Brisbane Lions forward Jonathan Brown has undergone minor knee surgery and will be sidelined for the next two-to-six weeks.

Brown was operated on to remove a cyst on his lateral meniscus on Monday.

The cyst on the cartilage in his right knee had not prevented Brown from training at full speed, but was causing him some mild discomfort and he was unable to get maximum distance with his kicking.

2-6 weeks? A big difference between losing 2 weeks and 6 weeks in pre-season training. If he loses 6 weeks, there's no way he'll be at peak fitness for round 1.

Let's hope it's nearer the former. Sounds like he's not going to be fully fit until a few rounds in. Which means he'll struggle throughout the year again probably ...... :(

He's running well, so the adductor release has done its job.

No, I disagree. I got the impression that it wasn’t causing a whole lot of major trouble, but the surgery still took place to minimize any chance of any distraction. The operation was just a safe choice; nip-it-in-the-bud kinda thing.

Although it’s not the ideal start for the team, I think Browny missing a few weeks is much more bearable than the worse.

Star Brisbane Lions forward Jonathan Brown remains hopeful of lining up in the NAB Cup opener against Essendon later this month on the Gold Coast despite undergoing surgery last week to remove a cyst from his knee.

Following the procedure, Brown's recovery was tipped to take six weeks, but the Lions powerhouse told afl.com.au he was hoping to be back in four.

"Six weeks would be the absolute top end of the recovery, but it would be closer to a month," a confident Brown declared.

Same here. But I hope the pressure doesn’t overwhelm him. People would be watching very closely and a small slip equals a ten thread dedicated on how over hyped hes is. And oh yeah, how Tredrea is a better player, too :thumbsu:

Weird how that guy didn't reply after I tried to point out Colingwood's very generous offer. Maybe he's still digging through the pile of stats?

I think Brown puts more pressure on himself than anyone or anything outside even could. So I can't see it being a problem. We went to the AFL shop this morning to look for new jumpsuits for the twins and saw Browny talking to a lady that works there with her baby in tow. He's such a big kid hey. The little kid (maybe 1yo - 18months) was just staring up giggling at him from her stroller and he was chatting away to her/him. He gave us a wave and his trademark wink with the 'howz it goin?'............Gawd I can't wait for footy to start again!
