, reckon he is injured though.;)
I hear that there is a side of tardy-looking fatties playing D Division Korfball at the YMCA on Friday nights that may be looking for a coach.
Maybe Franky P can find a home right thurr.

Fisher resigned immediately after losing the unloseable against Ballarat, end of story. Is that poorly treated is it?

Unloseable, tell me what game of footy is unloseable, Ballarat arent a bad side, there just not a good side. contrary to their own ego's. last Time I looked Ballarat didnt win the flag last year.
Why didnt they re-appoint him later in the season approaching finals, when they had the chance? No lets hold off and wait, for what? up near the top of the table not ever side can win the Grand final apparently only 1 side will win it this year, not 2. So someone is going to get questioned about performance in finals.
I havent seen Ballarat in a Grand final in recent years.
I reckon they thought they get BJ. But he didnt want to travel and coach, he lives spitting distance from Sunbury so that is convenient and he respected at East for his decision.
Sides like Ballarat have achieved less, yet they keep appointing Northey. You cant tell me Ballarat has bad list, it probably just gets paid less than other clubs, supposedly. East pay players and Ballarat pays a coach, it's a matter of what you need.

Dear Shane Manley,
Without a doubt you are the ugliest man in Ballarat with your your big fat chin in the paper! Quote from Shane Manley " Good luck to North Ballarat for winning the off field but we are interested in who wins the on field battle "
Well looks like you lost both battles my friend!!!!!!! And to all the Ballarat players out there who may reply who is higher on the ladder I think your chances in the finals have been shot to pieces. Good luck you dumb pricks! Good on you North City shove it up em.

Well done to the Marsh players that came in and had a beer after their embarassing loss yesterday. Showed some class.
There would have been more come in, but most could not fit through the door (Brae, Killoran, Miles, Horsehead, Pie Shea). Fattest club in the BFL.

I hope that BigFooty's "Brad Miller man-crush society" can share some of their love with Trav Stephenson this week. "Big Trav" was awesome on Saturday kicking a lazy nine goals.

Hey Chief,
You are actually quite amusing as I have said before. I'm being serious. I actually laugh out loud when I read your posts - unlike your idiot friend Chumpy (which is prob you?) He has nothing interesting to say at all.
Yes my spelling was pretty bad - if you check out the time though you need to give me some credit I just got home after another one of our fantastic functions. I was a little under the weather.
That's a bit harsh re. our netballers. I think they are hot looking. Yes Frank did a great job - we had our two best actually on the bench so it wasn't too cruel for you. I could comment on the looks of some of your girls but wouldn't be so cruel to mention names on here.
What happened with Zane Dix yesterday?? Did anyone see?? Heard it's going to be looked at??? Yes great game by the big boy Trav. He has been an excellent player for the Devils for many years now - good guy too.The question remains???? Will the Devils be able to maintain their good form come September??

Yes well done to the Carpet Pythons if you are happy to celebrate one win (senior netball) from 6 matches on the day, it shows where your Second rate club is at in life! Darley slapped you in all footy grades and had 6 first grade players out.
Bring on South!

A tad harsh on the Chump, i thought i was quite humerous. Oh well back to the drawing board. Might spend the next six months eating Macca's and KFC to make sure I can play in the Marsh's midfield next year.
Fat disgrace and joke of a club.
Any truth in the rumour you are changing your name next year to the "Dockers". Seems to fit well, being the laughing stock in a 2 team town.
Dix played in a winning side yet again against your joke club, lay off him. Worry about your fat recruits food intake.

Just got off the phone from a Sunbury lanscaper that was asked to tip in another 1k to the club to help with this years player payments. I know Sunba ohhh sunba are always good for cash but is there any truth to the rumour that Angelo Lekkas was paid a 10k sign on fee to play??? If so would Sunba ohhhh Sunba rather equate that to 5k a game or 1k per kick?
How much did Dimmatina Turner and Hey Jose come for? and why are their kids still on 60 bucks a game when they are better players? Sunba as a club is slowly breaking the formula that made them such an institution because a 4 foot gypsy has come in and raped them of all of what is morally right and correct.
Lets just hope the powers that be at Sunba have the backbone to get rid of this garden gnome before they end up heading down the same path as Bacchus Marsh when Kourkamelis and Co rode into town high in their saddles and rode out of town higher in their saddles with pockets full of cash, no premiership and a club in ruins for the next 15 years.
Good luck to the Melton south netballers this week, the only side to have all 7 senior players tattooed and more importantly the only side to smash a 40 pack of Longbeach Super Milds at the half time break.
Sunbury are like Hepburn, trying to buy a premiership. lot of money getting thrown around.

