Is Tony Greig getting ready to leave Channel 9 ? (We can only hope !)
Seems the only logical explanation for last nights performance, Channel 9 are auditionng replacements for the time-honoured Lawry v Greig sideshow.
Whatever Bill said was immediately contradicted by Heals, and vice versa.. was actually quite entertaining, but certainly unexpected as Healy in particular has never carried on like that before..
Any thoughts ?

Maybe a bit off feeling left over from Heals impersonation of Bill on the cricket show during the SCG test.
"Get a Victorian in there"
Also, Tony Greig fired a couple over the bow at Bill Lawry during Tony's stint with slats near the end of the match.
Tony Greig:- What about Bill Lawry, The corspe with pads.
All good stuff.

All in good fun.
Nothing hostile.
Who wouldn't love Bill Lawry.

Heals has become quite Anti-Australian in the last few weeks, maybe he'll be taking over Greigys spot
I thought that i noticed a bit of niggle between heals and tony... Everything heals would say, Tony would interupt him and say the opposite....

As much as Tony Greig is disliked i think there will be more than just a tinge of sadness when the likes of Lawry, Richie, Greigy and Chappelli retire from the box.
Really, they can never be replaced.

The one I noticed was when Bill was creaming himself over Gilly. At one point, Gilly hit a cover drive, on the up to a deep cover.
Bill was beside himself 'oh what a shot' as the ball went to the fielder in the deep.
Heals bit back with 'you're kidding Bill...it was mistimed' or something to that effect.

That was the lofted cover drive to the fielder in the deep.

No, what happened was Murali spun a massive off break past the edge of Gilly's bat and Lawry goes "Well bowled and well played" as Bill thought that Gilchrist had withdrawn his bat inside the ball once he realised it was a massive turner, when it fact Gilly had just been beaten fair and square.
Healy goes "Your kidding bill, it beat the edge" or words to that effect.

I know it won't be the same when any of the four mainstays leave Channel 9, but the one I think I'll miss the most is Bill Lawry. He is the life of the party in terms of the commentary.

He only quit because the channel he worked for, CH4 lost the rights to show the cricket and Richie didn't want to work for a pay tv channel so he retired from all commentary in England.
I have a feeling Richie's contract with 9 might run out next summer after the Ashes or the summer after that.
When that occurs i would say it is a fair bet that the great man will retire and i suspect Bill Lawry would follow.

No one got upset when Frank Tyson, Stacky and Max Walker went. Definitely not when Greg Chappell went.
The 12th man did in Max's case though.

Heard that too. Sounded like an old couple constantly disagreeing on everything. Heals was saying that they should give Gilchrist a rest and bat him at number 7, and Lawry was saying that people pay to see Gilchrist, so he should open.

I don't mind if Benaud, Lawry and Chappell stick around, I just want Greig to go. I can't stand him.

I don't think anyone likes Greig really. He's like the Channel 9 version of Boycott or Botham.

Botham is alright and so is Boycott when England are not playing Australia.
But, when we played England last year they were shocking.
Boycott is annoying and his laughing at Australia's misfortune got up my goat and Botham is nothing but a loud-mouth pom.
Chappelli should have wacked him all those years ago.

is slats now full time on the 9 comm team?
and are they rotating and taking games off??
i didn't hear chappelli the other day and also no bill in one game either.
Slater - "This guy is a great of fielding" (Symonds)
Grieg - "Not even in the same league as Rhodes"
Thats why we love him :)

I think Slats might be on a part time deal or a scaled down version of what the other commentators are on.
Has anyone heard Slats on ABC radio after he has started commentating on Ch 9?
One thing is for sure he is one of the best media commentators on cricket in the world.
He has a very reasuring and relaxing voice and he knows a hell of a lot about the modern game and the traditions and players of the past.
Not afraid to dish it out either.

Maybe his doing a trial for practise for a future job at nine or maybe he is just a freelance commentator.
Lot's of people rate him as a commentator and obviously Ch 9 have seen potential there and i wouldn't be surprised to see him replace richie or lawry or anyone who decides to retire.
He might even be on a part time deal, who knows.

Heals has become quite Anti-Australian in the last few weeks,
I'm still trying to work out if that was a joke. The only time Healy ever criticises Australia is when he gets a chance to stick the boots into the keepers, which, besides being a biased Aussie, seems to be his second favourite annoying commentary trait.

Everything gets taken out of porportion when the commentators have a little dig at each other. During the game they would all be sitting out the back carrying on and having a good time.
Its just like brayshaw and lyon etc, there all just good mates poking a bit of fun at each other every now and then. LIVING LEGENDS!
