Having problems finding a link to the story, but did anyone else hear about the Southport and Broadbeach players continuing their on field rivarly in a local nightspot on the weekend.

Should make for an interesting on field game:eek:

I did hear about that one but haven't read it anywhere.

Mate if you are playing Seniors in the VFL expect to be able to make the qld state league team. Clubs will bend over backwards for any player with VFL experience. I would head to Morningside or Southport, both clubs are always pretty close to the mark.

morningside 10 11 71 def mt gravatt 7 8 50 i think the score was. i went and watched the game. it wasnt the most skillfull game but it was a good game for the first game of the preseaon. i couldnt tell you who were best players because there wasnt many standouts. just a good first up performance by a young morningside team

Went and watched sandgate V caboolture yuesterday. Sandgate looked quite rusty but seem to have a younger pacy team.Their seniors got up by about 5 goals but lost two players to injury. Ressies played with only 2 man bench against 6 man bench for caboolture and got up by 3 goals. Seeing Caboolture has had trials they had a little more team unity on the field. Highliught was number 14 from Sandgate in the ressies who was confronted by a caboolture player trying to land two useless punches on him. The caboolture player was third man in on a jersey grabbing incident between said sandgate player and a caboolture player and tried throwing two useless punches before copping three right straighties to the snozz from #14 whilst with his left, he was still holding onto the other caboolture players guernsey, classic. I guess on those results and the ones Caboolture had against maroochy/northshore last week, sandgate may be alittle in front of Maroochy/northshore in both grades

I wouldn't read too much into, Maroochy were nowhere near full strength the other week and didn;t have bench at all (some ressies backed up). Considering the heat, i think most of the boys opted for the beach rather then a trek down to Caboolture.
The Roos play Noosa in a scratch match next week which should give a better indication of how both the Coast teams are travelling.

I know Aspley are playing Sandgate at Graham Rd this weekend and pretty sure Coolangatta takes on Palm Beach. Mate it depends on what teams you refer to. I would say there are probably 4-5 teams in Division two seniors that would beat all Division 1 Reserves but it is hard to say man.

Not sure there are too many teams in Div 2 who would beat the top 4 in Div 1 Ressies.

Palm Beach would go alright, however we should remember many of Palmy's better players were fringe senior players at Broady.

Wests 1's would go OK, but we should remember that an "un-named" Wests star had a crack with Zillmere at the start of last year and found it too hard.

Aspley have a number of ex-Eagles fringe players (as well as Mugga's, Evans and Ward) in their better players and made it to the Prelim Final.

I think Div 1 Ressies is a lot harder than some give it credit for, particulalry when you look at Vultures, Eagles, Sharks and Panthers two's.

Sorry if I confused you - I was referring to AFLQ State League Reserves as being better than Pineapple Hotel Cup.

If you refer to the AFLQ website they refer to the State League Div 1 (i.e. Southport, Morningside, Mt Garvatt, etc) and to State League Div 2 (i.e. Aspley, Palm Beach, etc).

The Wynnum Vikings being in State Association Div 1 are effectively playing what might be referred to as Div 3.

Evo has been a wonderful player and still is at this level, as was Muggsy and Wardy, however it's the majority of the other 19 who are not up to the next level.

That's what I thought you meant - in that case I repeat that Velocity Cup Ressies is a better overall standard than Pineapple Cup Seniors. Generally, VC Ressies have younger, fitter players who play a more open game of football and many are battling for spots at the next level.

P/apple Cup has a number of players who for a number of reasons either can't make the grade at VC level or can't commit the time required to be fit enought to play at VC level. Generally an "older" group and more congested game.

"Now I will sit back and watch the games begin!" :D

I think it'll be a case of him playing as a top-up player for Suncoast on the weekend. Suncoast probably would've been a bit light on for numbers what with the seniors having played in Canberra, so best to get even numbers to make it a competitive game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Suncoast are made up of Lions-listed players, Sunshine Coast juniors and occasionally top-up juniors from around the state as situations dictate.

correct. morningside played the suncoast lions 3 times last yeam. the siders won twice. but the first game they had 12 listed players. the next game we played them they had 16. than the next time the 10. imo i would like to see it a set limit and maybe the players that dont play should be shifted out to other clubs. thats just my opinion.