Your all getting carried away though boys, that alleged incident isn't worth the minutes you have wasted typing away on your keyboard and I suspect that the aim of the Python boys who want to discuss it is to take the focus of the panting that they received by a much better team. 'We're not soft' says BFL
28/07/2008 12:31:00 AM
THE Ballarat Football League has condemned claims published in a rival league's official program that it is soft and lacks spirit.
BFL chief executive Rod Ward described as "rubbish and insulting" an article that appeared in the Riddell District Football League record, which said the Ballarat league lacked "completely in any passion" and that BFL players play for the team that
"pay the highest amount of dollars".
The article, written by independent journalist Mike Lyon, and published in the RDFL's weekly journal, said the BFL match between Melton and Melton South "lacked the real contest and emotion of a rivalry game".
Lyon said "I won't be attending any further BFL games this year (unless they are on a Sunday) due to the league lacking completely in any passion that the RDFL so readily displays week in, week out."
Ward said the BFL was staggered by the RDFL's decision to publish the article in its official journal.
"While we understand why the RDFL would promote the strengths of its own competition, we find it incomprehensible the RDFL would do so whilst making derogatory comments about the Ballarat Football League," Ward said.
"The Ballarat FL considers the decision by the RDFL to publish the article, clearly written by someone who is looking through glasses clouded by a bit of self interest, to be ill-judged and naive."
RDFL chief executive officer Scott McCartney said the article was written by a student journalist and did not reflect the views of the league itself.
"I don't think it is an issue. It is just an independent view of a writer, and does not constitute the league's opinion."
Who would've thought that RDFL Record would be running for the award of best comedy publication!

Redan in hunt for new coach
29/07/2008 1:18:00 AM
REDAN'S search for a coach for season 2009 has begun.
The Porter Plant Lions have started the process of finding a replacement for Shane Snibson after the former Rooster told the club he would not take on the role next season.
The announcement means Redan has hit the ground running as the first, and potentially only, Ballarat Football League club in the hunt to snare a new coach by the end of the season, club president Darryl Blomeley said.
"We want someone in the same mould as what we've had," Blomeley said.
"Someone who understands the culture of the club and the culture of the players.
"The timing is deliberate so we give ourselves the best chance to select the right person for the club.
"It won't necessarily be someone who has had an involvement at Redan but it will be someone who reflects the culture of the place.
"Shane has indicated he won't be coaching next year. If he changed his mind we would re-appoint him for next year without hesitation.
"He is always welcome to have a role at Redan and I'm sure he will have some role at the club next season.
"Snibbo's appointment was always going to be a one-year deal. "
Snibson will coach the remainder of the 2008 season.
He said his decision to step down was due to the time commitment demanded of the job.
"I'm focusing on the remainder of the season, bearing in mind our reserves will play finals football," Snibson said.
"I fully support the club in it's decision to announce this now and will endeavour to insist in any way with the new appointment."
After back-to-back premierships, the Lions appear all but certain to miss the RegionalOne BFL finals for the first time since 2001.
Blomeley said the loss of key players like Matt Dwyer, Luke Nunn and others, along with the upheaval caused by Damian Lubeek's decision to pull out of the coaching role just before the start of the season had made Snibson's
job particularly difficult.
"We feel Shane has done the club a real service taking on the job. He knew it was going to be difficult and certainly didn't take the job just for the glory of coaching a premiership team," Blomeley explained.
"It has been a difficult year for him. It was a last-minute appointment and he was working in Melbourne for half the year, which made it a real tough ask for him.
"In his last coaching role, he won a premiership at Beulah in 2005, so there is no doubt he can coach."
Blomeley said recruiting new players would also be part of Redan's revival. He said the club's juniors were in good shape but the senior team could benefit from an injection of players in their prime.
"We'll have to get key players in to move back up the ladder," he said.
"We have some terrific kids coming through from the reserves and under-18-and-a-half. But even beyond that it has been a long, long time since our juniors have been as strong as they are now.
"We've already blooded kids through the year, giving them a taste of senior football. Nathan Horbury from Mt Clear, who is only 16, for example.
"He is the first 16-year-old to play at the club at senior level since club legend Colin Chester. He is an example of player who is the future of the club." The Redan board will remain the same in 2009 although some positions within the board are likely to change.

