Klusner was like an ox. When he got going, stand back.
Afridi's the biggest hitter playing at the moment.

Depends what you define "hitter" as. Someone like Mark Waugh could send the ball a long way! In terms of natuarl aggressgion, it is hard to go past Gilchrist, Lance Cairns, Klusener, or Afridi.

i'm sure lance played 20+ years ago. although he did have a son play cricket that could give it a tickle. ;)
Symonds smacks the ball very hord indeed. As one of the comentators pointed out he miss hits them and they go for Six and thats because of the pure force he hits them with.
pollock, lee, vaas, shaoib, zaheer, harbajan all tail enders that know how to give it a whack at times.
You couldn't go past Symonds or Afridi for this one. I like Afridi better because I think he hits it further. Gilly can also hit it hard.

Klusener circa 1999. Scary.
Still only 34, should be in the South African XI this series IMO.

Klusener and Afridi, but from Australia, it's hard to go past Brett Lee - he did hit a ball out of the Gabba and has smashed a few car windows at small capacity grounds.

The biggest hitter - Shahid Afridi, Lance Klusener, Andrew Symonds
The biggest hits - Brett Lee at Brisbane 2005/06, John Davison at the World Cup, Brett Lee at the 2005 Ashes

Hard to pick , consistently Gilchrist IMO.
But the best big hit I've seen in the last 10 years is Davi(d)son for Canada in WS in SA , the ball bounced about head high and he smashed it over wide long on , right out of the screws , AWESOME .
whatever happened to davo ????

Cleanest strikers: Gilly. Lara when he gets going is pretty ********ing clean as well
Hardest hitters: Symonds, Klusener, Flintoff, Cairns, Afridi.
In that order

Whatever happened to him? He was a top player.

Yeah, I always wondered what happened to Klusener. He almost singlehandedly took the SAFs to the WC final in 99, and then I pretty much never heard of him since.

No contest.
In one of the VB games last season and Brett Lee after being smacked jokingly put his hands up to his face to protect himself from a Shahid Afridi hit.

I've got that on tape. Lee hit it over the longest part - square of the wicket and not down the ground. It was found in the practice wicket area.

what does obstr field mean
what does obstr field mean
Given out "obstructing the field". Probably the rarest form of dismissal, certainly the first time I've seen it on a scorecard.
I'm sure someone can dig up the exact rule, but more than likely it involves a deviation while taking a run, that is deemed a deliberate hindrance to a fielder.
Wait till MS Dhoni comes to Australia , should be very interesting for fans of both teams alike ... :thumbsu:

Symonds just over the rest. Klusener circa '99 WC was scary.
Biggest hit ive ever seen? Brett Lee at the ~02 ICC Champions Trophy in Kenya i think. Sent the ball over long on and out of the ground by a long way. Ball kept going as if it had no gravity.

Afridi. Even bigger than Symonds.
Kamran Akmal will be one to watch in the next few years as well.

Kamran Akmal is undoubtedly a fantastic player - but I wouldnt call him a hard hitter Dave , just a fantastic timer of the ball who always seems to find the gap - wouldnt you think? ...
for mine the hardest hitter is Shahid Afridi. i want to see him hit another 37 ball ton lol :p
Alex Tudor. WACA 2001.
I've never seen anybody hit that hard before.

is that when brett lee hit him with a bouncer
is that when brett lee hit him with a bouncer
The hit certainly wasn't with his bat.
In terms of pure strength I always thought Klussener was the brute of the century- all he needed to do was get the bat in the general vicinity and had little timing whatsoever. Afridi is up there too. Ponting and Hayden rely quite heavily on strength as well.
If I wanted someone to hit the longest six then M.Waugh or Cairns - these guys were a lot better at timing the ball. In someways these guys were the softest hitters, though that sounds derogatory. I think Symonds and to a lesser extent Gilchrist fall into this category.

I think what shouldn't be forgotten is two things - standard of bowling and bat technology. I've got no doubt that the generally appalling standard of bowling around the world encourages batsmen to be more aggressive - fair enough. Therefore they take more chances, plus the experience of one day cricket lets a lot of players actually practise hitting sixes, something players from earlier generations wouldn't have done.
The other key component is bat technology. I don't think players now hit the ball any harder than Clive Lloyd, or Viv Richards, or Ian Botham, but the superior design standards mean the ball travels further. Plus of course every ground is roped off now, meaning the batsman doesn't have to do as much to clear the boundary, and if he really connects, the fence as well.

Len Hutton had been given out via that dismissal as well.

Timed out would be the rarest. I think there has only been one known case in any form of cricket ever.

That's a good summary but I think that he can play hard when he needs to.
