Certainly couldn't be described as a top recruiting decision, and he was probably at least a little bit unlucky. But basically if you're tearing sides apart, you tend to get cut a bit of slack. He wasn't, so he needed to be spot on with his attitude. He wasn't.

How do you know his attitude wasn't spot on?

Was this reported up in QLD or something? It seems very strange that a 1st round pick who is about 6.4" would only be given 2 years on an AFL list.

He was never worth a 1st round pick.

Beatson took a punt on a big kid and it didnt work out. It was a high risk pick.

Keep in mind no other club picked him up in the 2005 draft or even rookie listed him. Dud.

That's the line that came thru from a number of Suncoast sources.

I also think the club decided very early after the season's end they were highly likely to get 2 of either Pat Ryder, Mitch Clark, Wayde Mills and Austin Lucy -- they got Clark and Mills in the end. With a few new big project kids coming in, Merrett developing nicely and Paddy Garner coming along well, there weren't the normal 'he's got huge potential' positions for a big athletic kid there may be at other clubs and other years.

Billy Morrison and Llane Spanderman had the same problems. Both late 1st round punts, both key forwards. Both had trouble adjusting to being on an AFL list and had a query over attitude (Billy had a great attitude in the junior leagues but once he hit the big city he lost it). None really impressed in their first 2 years so were delisted.

While everyone knows that the big guys take longer to develop, you need to show potential coupled with a work ethic. Spaanderman had a little of the former but none of the latter.

Work ethic is a huge factor in being kept, for a big guy.