BFL Reserves > RDFL Seniors
Gav McGrath's BFL Record column > Mike Lyon's RDFL column :D
I write for The Free Press in Kilmore and also do a review/preview for the RDFL Record each week and I don't think Mike Lyon's comments were intended to be derogatory towards the BFL. Simply, he was trying to point out how far the RDFL has come in recent times, in terms of football standard, crowd sizes and genuine excitement in the league.
I was standing with about four or five footballers when I first read his article and I must say I did have a chuckle. He did get it wrong when he said the BFL lacked passion, but his intentions were okay when trying to promote the Riddell league. I think Wardy should just worry about all the BFL clubs wanting to return back home (yes Rod, they did come from the RDFL), rather than worry about what another league has in its record. Perhaps the Courier were short of a story this week?
Pickman, as for your comments regarding league superiority, I know for a fact that RDFL ladder leaders Riddell would be very competitive in the BFL. Middle-tiered sides such as Lancefield, Macedon etc. would finish down the ladder, but Woodend-Hesket and Riddell would certainly hold their own. As for your reserves comment, all reserves competitions across Victoria are shithouse now because money has crept into senior footy. Clubs can ill-afford to have a heap of depth.
matt_nicholls
29 Jul 2008, 15:03
Chieftont, we both admire one another's work, so at least we have something in common :D
I agree with some of your points, but I did point out that Riddell and Woodend-Hesket would be the only sides capable of competing with the elite of the BFL teams.
Firstly, Lee James played as a defender at Sunba ohh Sunba, and did a pretty good job. He was a talented youngster and probably never fulfilled his potential in those days.
Secondly, youngsters like James Climas, Peter Robertson and James Petran, all very handy footballers aged under 20, are being targeted by Carlton through VFL affiliate Northern Bullants. Robertson wasn't far off getting drafted last year and Climas has had a stint at VFL club Bendigo Bombers.
Thirdly, Sam Young is a gun and dominated the Bendigo Football League 3-4 years ago and is destroying opposition sides in the RDFL each week.
Fourthly, players like Mark Power, Justin Belleville, Mick Allen, Young, James, Dean Besanko etc have tasted plenty of success at a higher level than the RDFL.
The only main flaw I can see with Riddell's side is their lack of a power ruckman, which would be a big disadvantage in the Ballarat league. However, young Glenn Robertson has managed to hold his own against ruckman who have done well at a higher level - ie - Ryan Connellan, Alan Carroll, Steve James, Jamie Cuffe etc.
As for BFL clubs returning home, I doubt it will happen, but there are clubs talking about it, which is not a good sign. I know Wardy wasn't too happy when I suggested it last year.

Not a bad post Fat Dion- I think that it was very well written and i wish you all the best. A man once said that "you cant make fruit cake from horse sh!t" but with the right ingredients i think you may be able to turn the horse sh!t into worthy manure that might have some use in someones garden. Who knows from there you might grow a tree that will flower in the spring and you may have something to one day be proud of. I will warn you of the type of poisons that seem to linger in your garden (also referred to as Bugs, Magpie, Doddy and Suther) because they are one thing that will attack your garden and end their bloom or simply force them to be re-planted in kinder climates such as Hepburn etc. Fat Dion believe in yourself and stay strong- get rid of the posion that ruins your club, like a few of them have recently tried to do to you!!!! (particularly when Suther rang Adam Skrobolak to see if he would be interested in coaching next year, only two weeks prior to your re- signing).
Oh p.s- i dont have to remind anyone on here that the Brad Miller on heris a fake so dont listen to his rot.
Now come on Chief don't be silly, why are you telling people that? I know that you are just trying to protect me, but if I am man enough to come on here and speak for myself rather instead of just absorbing the silly rumours (that most probably take as fact), then isn't that all good?
I know that I can't write as good as you (your posts are funny too) but I can play footy and I know how big of a fan of mine you are (along with all of you who have private messaged me, thanks guys). So just for the record, I pride myself on the same things that you pride yourself on and I promise that I will continue to tell it like it is. DEVILS '08.

