Found this on the net from a paper about a week ago

``West Coast have offset the loss of Michael Voss to Brisbane by adding former Port Adelaide assistant Phillip Walsh to their revamped AFL coaching staff.

Walsh recently ended his 10-year stay with the Power after a rumoured falling out with Port coach Mark Williams and will become the Eagles' strategy and innovations coach.

Voss, who captained the Lions to three straight premierships, had signed with West Coast until 2010 but abandoned those plans when he was offered the senior coach's position at Brisbane following Leigh Matthews' shock resignation.

Walsh played 122 games with Collingwood, Richmond and Brisbane and was also the strength and conditioning coach at Geelong from 1995-98.''

As a fellow Redan fan, do you know if this is the same Walsh who played with Redan round about 80's sometime? Sounds very much like it - but I was not in Victoria at the time.

Seeing as though us Darley folk only have silly old Oral to talk to about the main game, do you Redan boys (Drummer and Bounce) give our two's any chance this week?

I think we will be a lot better than the 2nd semi.

I'd give your 2's a chance, i think we have the advantage of few extra quality players in Nicholson, Beckham, Miller & Smith who were senior players this year and fortunate enough to qualify for reserves.

I'd be expecting redan to win but don't think it will be easy.

I think you will too. I have really only seen the last quarters of the twos each week (except for the two finals which i saw the whole game) but thay have been pretty consistent through the year if a bit fragile at times.
The addition of Miller from U18's in the ruck due to Kilmartin injury seemed to work well against East and Ricky Cummins had a great game the same day. As yet don't know if Miller gets a berth or not.
Redan has not had big sides for as long as Ive followed them and rely on run-on possession play . This looks good if it comes off but led to some errors in the back half against East in the finals but we were good enough to get over that as we did with Darley.
The defence will need to be tighten and we must not waste scoring opportunities like last game.
It is however only a game of seconds footy and we can't expect the same sort of skills one gets from the seniors _ a bit of luck will probably be involved as well.
If Darley gets over the line it will be a great effort from where they finished (5th?) but I think Redan deserves to be favourites.
Dont know whether it is a good or bad thing for Redan that Darley is fielding two sides _ it might help a bit as Darley will need its best interchange available for the seniors.

I will name names after this week stinga but we will focus more on the footy rather than detailing an erotic encounter that is fit for a Mills and Boon novel. If i were to bet on a game this week then i think the Darley seconds are a better bet than the seniors. I have no doubt that our seniors will win but the Redan Vs Darley final that was played 2 weeks ago was won by 4 goals by Redan. Darley may well field 5 inclusions this week since the last game including Young who kicked 8 in the last 3 games of the regular season in the ones from a wing/half forward, Lesko who was Darleys senior ruckman for most of the year, Kade Sexton who was in the senior BFL team of the year squad, Ross Gundry who has played 7 or 8 senior games this year and Gavin Miller who has basically played seniors all year and is returning for the grand final from injury.

I respect Redan as a group and club alot more than Ballarat (because they have a track record of performing in September) but i think Darleys 2's have too much fire power. Ballarat fade in the seniors too much and are unfit. Otto cant walk at the minute, Nunn drops his head in big games, John Northey has bad skin and is too old and last but not least- WE HAVE BRAD MILLER!!!!
Chief is in, Chief is out- what BFL footballer was caugght doing this after the Henderson???????? Stay tuned for names and details...

Bizarre betting. Before last weeks game Ballarat were $10, and Darley were $1.25. Do they know something I don't? I doubt it.

Darley have eased, without even playing, and with an improved side from the 2nd semi.

Sorry Chumpy your right - no more multies. They proberably don't know enough about the leagues to risk it. Not sure if they are looking at the last Rat V Darley game and think away from home the Rat are a bigger chance. $1.57 is good odds. They may be factoring in the red cards that get brought out in these games. The league would wet themselves if Ballarat win.

I assume you are talking of the mandatory red cards for Eastern sides in Grand Finals. Darley have had 1 all year, which turned out to be an umpire mistake. The Devils know how to cope with the men in orange now, there will be no garbage from us, so hopefully we won't see any red cards and the game is played on a level playing field.

Just don't be surprised. The 2 red cards in 2 years that Sunbury got in the 1st 5 minutes of the game ended up with no suspensions being handed out. Umpire error?
Surely a red card in the Grand Final would have to be a minimum 4 week incident.