Damo, I believe the Sydney Swans reserves have a new agreement like that with Weston Creek in the ACTAFL this year. I think the Swans are allowed only 15 listed players at any time in a bid to try and even up the comp. No one seems to be able to get close to them, which is a bit different in this case, as the Suncoast Lions aren't really killing it up here. I know of 4 of our young PNG boys from Cooly that played regularly for Suncoast last year that would take up between 2-4 spots in the side most weeks.

dont wory i havw seen those cooly boys play for cooly. the first time i saw them play for cooly. they single handedly kept them in the game just about. 15 players, no i would rather 13 or 12. what ever players that dont get picked can still play in the same comp that weekend for a different team. like it use to be back in the day. thats just my opinion.

Hey Homer, not too bad, I played pretty poor and hurt my shoulder but the team went alright. We played their seniors in the first half and got pumped by a bit, and played the two's in the second half, probably won by 3 or 4 goals.

Hey guys I'm just trying to book some tickets for next Friday at the Gabba, but not real sure what the different seating categories(Category 1, 2 or 3 and unlicensed) mean. Does unlicensed mean its a no alcohol area? Any help would be appreciated :)

I always get the cheap seats, I think they are category 3.... Around in the forward pocket where the old social club used to be, easy to see on tv... Basically, 50 out on the left hand side of the tv screen, opposite the camera.

$20-$25 a pop. Leaves plenty of drinking money if you get licensed seats. The unlicensed are god knows where.

Thanks for the help guys, where do you buy your tickets from Homer? The cheapest ones I can find are $38 which are Category 3 unlicensed, so that rules them out if theres no drinking, the next cheapest are category 2 ($46 ), plus you have to pay an extra $3.95 to print them out at home or $6.95 to collect them. Bloody dear up here.

Unlicensed are on the southern wing, round sections 28-26. I'm sure there are other sections too.

I sit right on the edge of 29, on the border between licensed and unlicensed. So while I am able to drink, I tend to watch my behavior due to the close proximity of children. You notice the occasional father stealthily work his way over the border occasionally to down a quick cold one. :D

Next Wednesday the cheapies come out. Every Wednesday of a Gabba match, ticketek has these seats available.

They suit me, as with study and the like I only get to 6-7 games a year, and can decide closer to game day, and I can still support my club, and have a country membership. The world works :thumbsu:

Sounds about right in regards to the stealthy fathers. See the occasional occurrence in the licensed area that go along with a mate and their kids and one mate will 'go to the toilet', only for me or one of my group to be standing behind him at the bar. :p

Gotta love footy season!

Cooly defeated Burleigh @ Burleigh on Saturday night

i wouldnt say too many surprises, i think everybody knew that the games on Friday and Sunday were going to be close, the game on Saturday Afternoon was going to be a blow out and the Saturday Night game couldnt have swung either way due to the unknown element of both sides. i only saw Sundays GF replay and it was an absolutely cracker of a game in some very difficult conditions. at the other end of the difficult conditions scale, i heard that the Friday night game was really good as well.

did anybody else get to some games this weekend?

i suppose one of the big surprises in the PHC is that the PBC and Magpie match was very close ...

Great to see Sandgate get up with a win and Mayne were very competitive against the mighty Hornets. Bit surprised with Wilston Grange's effort, thought they might have won. Anyway seems the whole
PHC comp is getting bigger and better.

The Sandgate/Maroochy game was a nailbiter. Sandgate dominated the first half and held onto a six goal lead at three quarter time only to see the Roos mow it down and hit the lead with a couple of minutes left. Sandgate then kicked the winner (and I think their only goal for the quarter) on the siren to take the cookies.
I guess time will tell whether these two have improved over the off season.

The deal with the Swan reserves tyeam is 13 listed players. They have no agreement with Weston Creek now as the creek have folded. Swans will be strong still but may struggle when senior players suffer long term injuries.

Yeah, I noticed that about a day after i posted. How do Tuggers seem to be going at the moment will they'll survive past this year?

I thought that a lot of their players and 2 of their coaches went to Caboolture.
Which may explain a few things, sad for the local greange team if thats the case.

Don Barry, Gus Bede, Des Waluka, Dave Evertius, Emma Wartovo, and another couple play at Coolangatta. John James i believe is playing at Zillmere this year.

All are excitement machines

Hi Guys - as a new member to this site and as you seem to be well informed could you please tell me is there anywhere on this site or others that show player movements i.e signings etc for players in the AFLQ Velocity cup seniors?

Numbers are good and there juniors are outstanding. U18 won the grand final last year. The problem for Tuggers is financial. The rumour is the coach has offered his services for free this year. Doesnt look great for them but funny things happen in footy