Ok Chief in, haha.
Sam Young would not play in our midfield and i know you find that hard to believe but he is not near as good as Miller, Cheevers or Tuddy Edwards. I have seen play his whole junior career and he was brilliant at 16 but he has faded to be just a good player. He has a bad temperament when things dont go his way and his disposal under pressure isn't up with the premier on-ballers in the BFL. He played at Sunbury and in his first season he was good but was beaten convincingly by the better on-ballers. The second year well lets just say Sam's reserves career needed serious attention. Mark Power was one of the best on ballers i have seen but he was finished 2 seasons ago and quite possibly cost his side the grand final last year when he had 3 kciked on him in the first quarter and was too stubborn to admit defeat. Credit where credit is due though, he was one of the best i have seen but well past it. Justin Belleville is just a player and not very brave. I have seen him play alot and dont rate him.
Dean Besanko played with us and was a handy forward pocket but forward pockets wont win you a flag. Great guy but was only marginally better than a fringe player. May have seen Mick Allen but not sure- if he only rates third or fourth with them guys then he isn't worth mentioning. Like i said some of these guys may have been good players or come from good clubs but i dont think they would be in the top ten players at Darley (excepting James when he is on). I still wouldn't swap him for our full forward Newman who has done all that James has done only at a higher level.
Darley lack a premier ruckman however apart from Little at Sunba ohhhhh Sunba i think the whole league lacks one. Clubs arent talking about it Matt- people from clubs are talking about it (the sort of people who dont have the intellect to make such decisions). Any one of these clubs that thought it would be a step forward is kidding themselves excepting maybe the Marsh who need a get out of jail card because they have nothing to offer and no brains to pay for the right product. The only option would be the hybrid SUPERLEAGUE suggested on your Riddell forum that contained only the super clubs from Ballarat, Riddell and Bendigo but it will never happen.
James would not tie Newmans shoe laces.
He is an ok player in a shit league. I cant believe this conversation comparing the 2 leagues is taking place. The RDFL is a second rate division 2 league enough said.

Thanks for the support Chief,
I respect Darley and your good self,
My garden is struggling at the moment with Bugs and also magpies swooping, it does get frustrating especially when magpies talk to you and you get saliva particles all over your face. (Sorry Magpie but someone had to say it, your constant drool is quite scary for the under 8's)
To be honest when I walked into this club I couldnt believe my eyes, There netball side sucked, there football side sucked, there portable classroom (AKA Viper Room) sucked, there players sucked, but most of all there canteen sucked.
Now dont get me wrong there is a lot of effort that goes into making sure the Pies are hot and the cans of cola are stacked 3 high but we need more variety! I have come to the conclusion that we need the following
Beef Pies
Steak and Mushroom Pies
Steak and Pepper Pies
Steak and cheese pies
Hell, anything with some form of hardcore meat product would be an improvement.
So BMFNC please take note and get some more pies ASAP!
I am a visonary and for a successfull footy side you need to keep everyone at there peak, hence, more pie.
Well thats my little rant for today.
Until next time

Thats right Sunbury are a successful club and thats something Darley or Melton South aren't. Even Melton have won more flags in recent times than both of them. How many prelims have the "mighty" Devils stumbled at with stage?? Neither of them have won a flag for 13-14 years. Yeah Sunbury are having a bad year, yet they are still third. Darley or South have a bad year and can't even make the finals! The Devils aren't over the line by a long way yet, and once other clubs work out that they can get inside Miller and Newman's heads, the boat will start to rock a bit and get a few holes in it. They better win it this year because it's the best opportunity they have had for a long time.

No, not the flu. Just McMahon and Sutton doing hammies picking up their pay packets. Most over-rated, highly paid players going around who can never seem to produce the goods when they play the Devils.

Yes agree with the injury, however not sure about most overrated over paid in the league. The old man Smith gets paid fairly well at the Marsh, however he gets Dion's big wrap everywhere he goes.
Anyway back onto Sutton and Mcmahon, who deserves to get the best defender out of these 2? Reardon is probably the best out of all them just get long in the tooth.

MPU (missing persons unit) Lost, last seen dribbling crap on here. or maybe hiding in showgrounds at Austar.
Has Shame Manley eaten him, did notice the double chin in the paper and Nose in the air.
Must say Mark Boiled Lollies Nunn was back in the best with a ripping 2 goals. 4 more weeks to go then he'll be on fire and thats when we get the chocolates back. Maybe he should look at Rick, who is about to take the mantle of leading goal kicker.

Reardon? You must be kidding. Reardon plays forward, back or midfield depending on where he will get the easier kicks.
Sutton and McMahon can win games off their own boot. I have seen Reardon have over 30 possessions and South still get beat. The only goals he kicks is in puss time when they are either down by 10 goals or up by 10 goals.

