who is this brads eaton? everyone talks about him but i think his nothing but big balls who couldn't get a kick in a ******** fight. what do u think 'the nest'?

So True kick it 2 me,

I have seen his 'beanbag' and it does hang considerably low. It seems his baby pigeons have grown to full size but are yet to hatch. This could be the reason he has let a couple(tin lids) through to the keeper. I dont think everyone talks about him, its more him talking about himself.

So who is your tip in the CMFL this year?;)

Spoke to a trusted real estate agent yesterday that has some connection with Red Cliffs and his mail is that Sonny Lindsay will be back at tiger land this year.

Heard Alvey was offered $50,000 to play with Balranald this year and knocked it back to play with his mates for $350. Gee you'd think the opportunity to play with the great Guy Booker would be enough incentive to sign with the Roos!

I've heard a story that Robbie Smith has played a quarter or two in the twos, years and years ago. Does anyone remember how he went? It's great to see someone that's been around a club given a go after years and years of service. It's a real spirit lifter, a laugh and a good bit of fun. Bit like Mildura giving that Nathan Murphy a go last year. Just the excitement on his face spoke volumes. He didn't get a kick but boy he was mighty proud of himself ... ;)
Look out for Murph he has dropped twenty kilo and is is looking fit as a Malle bull.Needs five game for the big fifty apparently. Actually saw him jog at the practice match last week and could do some damage in the twos lounging in a pocket.

A Wenty player told me today Alvey is playing tonight. There is no doubt there was a sign on fee paid. I heard Port and Mark have worked it out. Interesting to see how Bernard Rigby will play tonight- There may be 3 or 4 women cheering for him tonight. He is hoping that he doesn't have a Nick Davis Airport moment tonight.:D

Fair comment on Booker...

Couldn't help but join in the banter of bigfooty.com.

Is it just me or is the entire playing list of Mildura F.C. logged on here?

P.S. Corey O'Callaghan has backed himself with Mark Read at Darwin Allsports to win this years McCloud Medal at the handsome odds of 150/1. $100 should prove a nice return, something he could use on this years footy trip.

WENTWORTHS LATE NIGHT HORROR NEWS-Pre-season injuries

Is it true that Mark 'Fred' Alvey was chased last night at 4am in morning from mudcats and has sustained a serious hamstring injury and is out for 4 weeks?

Sam George copped a right Hook at the bar in Doms last night and has a suspected broken jaw.

Benjo Clay put his back out last night due to 4 Purple Bouncers throwing him out.

Belly is trying overcome a bad case of George Chaffey after 5 straight hours on the dance floor.

Bernard Rigby has been chosen for the latest vegemite commercial to air on Prime Television this week.

Colin Keatch is reportedly chasing a clearance from the Magpies to join his look alike Bernard Rigby.

Stay Tuned for more news.

Just wondering "The Nest" ,seeing that you seem to have your ear close to the ground, what's the story on Brad Eaton's hand? I'm sure you would know!! Heard he is quiet shattered that's it's his favourite right hand and will find it difficult to relieve his tension and frustrations, as you wouldn't expect him to be back in the saddle yet, so close to the birth of his second child!!

I had my first real taste of Mildura nightlife on Saturday. If the players can play as well as they can drink, the SFL would be the best comp in Australia. Some news I picked up on- South believe they will not only win the pre season comp, but the big one in September, easily according to a couple of guys. Imps believe they will be better than last year and Irymple couldn't care one bit about the pre season and will get fair dinkum only for the season proper. Lastly, the tip is Ryan Hards for the McLeod, then drafted- So the drunkest young kid I've ever seen told me. Me- O'Malleys, Doms, Sandbar, Souvlaki, Bed alone.;)

Good to see you joined up Cardew... A teacher like yourself should know the correct spelling of McCleod though... He backed himself at short odds, should be 1000/1, he wouldn't even get a game if his brother wasn't the coach

Totally agree with the prediction of Ryan Hards to win the McLead Medal. He would have to be the best 16 yr old to play senior for at least 20 years (yes, better than Don Falvo). Last year he proved that the umps rate him to.
Not sure why he is still in Mildura and not having a go in Melbourne or Adelaide.