Ballarat would be the one team you would not want to play with 17 men. The one thing they have is that they can run.

I may be wrong, but the red card rule now, is that the player is off for 15 mins, and he can not return to the ground. However, he can be replaced after 15 mins. Is that correct?

I have been reading the threads the last couple of days and from what I see the Darley ferals are feeling the pressure! Pathetic excuses already about their impending loss like blaming umpires! The signs are their for the swans! The swans have returned to Lake Wendouree against all odds and come saturday the Swanees will be there with the cup at the end of the day.

Chief devils reserve coach, are you also choking after spuiking dribble for 9 months? I hear your boy miller is sitting in the corner with the lights out, rocking back and forth sucking his thumb as the realisation of the pressure he is under begins to show. A whole town of ferals want a premiership and need something in their no good lives to lay their hat on other than who has done more jail time and who has porked their sister the most.

KA could you give us a dossier with your football expertise at losing grand finals for Sunbury on who will win and why? The match ups key playmakers etc?

What about you drummer you could also give us an analysis?

It’s a shame that the Darley boys will be too busy drinking out of two cups next week to get on here and rub it in Oral. It would have been great to read.

Here’s my analysis, fully fit, with decent umpires, they are a 10 goal better side than you. End of story.

I'll have a crack.

for Darley to win - They have probably been planning this since round 10. They will need to nullify Sewell as when Ballarat win he's generally the reason. If otto goes forward, play a bloke that is willing to continually run up the ground and push otto both ways. If otto goes back, put a defensive forward on him to take him out of the play. He was good last week but i reckon his fitness isn't there. Sewell & Otto are good players and if Darley don't respect that then the swans are a chance. Darley will need to be very physical (but smart) as i see ballarat as being suspect under physical pressure, let Matty Cape loose at first bounce and let it be known Ballarat are in for a tough day. If i was Gary Learmonth i'd start Miller in goal square as Northey would like Miller up the ground where he may hurt you with possessions but not goals. Overall Darley good across every line and there bench i reckon is stronger than ballarats.

for Ballarat to win - Ballarat are defiantely the underdogs but that could go in there favour as Darley have everything to lose and Ballarat have nothing to lose. Mark Nunn is a big game player, Deckart should get first crack at him and will be good to see them 2 going at it. For Ballarat to kick a winning score i reckon they will need to go with a small forward line, if Ricky Allan can produce the form he was in early in season & harkin pops up for 3 or 4 goals then ballarat just might be in the hunt. There midfield needs a 4 quarter effort to go up against the gun midfield of Darley. McGregor has to pull his finger out and stop only having 5 minute impacts on a game. Whether it is A.Nunn or Otto, whoever plays on Newman will have to play a blinder, keep him to 1 or 2 goals and the swans can win. Lastly, how do the stop one B.Miller??? The answer, throw the captain Baker on him, he probably cop 100 punches in the head but i reckon he'll be the only one mentally tough to play on the man.

Overall -

Darley to good and to win by 6-7 goals.

IMO Only

Big call if they leave him out.

He's a kid who's 17. And nothing phases him. I watched him against sunbury and he made Little & Carriss look silly gathering possessions at will and winning nearlly every tap out?

Darley 2's wouldn't know much about him which is a added bonus. Big call on the kid!

The whole team made Sunbury look silly that day: I also saw the game. Six goals to zip in Q1 _ game over!!!
Beckham has been pretty good but too small for key forward. In an ideal side he would be an ideal forward pocket. Id like to find a way to get a tall into that forward line

Short, sharp and to the point and personally I think is spot. If the Devils play to their potential for four quarters than the Swans have little hope.

If the Swans do catch Darley napping than they had better make the most of the chance, can't afford even one slip up

I almost threw up when I read todays Courier.

Mark "Head Drop" Nunn says he plays better when he gets some verbal abuse from the sidelines.

Quote from the Courier - "For whatever reason, they like to get stuck into me in particular. I've got no doubt they'll do it again but I reckon it actually makes me play a bit better."

You have done nothing against Darley this year in 3 losses, I would hate to see how bad you are when you are not getting abused.

