Are you guys happy you have him? When Richmond landed him I thought he would have a much bigger impact in 05, he has the talent and strength to become anything so where do you see him in 06 and behond?

i think he will play in the ruck alot more, towards the end of last season he really dominated there so hopefully he can continue that form coming into this season

Champion, will win at least 2 Brownlows in the next 4 years.

LOL
I think if he is played mainly in the Ruck he will be a very good player for us in 2006 and beyond :thumbsu:

yeah he is a ruck who can rest forward not a forward who can ruck. let him ruck and roll.

has taken him a while to adjust to moving back to melbourne and going to a new club with a new coach so nothing was expected of him. 2wards the end of the year he started playing well and in 2006 i reckon he will play a big role for us in ruck and down forward, just gotta hope he can be consistant
if the guy could kick straight he would of had a great season - no sarcasm
just missed shots at crucial times and i think that made him look worse than what he really was.
i think him and knobel ruck with stafford full forward is the way to go

good point plsc. he would have had a handy bag of goals at the end of the year if he had kicked more than half of them.
i think him and knobel ruck with stafford full forward is the way to go
IMO Simmonds and Stafford should swap in the ruck and whoever isn't rucking plays up forward. Knobel can be Coburg's ruckman

NO... staff shouldnt go near ruck anymore.. was doing fine last year till he went in the ruck.. keep him up forward and use knobel and simmo in the ruck, graham can be coburgs ruck:thumbsu:

i agree, staff should play forward and only used in ruck in an emergency.

It was his first year at a new club, so he would have been a bit nervous being accepted by the fans and he dropped the occasional mark and kicked the occasional shocker. But he should play with more confidence this season and he will be a very good player hopefully. He needs to time his leads and use his body properly in contests

I think differently, I reckon Stafford had some good games there and he will be our 2nd ruckmen with Simmonds playing 75% of a quarter. Stafford will be mainly a forward but will ruck when Simmonds needs a rest

Knobel and Simmonds to do the ruck and Staff up forward ;)

He wants to ruck and probably is better as a ruckman than CHF.
However, that leaves a gaping hole at CHF that can't be easily filled. We don't have any kids that are ready to take that spot this year unless someone has really bulked up over the preseason.

Stafford should key forward.

Fine, but FF or even FP. I don't think CHF is the right position for him, nor do I want Richo at CHF.

staff can ruck for us only if we want him to only play a few games, his body simply cant handle it anymore

Play a mobile CHF then, Simmonds/P Bowden types.
Richo out of the square. Staff FP.
IMO Stafford is somewhat underrated. Good forward target, got abit of angry about him, 100kg+ 200cm+

For once we are on the same wavelength! However, I think Simmonds will be starting ruck leaving us with a dummy CHF that could be any of Brown, Deledio or even Hall (I don't want to expose a kid to CHF too early).
browny is going to be full forward next to staff and richo will be chf next to guys like bowden/pettifer/pattison
Isn't this where Schulz should fit in? CHF? Maybe Hall will be CHF in '06 and if Schulz fails down back they swap.
Late last year during the off season didn't TW say Pattison would be our CHF in 2006?
due to his training regime at the dockers, he lost too much mobility.
if u see him now, 1 yr on, he has actually bulked down, lost some muscle mass which was inhibiting his playing style.
freo wanted him as a power fwd, we need him as a ruckman. troy will dominate this yr and along with trent knobel , become the most intimidating and successful ruck combination over the next few yrs.
staff will play up fwd, and be a relieving ruckman.
dont worry all u doubters, trent knobel is a very handy player and knows how to use his frame to protect the onballers

I for one am very happy with him.
At first Wallace played him in the forward line too much, and he is only a 'resting' forward. once he was moved to 1st ruck, he was excellent, probably one of the best mobile ruckmen going around.
Add to that the fact that he was in Browlow type form for the last few rounds, but is payed so little, he is great value for the club.

knobel is already better than most think. His game against Freo at the G last year was proof. He took several strong marks in the first half. Kicked a couple of ripping long 50m passes to Simmonds on the lead and did an awesome diving running lunge on the wing to snatch the ball from a small opponent about to pick it up and set up a goal. He also kicked a goal. That half of footy was enough to say that Knobel is very capable around the ground with a bit of confidence and he is a very good tap ruckman.

the saints made a mistake by offloading knobel. Thomas doesn't even value ruckman, that's why he uses crappy midgets like Blake in the ruck lol

Simmonds could do some major damage as a mobile ruckman, and Knobel would be more than capable as the number two.
as for Stafford, I honestly can't see him having a role in our best 18 in 2006.
I will let you know after season 2006 if I am happy we got him or not

Average ruckman/forward vs Fiora.
Im happy with the way things turned out.

It`s these non-sensical ramblings that i have missed .
You cannot judge a bloke who is a number of years into his career on the back of half a game of footy .
What about the countless others he did sweet FA around the ground ?

Knobel did bits in about a dozen games this year. He took quite a few marks etc. Remember, he started alot of games on the bench and only spent half the time on the ground in a few games and he was injured at the end of the year and missed a few games. I think he's done enough to say he can be pretty handy this year. But he has to keep his confidence up and we should support him ;)