On the south boys, I heard they are happy with their progress, however they realise that the pre season comp isn't a true reflection on how the season will unfold. You would have to say the season will be 5 teams (Imps, Irymple, Mild and South) fighting for 4 spots and injuries will have a big say.

I disagree with you about Donnie. Donnie was playing Seniors when the League was alot stronger than it is now. Hards is a very good footballer though. Will be interesting to see how he pulls up after playing south and limping off before half time with a bad ankle. I think Mildura will finish top 3. Irymple to slip to fourth if their pre season form keeps up. And to say they don't care about the pre season is ridiculous. Pre Season 2006

Lets disect the games shall we

South V Irymple

Irymple were dissapointing. Seemed to have lost a touch of class with Eaton not out there or Eagle and Carn and several others but appeared to have majority of players out there including Didini, Byrnes, DeAngilis, Calvi, Crossling, the Ransoms and Simms. Crossling got a lesson in ruckwork by Riordon and the on ballers were soundly beaten. Didn't use the ball well or appear as quick as last year.

South were good. Riordon has emerged as the premier ruckman with a dominant display. Hamdorf ran hard all game and Gathercole is Souths Eaton. The young kid Lando was excellent and Hass is moving well for an old bloke. Appear to have picked up pace and showed they will be difficult to beat this year.

Wenworth V Imps

Wentworth looked short and with only two targets to kick to in Bell and the fella Jackson will struggle a bit. Alvey didn't star like all would have thought, had to wait for others to get him the ball and without them he won't get a touch. Uses the ball very well as expected but nothing to give it to.

Imps

Played their usual type of footy and majority of senior players. Have not long started wearing boots at training and are obviously preparing for later in the season as they do each year. A good win considering the limited work they have done on the track.

Robinvale V Merbein

Robinvale are in worse shape than last year. Very short all over the ground with the usual contributers. Should have finished with 15 goals when you look at the Merbein team and underachieved in a big way. Will be a long year.

Merbein are woeful. The coach is a slob of a man and they are apparently paying Wazza Stevens to play so their aint much to say about em.

Mildura V Red Cliffs

Mildura have the list to die for. They have height straight down the middle and an ex AFL on baller. They were without Deckert, Cardew and a couple of others but the O'Callaghans (Why does Ryan wear a helmet, he has never seen a hard ball in his life) played as did Anstey and Connick. The big fella Hall showed a bit and with the inclusion of those that weren't in, should be a big big threat in 2006. They should win on Friday with a full team to select from due to playing Deckert and Cardew on Saturday night.

Red Cliffs will struggle, even with I'm a champ Faulkhead on the field, they will struggle. Will be hoping Oldham returns from NT and maybe Hassle to come back from Ballarat. No.2 Not sure of his name moved well but struggled in most parts of the field.

Wentworth V Irymple

A surprise win to Wentworth here. Irymple again played Didini and the majority of thier senior group but were well beaten around the ground by Wenty.

Wenty showed more than the previous night with Lawso playing a good one. These two teams will be battling for Fourth Spot.

South V Imperials

Imperials were solid in the first half bottling up the ball stopping South from running. Riordon didn't play and Cook did the ruckwork and coming out on top. The little fella Lando again played well as did Gathercole. Dalla Santa was excellent on the wing. Johns played hard but Hamdorf didn't play and we still didn't see Fox or several other new recruits to South including Fitzgerald. Looks like they are moving quite nicely and should give Mildura a run for their money on Friday except they are still missing up to 7 senior players from what I have heard.

Imperials couldn't match the leg speed of South in the second half and only kicked 1 behind to South 4 goals. They are claiming they had their reserves playing and making excuses but both Hards were there, Mills played, Kneebone played, and the only noticeable absentees were Maloney, Daniel and Michael Hickey and Danny Thornton. Will be around the mark though when they start to hit thier straps around round four to six.

Red Cliffs V Merbein.

Not even commenting. Didn't watch it.

Mildura V Robinvale

Mildura may be confident after this weekend after winning by 10 Goals to Robinvale but lets look at why. Robinvale were so short of players that Jason Bell and Luke Gane who were walking past the rooms before the game were asked to play. They had no bench, no Gareffa, no zappia, NO BODY. Mildura only kicked 10 goals and should have kicked more. O'Callaghans didn't play and no connick but Deckert Cardew and Anstey all played. Anstey looks the goods.