Oracene, Oracene, Oracene shouldn't you be at Indian Wells or some other obscure place in USA supporting your daughters in the WTA? With your fashion tips they still look as skanky as ever on the court. What with your big golden cornrows and their taste in bling, you might be the most kitsch dysfunctional family ever. You certainly are the "loudest" mother. Living off your daughters earnings you should be ashamed of yourself.
You still find time to get on here and type jive that everyone else laughs at.
I need to know how big was Richard? He must have been huge because even though you are a loudmouth and dress like poop 30 years ago you may have looked ok. But Richard I cannot see him ever looking great. So I am assuming he flashed his wand at you and you got smitten. You have KISSED that man Oracene, how could you have lowered yourself to that level.

The best and most logical posting has this has come from the neutrals. Too many of the Darley posters are living in the gutter. Seriously guys, your team is red hot favourite (with just cause, the Devils have been superb) and if they win Darley would've completed one of it's best season's ever. Darley fans don't need to resort to gutter tactics, Darley has talked the talk and walked the walk this year.

THE coaches have done as much as they can. Now it is the players' job to win the day.
So says Ballarat coach John Northey as the Swans look ahead to tomorrow's Ballarat Football League grand final against Darley at the Eastern Oval.
Northey, the most experienced coach in the BFL and arguably the most experienced in country footy, said he had done as much as he could to prepare his players for the match.
Now the players would be left to their own devices until they turn up tomorrow before the biggest game of the year.
"They are on their own until they arrive at the ground on Saturday. Personally there isn't much more I can do," Northey said.
"There won't be any more team meetings. Everyone is aware of what they need to do, and I don't want to put too much artificial pressure on the players."
Ballarat's final training session at Dahlsens Park last night was a light one.
The Swans made one change to the team that bolted from the blocks and then held on to win against East Point in last weekend's preliminary final. Brad Anderson returns from injury, while Josh Cook is the unfortunate Swan
to miss out.
"Brad has had four weeks (away from football) so we know he's okay," Northey said.
"The last week training has been light. We've only concentrated on the ball handling."
Darley made three changes to the team that won the second semi final against Ballarat a fortnight ago at Darley Park.
The return of Adrian Newman and Rob Cheevers from injury, and Darren Leonard's return from the Western Jets, has meant Gavin Miller, Clinton Young and young ruckman Mark Lesko have missed out on a place in the senior
team.
Darley has won all three matches between the two teams this season, although Ballarat has been ahead well into the second quarter on all three occasions.
The Devils won the second semi final by 17 points but had three fewer scoring shots.
Regardless of the outcome, a premiership drought will end for one of the two teams. Ballarat has not won a premiership since 1988, while Darley is yet to win a premiership since it entered the Ballarat Football League in 1997.
While Darley is the highest finishing team this season in that it won its way into the grand final by beating Ballarat in that semi final, Devils coach Gary Learmonth was not unhappy the match would be played at Ballarat's
Eastern Oval.
"For us, the Eastern Oval is the best ground in the league," Learmonth said. PREDICTION: Darley by 13 points.

I may be wrong, but the red card rule now, is that the player is off for 15 mins, and he can not return to the ground. However, he can be replaced after 15 mins. Is that correct?

I think that is so but not sure of the time before replacement - 15 mins sounds right. I'll check it out
The rule has been brought in for a number of leagues after some controversy with GF in Geelong and Warnambool where players were sent off and the report was later thrown out. In one of the incidents I understand the result of the game was decided by less than a goal after the club played for nearly a half with only 17 men.

I dont think it matters because as Darley's Ressies and Seniors play on the same day they can play anyone in either side.

Today's grand final was one of the most exciting BFL games I've ever seen, an instant classic.

Congratulations to Ballarat on a superb victory, Ash Baker will now forever be etched in the folklore of the Ballarat FC, certainly something to tell the grandkids about, of course by that stage it will a goal kicked from 75-metres out not the 45-metres it actually was! :D

If as a true footy fan you couldn't get excited about that game then you don't really like footy.

