Someone explain to me why this guy needs to have another 'rest' on Sunday.
This CA policy of resting players is fast becoming a joke.

Based on those figures, maybe he's been omitted.
He's having one week off, I dont see anything wrong with that really. Gilly is more than capable of leading Australia when Punter's not there, and hes just come off 3-4 months of non-stop cricket so why shouldnt he get a rest. These guys train day in day out aswell as play and i for one think that if they think they require the rest then fine.

I think we should allow Ricky 'I average 60 in Test cricket' Ponting whatever, whenever he wants.

It's not as if we're being hammered without players who are being rotated, so there's nothing to worry about.

Mate, can you post without swearing.

Hes captain of the Australian cricket team- and the cricket team is playing this Sunday without him. I do find something wrong with that.

Well Sri Lanka beat us last Sunday, and we only won in Adelaide with 9 balls to spare. And Bracken will be heading home to Sydney this weekend too. I find it ridiculous that we are resting players under these circumstances.

You obviously didnt read my post before you commented.
Go back and check out his scores over the past month. And then tell me whether he has given us heaps.

Sorry, discussing this topic irritates me greatly.

If it's good enough for Man U to play 3rd XI's during their League Cup/Mickey Mouse games or whatever, it's good enough for Australia.
I'd rather have Ponting make tons in Tests than play games which are a foregone conclusion.

So resting Ponting in tomorrows match means he is going to make centuries in the South African tour tests??
How do you figure that?

Might give him a proper rest, freshen him up.
Cricketers play alot these days. Far too many of these ODI bollocks games.

He is captain, and looking at his form before this little lean patch I think he truly deserves it. Seeing as the cricket schelude is jam packed, he should get a game off and then come back fresh for the finals.

I'm pretty sure everyone values there wicket, and Ricky averages 52 against the Indians.
While Rahul averages 48 against the Australians.

who gives a fat rats clacker about dravid. this thread is about the legendary punter.
they are all professional cricketers, so punter should be playing. i haven't seen him turn out for tassie too much in recent years , so there's his break.
fronting up for approx. 15 tests and 30 odi's a year(and 3 20/20's) equates to 105 days of cricket. 21 working weeks and plenty of money to go with it and plenty of rest and sightseeing. also how many tests run for the whole 5 days and how much time is lost because of rain, especially in england. punter you have had plenty of rest son, go get out there and give the perth fans some entertainment.
surely he can rest in tour matches etc, but he owes it to the public, especially the people of perth as its the only odi the aussies are playing there.

you'd be amazed. there was a recent poll on our fave tri-series in australia and people have quite good memories. so we'll remember alright, we just may not care of the final result. the best team doesn't always necessarily win tri-series comps.

Because the ACB has no respect for cricket supporters in Adelaide and Perth. Simple really. It's funny how the top players get rested whenever the one-day show comes to Adelaide and Perth. And people wonder why I couldn't give a fat rat's clacker about the limited over game.