As for Darley- your right they have stumbled at the last hurdle in the past 13 years but we have been round-about almost every year. This is why we have more members than anyone and why we have huge crowds to every game. No 0ne wants to see a club up for a year and then dog sh!t for the next 20 because you blew your budget. We have more money than most clubs yet our on-field success this year could be attributed to our local flavour with 14 players last week playing juniors for our club.Oh and how do you suspect that other clubs will get inside Miller and Newmans heads? I suspect you guys did a good job last week when Miller had 35 touches and kicked 5 goals.. The only way you stop him is get someone to shoot him- he is the best player in the whole world and could possibly win the Henderson by world record margin. Newman has been shutdown the past 4 weeks and i guess if you have a quiet word to his body when he isn't listening then you might be able to ask it to get injured so he cant play. He has averaged a bag of goals a game- he cant be stopped
Take the locals Newman Cheevers and the Ranga out Darley would finish 5th.
As for Miller and the Henderson I will be willing to end either the Chief or the Army. If Miller wins I will never post again if he dosen't you never post again. That means Noddy9 and Chump you can no longer log in as either. In or out?

Reported 5 times beore 21 it looks like someone had a Daddy complex. Having a great year for someone that wanted to walk away from Darley and the game at the end of last year.

Done deal- i take your bet. How about we add a little added bonus. Whoever wins- then within a week of the Henderson then we could meet alone at the Bullengarook oval (half way) and unmask our identities alone and say our piece to each other? I have stayed away from commenting on the Bendigo league because it is your space so how about you stay off mine... Everybody knows your history and the bad things that have happened to you in your life and i suppose it doesn't need re-visiting.. I will not keep this personal problem going because it just upsets me to the point where it is gonna end up with a bad result. I post under Noddy9 however it is not my account- so i will speak to the original Noddy. Chumpy is an independant person at the club so that will stay. Hope you honr your bet
Great bet is on and no coming through the backdoor with a new log on.

Always a win for the Devils
1/08/2008 12:16:00 AM
"IN A way we can't win."
Melton South coach Travis Chapman has already conceded one thing as the Panthers take on ladder leader Darley at the Melton Recreation Reserve tomorrow.
It's not that Chapman thinks his team isn't good enough to beat the Devils - on the contrary, Chapman expects the Panthers to give a very good account of themselves.
It's just that, regardless of whether the Panthers are ahead on the scoreboard when the final siren goes, outsiders will still consider the Devils the BFL's best team.
"We are going into this match hoping and expecting to win," Chapman said. "We think we're as good as them on our day.
"But in a sense we can't win. If we lose then people will say Darley are better than us, while if they lose people will just say they are due for a loss.
"It's not something we're worried about. We're not competing with Darley for our spot in the finals, we're competing with East Point and Sunbury. If we drop this one we just have to make it up against those other clubs.
"But really, we don't need to do much to get ourselves up for a Darley-Melton South clash."
Darley's winning ways continued last Saturday, the Devils making it six wins in a row with a thumping victory over cross-town rival Bacchus Marsh.
Melton South, meanwhile, has freshened up after the bye, but Chapman admits that can be a double edged sword.
"Personally, I think the bye is good for guys in terms of physical freshness. But I don't think teams have done that well after the bye. It is that mental side of the game that is a concern," Chapman says.
"Most of our guys who were carrying injuries have come up well after the break although a couple of blokes are still proppy."
One of those who has come up is full forward Matthew Sutton, but there remains an injury cloud over first ruck Mark O'Day.
Darley will be an even more imposing proposition than the team that won easily on Saturday, with the return of key forward Adrian Newman, and seniors regulars Travis Edwards, Clinton Young and Shaun Deckert. PREDICTION: Darley by 10 points.
I know the umpires do a great job most of the time and its easy to sit on the sidelines and judge BUT
Is it normal for 2 X 50m free kicks within 20m of goal, that both resulted in goals to occur one after the other without the ball returning to the centre?? (maybe i am wrong there not sure )
This is just one of many dozens of ridiculous decisions that occured in 2nd quarter of the sebas v ballarat 18s game. No not club umpires but paid ones!!
2 players red carded, one for throwing mud whilst on the mark (something i have seen many times) the other for simply saying take off ur red jumper ump.
EVEN the opposition was commenting that the umps were wrong!!!!
Not making excuses ballarat were a better team and won the game off their own backs but I have honestly never seen such bad umpiring in any league or level of footy!! :thumbsd:

THE umpiring at the North City v Bacchus Marsh game was woeful.
One umpire (the older bloke with the curly hair) was consistent and fair, but the other (a blond kid) was terrible.
He disallowed a Bacchus Marsh goal (sure, one Marsh player did something stupid after it was kicked, but the goal had already gone through, so should have stood) and then gave two in a row in the last quarter when Sam Sims should have been given the free (he wasn't) and when the Marsh blokes complained (they deserved to) gave the North City bloke a second shot.
Three goals when the game was there to be won. Just shit.