Unfortunatley the day was soured by the all-in brawl at three quarter time. Very quiet on here today - Darley thought they had two flags in the bag and ended up with... how many was it? Ah yes.... NONE.
I'm sure the majority of Darley people at the ground would have been just as disgusted with the few who acted like feral pigs for most of the day (but I suppose we had to expect that).
I sat in the grand stand during the twos with a group of Darley people who were just normal footy fans supporting their club as I was. They were disappointed but took the loss with good grace.
I hope that the club can find a way to weed out the bad element that is giving it a bad name. Good luck with that!
A good job by Redan in the twos. They deserved to be favourite and won by the appropriate amount after a slowish start. A good night on Saturday and yesterday at The Den was enjoyed bal all. Well done to Jarrod Edwards for winning the Dalton-Bayly trophy for club best and fairest from Matt Pitt and Sam Giblett, both of whom had great seasons.
Once the Darley posters wake up from their two-day hangover, I suppose the excuses will start and everyone will be blamed but themselves.
Umpires, timekeepers will cop it but you cant get away from the fact that bad kicking is bad football.
Still I need a laugh

Darley let it slip they had the game under control until 3/4 time and a brain fade by there captain has cost them. Miller was playing well until that point after being able to control himself all year he lost the plot with 30mins off football left for the year!!
The chiefs favorites player Minnsy had 1 kick for day could have been the hero with it, but blew it! Another one of the chiefs boys Drew Edwards got absolute pants in the 1st qtr by Otto. Darley lost this game in the 1st qtr when thery dominated play and kicked 8 points it could have been all over at 1/4 time.

I think so KA. Darley didn't play smart footy in the final minutes, were in front but continued to rush and turn the footy over. Thought the experienced heads of Cape, Guerra, Stephensen would have took control and settled the flow.

No that was Mcgill 20-25m out on a slight angle. Minns miss was half way through the last qtr 15m - 20m out directly in front would have put them 3 goals up i think.

Watched the GF on the weekend and it was the first time that I had seen either team. I was there to watch a freind from Darley so I took more notice of them than the Ballarat players. I thought that Darleys best player was clearly Edwards (21) and that Robbins, Doyle, Deckert and Cape also played well.

Enjoyed the game but i thought the move that may have cost the match was Newman to the backline in the last qtr. It seemed clear at 3/4 time that Darley would need to kick a few goals in the last to hold the lead and they got plenty of forward entries but there was really no target to kick to and the ballarat defenders cleaned up all qtr. Although Newman was really only handy for most of the day he did split plenty of packs and provide a contest which allowed the smaller players to kick a few goals.

Number 2 from Ballarat played a fairly handy game in the backline.

Well done Ballarat!

was right infront of it, it was a bit of push and shove and then miller got a hold of him (cant remember the number) picked him up and choke slamed him straight out on his back then all the other players ran in.....then supporters and then the law enforcement...

a few points....

darley should have had at least 8 goals on the board at qtr time = game over!
cheevers injured early didnt help!

i dont intend to stir up or anything, but why did the last qtr go for 35 minutes when only 2 goals were scoreD?

but i'm not saying ballarat were not deserving of it well done to them a good win....

There is an old Saying that you can't play injured players in finals.
Chevers shouldn't have played with that hamstring & Newmans shoulder probably wasn't a 100%

The devils missed vital shots in the last term from 20-30 out. Kyle Doyle played an awesome game for a 17 year-old. Tuddy Edwards was easily Darleys best. Darren Leonard, also 17, played a handy game. Cape and Deckert were good aswell.

Miller needed to keep a cool head during the brawl at 3-QT. Him and D.Young let the team down with there send-offs. The older, experienced players should have shown some leadership during the fight.

Once again, there was a pack of young devils fans on the Alcohol near darleys bench being idiots and giving it to the Ballarat supporters whenn the devils were in front & giving the club a bad name.

Need to keep Chevers, Edwards & Newman for next year to have another shot. Heard a rumor they were chasing Lee Cox from hepburn

In the reserves game, darley had to deal with some shocking umpire decisions. On one ocassion Gav Miller ran about 5 steps with the ball & got done for running to far! I am guessing they were ballarat umpires.Dion Lea, Ross Gundry, Shannon Mcdonald were darleys best. The darley 2nds have had a awesome season, coming from nowhere to reach the grandfinal. Not bad for a team who has there seniors in the granny too. Well done to Tank and the boys

All in All a great season from devils. Carn the Devils 2009

It's time for the highly anticipated (not really but gotta pump up my own tyres) grand final player rankings.

It was a remarkable contest and for mine it was noteable for the fact that a single player or group of players who dominated the contest, it was a game full of honest four quarter performances.