Darley seals minor premiership in style
3/08/2008 11:59:00 PM
ANOTHER day, another emphatic win for the Darley Football Club.
The Devils proving beyond any doubt that they will be the team to beat this September after disposing of another premiership contender, Melton South 17.13 (115) to 11.10 (76) at Melton Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
With the game on a knife-edge at three-quarter time, the extra class and poise under pressure allowed Darley to dictate terms in the final 30 minutes of the game. The Devils piled on seven goals to one in the final term to run
out comfortable 39-point winners.
After wins over top four sides Sunbury, East Point and Melton South in their past four matches, Darley is nows two wins and a big percentage clear of second-placed Sunbury and with a bye in hand, the Devils have wrapped up
the minor premiership.
The game, seen by many as a grand final preview, lived up to its top billing, was an entertaining affair played at a high standard with both sides enjoying periods of control during the game.
Adrian Newman made a timely return from injury. The Devils' full forward moved well, finishing the game with seven goals including three to spark his side in the final quarter, reinforcing his value and importance to the Darley
side in a best-on-ground performance.
Newman's return was timely too, with those who had covered the gap left by him in recent weeks either absent or down on the usual output.
Enigmatic forward Travis Minns was a late withdrawal, Brad Miller was relatively quiet by his standards and Travis Stephenson was unable to replicate his nine-goal effort against Bacchus Marsh last week.
Darley was far from a one-man band, late inclusion Kyle Doyle showing why he is one the most promising young players in the competition, showing a maturity on the field beyond his years. Chris MacGill and Rob Cheevers
were solid four-quarter performers, with Ben Robbins again desperate in defence.
While the loss is blow to Melton South's hopes of the double chance, the Panthers have now slipped to fourth but cannot be written off as a contender.
There is scope for improvement in Melton South based on this performance, with many of their star players well down.
The Panthers' forward line failed to click, Matthew Sutton was their only effective forward with four goals in the first half, but he faded in the second; Dane Grenfell wasted his limited opportunities, especially in the third quarter and Rob McMahon was practically unsighted.

We cop it at Ballarat for beating weaker sides but Melton South has only beaten Sunbury in the top six and they were depleted. What is happening at south as they flogged us and looked a great side. Are they as soft as the fruitpickers are saying?
Dear Ohhracle,
Thought you might get back on this week...hmmm wonder why? what a difference 7 days can make.
By the way you cop it for being arrogant and up yourselves. Starting from the Pres down. Also its because you dont just beat the weaker sides you FN smash em, except North schitty of course.
I'm not sure if you or Ballarat should be questioning South as being Soft...nudge nudge wink wink. Speaking of Marshmallows, How did Bollied lollies go, I think he got 5...good opposition ?. Only 3 weeks to go and then they can unleash beast.
Da wog??
What a difference 3 weeks makes for the Marsh.
Marsh signs Dion, new 2 year deal making 4 years in all on the back of a 5 year plan.:thumbsu:
Then they play Lakers to get a crack at finals and get smashed, Next week Darley and get another flogging now right out of finals and finally North Schitty and get touched up again (throw in the change of culture, is that the same inicident that happened early?...or is that part of the new culture.:thumbsd:
Someone better tell the marsh there is no Draft or priority picks, you dont need to be tanking games.
Dion will definitely get them fit and that'll be good as those who weren't upto it for the Olympics this year, maybe ready for the Commonwealth games in 2 years, so i can see the plan coming. :)
Apparently there is a little red thing that you need to get hold of at training, rather than just running. Skills for the Marsh might save them some running, as they get extra running on saturdays when they turn it over.;)
Anyway back to my point 4 weeks ago, when we chatted. Why did you rush in and sign him.
Anyway respond in your own time he's not going anywhere for 2 years and 3 games.

I can tell ya now, Ive got a reliable sauce (BBQ) and the marsh are as hot as a 4 'n' twenty at the moment, they are primed for this weeks game and ill tell ya now, they might surprise a few people this week!
The boys want to prove to all there haters on this site that they are true finals contenders in the coming years...
Im as happy as Larry with the boys work ethic and they are really impressing me (Almost as much as a hotdog and some steamed dimmies from Apco at 3am after a big night at the Viper room)

I think this team is spot on. Sharpe i know how much footy you watch and usually agree with your ideas on football but there is no way that Deckert can be overlooked as a starting player in this side. He has been the premier defender all year and has taken the scalps of every good forward in the comp. McMahon had 2 touches this week and Deckert amassed 22 with 3 inside 50's. He held Jordan and has been Darley number 1 tall backmen all year. The rest of the side is very good though and i am sure that each club will have their own personal favourites that they feel are hard done by but this is fairly secure. Great effort this year by Drew Edwards from Darley who has come from an up and down senior/reserves player to a very important pin in Darleys backline. He seems to be very poised with the footy and is the architect of many of Darleys attacks. I also rate Dransman as a ruckman and wont argue with his inclusion. Well done to fat Hutchy for getting in merely on reputation, he hasn't had a touch all year- well not against good sides anyway (and i heard that from an East Point commitee member)
Whos the fat one barnsy!

Great to see Rubens Barachello finally getting the recognition he deserves :thumbsu:.
Chief, I heard you kicked the winning goal on the weekend. I'd love to see this match up between you and Kings Army out at Bullengarook. When is this going to happen? I want to know if I should bring my esky or not. Bourbon for the winner and an Aldi beer for the loser.
I kick goals every week champion. You would love to see this match up between me and KA? Im sure everyone would except for KA, haha- he knows how it would end. I dont drink Bourbon mate- its a poor mans Merlot but Emma Dickson drink it so maybe Bass will bring her along and she can sip a few of your finest mate. Its meant to happen the week after the Henderson which will be Grand Final week. I will set the wheels in motion by getting the devils their first win in September- that i guarantee!!! Im sure KA is smart enough to stay in Gisborne and focus on fixing Charlie Clough's wooden leg or dipping Fitzy's body in water in the hope that it will one day grow.
KA seems to be with sunbury, south, gisborne and riddell ,Does he want a flag or what! Then he should be on your boys ,Haven"t you guys paid the engraver already

What year did Darley fruitpickers and Melton South last win a flag? Out of all the eastern bloc sides since coming in to the BFL, you would have to say Melton has been the most successful while Darley and Melton South would be the least.

I think you'd find sunbury have been the most successful. South haven't won a flag in the BFL made the granny in 2001 and got smashed by Melton. They won the 94 flag in the RDFL.

Charlie Clough passed away from cancer at the start of this year.
Fitzy played in the VCFL team this year. Not certain he needs to grow.

I follow Gisborne in the Bedigo League. Sunbury last year to help out Serge. Riddell in the RDFL.
Darley was $1.80 last week. Coupled them into Gisborne $2.50 for the double. $4.50. Darley are now $1.65 and if Gissy win the next 2 against South and Square will be wound into $2.00. Go devils - sometimes when you win you actually lose!

Souths last and only flag was 94. Darleys last was 95.
Is it true someone from Darley had a fair amount on the Devils at the start of the year, at huge odds? I think Sunba are still a good bet. Even though Devils have been good all year, $1.65 is way too short.