OK here I go, I'm sure everyone will disagree with me but i'll give it a shot

Ballarat

8
Aaron Brennan - good solid game in the ruck
Mark Nunn - presented really well and was consistent throughout. His battle with Shaun Deckert was a highlight.
Nigel Otto - his first quarter was vital in keeping the Swans in touch early.

7
Chris Thornton - liked his game, thought he had a super finals series
Ash Baker - will always be remembers for the that goal but had a pretty good day on top of that.
Adam Sewell
Corey Grills

6
Aaron Nunn
Wil McGregor
Sam Harkin - scored some important goals at key moments of the game
Nathan Anderson
Tristan May
Josh Caldow

5
Sam Caldow
Bowen Harvey
Matthew McVilly
Daniel Thompson

4
Joe Otto - didn't have a huge impact
Brad Anderson - losses points for a yellow card

3
Mark Cunningham - very quiet

1
Ricky Allan - didn't realise he was playing until he collected his premiership medal. Had a shocker but at least he didn't miss from 20-metres out

Darley
7
Jarrod Edwards
Chris McGill - good game but may be haunted by his late miss
Brent Smithwick - worked hard to create space, was probably underutilised by Devils who tended to be overly Newman-centric.
Travis Stephenson - battled hard in the ruck
Shaun Deckert - as I mentioned earlier his battle with Mark Nunn was a highlight.

6
Matthew Cape
Lachlan Herring
Darren Leonard - didn't have a huge first half but his efforts in the third term helped kickstart the Devils

5
Drew Edwards - Pants early by Nigel Otto but improved as the game went on
Brad Miller - didn't have his usual impact. Did some good things but loses points for the yellow card
Adrian Newman - looked rusty at times. Tried to break open the packs but wasted too many opportunities
Ben Robbins
Luke Guerra
Jarryd King
Kyle Doyle - super young talent who had a shocker in the first half, looked like the occassion got the better of him. Once settled after half time showed his real ability.

4
Travis Edwards
Adam Bell

3
Leigh Freestone
David Young -little impact, got a yellow card, forgettable finals series overall
Travis Minns - extremely quiet and the less said about that miss the better

2
Rob Cheevers - his day was over by half time after breaking down again. His class was sorely missed after half time.

Have seen the 3 qtr time incident on replay. Some shocking decisions by the umpires. Started with Brad Anderson smothering Miller's kick as the siren had sounded, Miller was frustrated and threw a backhander into Anderson's back. Anderson turned around, then Miller grabbed Anderson by the throat, squeezed him and then slammed him into the ground. He was reported for rough conduct, which was spot on. Anderson layed there for the entire incident that followed, and somehow was sent off by the umpires. Played absolutley no part in anything and the send off could have cost Ballarat the premiership. What followed was very hard to see, bodies everywhere and a lot of punches being thrown. Newman seemed to be very much into it, as did some Ballarat players, but they escaped penalty. Still can't work out how they decided to send off Anderson. A Darley player was reported for striking Josh Caldow in the melee, and Caldow was on the bench and 80m from the spot where it happened the entire time? Most likely will get thrown out.
It terms of the game, the difference between the two captains could not be clearer. One loses his head, displays absolute stupidity and costs his team dearly. The other plays his heart out and single-handedly (and with his trusty left-boot aswell) delievers the Swans its first flag in 20 years.
A quick comment on the Darley "supporters". An absolute disgrace. Fans running around the opposition huddle with flags, being encouraged by the rest of the crowd, showing absolutley zero respect to anyone. Another punched M.Nunn in the stomach during the fracas at 3/4 time and was swiftly taken away by police. Got exactly what they deserved, and exactly what everyone in Ballarat hoped for. Cheevers was disgustingly selfish for playing, and then refusing to come off when clearly he had re-injured his dodgy hamstring. All about himself and wanted to be the hero, when he should have sat out and let a fit player perform. Have to wonder what his fitness test involved during the week, it was clear from the beginning that he was nowhere near his best, which was crucial because he carved up Ballarat late in the year. Every mistake Darley made fell into Ballarat's hands and gave them the slight chance they needed, and Baker made the most of it! What an amazing day...
Congrats to Ballarat and John Northey, silenced all those critics that had written them off as soft and chokers. In 100 years time they will still be premiers in 2008. Darley, Miller and all there supporters will be nowhere to be seen.