Redan V Sunbury.1st Final
Centre Bounce:
1st half:
Redan started with:
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
6 – Dwyer
33 – Giampolo
They set up like this twice in the 1st half – both at the start of the 1st quarter and the 2nd quarter only!:
Each centre bounce looked like this:
Diagram
The 1st 4 centre bounces had
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
6 – Dwyer
33 – Giampolo
Changed to: for 1 contest
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
4 – Baker
11 – Pitt
Went to:
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
16 – Fields
4 – Baker
Edwards set up in the same spot each time. Dickinson hit the ball towards Sunbury’s goal 9 out of 10 times. They get their best players plus numbers Sunbury side . Carriss and Clarke tried hitting the ball Sunbury’s way so it never went towards Redan’s goal as both ruckman were hitting it the same way.
This week – get touch and feel in the centre – Edwards and Field are to good to stand by themselves. Get the ruckman to be aware of the two on one in front of him – hit side ways or behind him – Dickson will always tried to get it going Sunburys way. Redan even come off the wings to Sunburys side as they know where the ball is going.
2nd quarter – They started again like the 1st set up but with these players in for the 1st 5 ball up. Set rotation – as in the 1st quarter the players that started in the middle stayed there for at least the 1st half of the quarter.
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
6 – Dwyer
16 – Fields
This is how they set up with Fields and Edwards – which these 2 would be there best centre players.
Edwards would always go to the feet of the ruck where fields will either run past the ruckman to the attacking side (very dangerous when he does this) or will drop back behind Edwards. I would put a hard tag on him all day – they look for him. Edwards does a lot of the grunt work but these 2 are the go to players for the ruckman.
6th centre bounce of the 2nd Quarter – Field came out and Giampolo – starting line up again.
18 - Dickinson – ruck
17 – Edwards
6 – Dwyer
33 – Giampolo
2 centre bounces changed to;
18 - Dickinson – ruck
4 – Baker
6 – Field
33 – Giampolo
Baker took Edwards role and went to the contest while Field hung back.
Every centre bounce in the 1st half had either Field or Edwards in. Edwards was in middle for 95% of the 1st half.
Ball ups:
Similar to the centre – the Redan players are very well drilled into working hard to find a designated spot at a bounce. They get an extra player to the contest on 5 of the 7 ball ups and won the majority of these. Work rate? They again set up with more players on Sunbury’s attacking side and the players who set up there are the better ones.
The ruckman again will hit it Sunbury’s way with many times Redan have a 4 on 2 or 3 on 2 situation and then they have option for a quick give or long kick.
A couple of ball ups had 6 Redan players on the defensive side to Sunburys 4. With both ruckman hitting the one way it is only luck for Sunbury to clear. Once again I would go man on man at ball ups – they cannot set up at the back – especially with their good players. Hard tag on Fields and who is on him cannot go to the contest – because the ruckman and other players want to use him at every opportunity.
Throw Ins:
No surprises here – more numbers and the better players to the defensive side – Both ruckman hitting the one way. They have worked out Carriss only goes one way and they are happy for him to get his hand on it 1st. They use number 3 – Ward as a 2nd man up – this is the only time Redan tried to hit the ball forward – definitely a set play as Field and Pitt were moving forward before the ball had been touched. Sammut went to the contest and Field released Pitt. Hard tag on Field
Edwards once again likes to be close to the ruckman. He will start in front or directly behind them.
I number of time they send a player to a designated spot – 1 meter to the defensive side of the ruckman. Someone will sprint to get to that spot as Dickson will try to hit that spot. You can catch them early if you set up numbers on Sunbury’s side – it is a risk but they will go there – or have the same numbers but have a player like Kega on the defensive side moving quickly to the offensive side to be released. Risk – but something needs to change from last time. If you can catch them at this then it may throw them out for a while.
The only 1 time Sunbury had more players to the throw in them cleared it easily. You need your mid fielders to push to each contest and have at least the same amount of players. They also need to be thinking at each contest. Touch and feel – if every one has a player and Redan have someone free at the contest someone is not working.

Roos, Lions battle for second
7/08/2008 11:47:00 PM
WIN and top two beckons. Lose and kiss the double chance in the finals goodbye.
That is the equation as it stands for two of the Ballarat Football League's heavyweights as Sunbury and East Point prepare to slug it out tomorrow at Clarke Oval.
The eastern Lions and the Red Lion Kangaroos sit second and third respectively on the RegionalOne BFL ladder, separated by nothing other than four points "earned" through the bye.
With East Point enjoying a huge advantage in percentage, a win would put the Kangaroos in a near unassailable position in terms of locking away second position.
"It is a massive game," East Point coach Michael Hynes says.
"We win and we go to second, and that's where we will stay and it's much the same scenario for them.
"I think both sides are evenly matched and both are playing good footy at the moment and, with finals ahead, it will be good for us to play at Sunbury on a big, open ground."
All that separated the Lions and the Kangaroos when the two teams met in round three was two seconds - literally the time between the final siren blowing and the ball landing in Sunbury full-forward Matthew Baird's hands.
While Hynes believes the teams will be equally well-matched tomorrow, he says the two teams have undergone quite a few changes since early May.
"You look at the sides last time we played them and what we're playing this week, and you'll see we've got eight different players and they'll have five," Hynes explains. "Keeping in mind last time we played them Lekkas didn't
play and Dan Jordan didn't play, so both sides have two good players who weren't running around last time."
For the Kangaroos, one of this week's changes is forced - important midfielder Adam Jennings is heading overseas and will be unavailable for the remainder of the season.
"It's a massive loss but it will give an opportunity to someone else," Hynes says.
"We've tried a few blokes over the year because we knew that would happen. Whether it is a Jason Delaney or a Sam Van Meel, we will see.
"It's no different really than losing a player to injury just before the finals.
"We're starting to look at balancing the side for finals and this will be another chance to look at that against a genuine top three."
Josh Disher is also unavailable, but only for one week. Jake Fraser returns from a hamstring injury among three changes for the Roos.
Sunbury loses Shaun Neeson and Luke Beattie, both to injury, their absence compensated by the return of Brett Chambers. PREDICTION: Sunbury by one point.