Next Friday Preview South V Mildura

Mildura should be favourites with an entire team to select from with South having 7 players unavailable due to not playing last weekend. Fox again won't take the field and the Height of Mildura will trouble them too much. Although South have moved well, Mildura full of confidence should win the game. south have beaten both last year Grand Finalists and Mildura last years 6th and 7th placed teams so it will be a good game.

Good luck South and Mildura. but the pre season cup is only good for the $$$$$. SO Gutsy as good as your post was dont rely on the pre season cup. 2 20 minute halfs mean nothing!!

Obviously concerned about the form at irymple.. i know it may still be early but how are they shaping up?

Mark sure has heaps of talent and skills, however he did get most of his kicks out on the wing, instead of in general play! With not many big bodys out their last weekend he didn't look very comfortable in pack situations.

Anyway he has replaced Tony Hickey and John Hallam for the tightest shorts in the league:D Observation from the wife

The topic of the day is the rubbish being written and said regarding Alvey. All I've heard is he gets kicks wide, won't get a hard ball etc. The guy has played good footy at AFL level and his knee injury came at the wrong time as he had a sensational year with the Bulldogs the year before. Do you all really think he would have lasted at AFL level if he didnt win his own footy? He is the best credentialled recruit to play in this league since Phil Egan, he will be a star in this comp and at interleague level. It will take him time to adjust to his teammates and their delivery at this level but I reckon there is a fair bit of jealousy around that he is not at your clubs. And no I'm not best mates with him, just appreciate a footballer with ability who has achieved what most of us on this board only dream about. Thats my two cents. :thumbsu:

Spoke to a mate of mine from Rochie who played a lot of junior footy with Kneebone and he stated that he was an absolute gun player and played in the u/18 state comp and seniors for rochie as a 16 year old. He also spoke very highly of his hardness and courage. Looks like another good pick up for Imps. Delray he might have some footy ability, however his problem which he showed on the weekend was he was more concerned about the player instead of the ball. That's not tough footy and in the end punsihes the hard work done by others. He did kick quiet a few goals in the bush last year, however the Gol Gol boys reckon he struggled against them. So it will be interesting if he can step up another level
However I do rate his younger brother who has a good balance of aggressiion at the ball and man.

Great job Gutsy with your review, it was a really good read but I think you're surely selling South short for the Final. South defeated last years grand finalists with 7 men short. Mildura defeated Red Cliffs and unconvincingly (you said it yourself) accounted for Robinvale (1 man short initially and whos coaching panel were sinking coldies on the bench during the game). From this I don't see the logic in predicting Mildura as the favourites. Unless of course you're trying to promote your boys South as underdogs rather than hotdogs ...

Kneebone was very handy on Friday night at CHB. Very good defensively. Didn't notice him on Saturday. Unsure if he played actually. Quite a few observers were impressed with him though. Remember he does run into burning buildings so he must be a little crazy.

How did Stafford pull up, he looks half the man (literally) than he was at this time last year. hopefully for Imps and the League he can get back to the footy we know he can play. Remember this bloke once played a game of AFL reserves when he was 17 or 18.

Yaaaablet, you are correct on two fronts. Firstly, Alvey is the most credentialled player to enter this League since Egan and he will be a great player at interleague level. You are wrong about several things though. 1.He had a good year with bulldogs not a sensational year. He was very unfortunate to suffer the knee injury when he did cause I thought he was really going to take that next step and be a regular player.
2.You don't need to be a hard player at AFL level just as any team has recievers. You would be hard pressed Yaaablett to find a video reel with Alvey in or near a pack. He was sensational at running and using the ball and being on the end of someones handball and kick. He has never been a hard ball get type player.

I don't think he will win a Mcleod medal because so much is expected of him and if he doesn't get 30-40 touches per game it will be said he has played badly, very unfair on Alvey but true. (The umpires have stated this themselves).

I totally agree that he will find it difficult at this level cause the players he is with will not be what he is used to and don't know their roles anywhere near as well an AFL team. If you could hear him screaming at them on Friday night to get into positions during the game you would see he gets frustrated with it. Will have a good year but will finish equal second in the McLeod. Anstey and Gathercole are my front runners for the medal. Gathercole by 1 vote with 19 over Anstey and Alvey on 18.

I would have tipped South but Mildura will go into the game with a full team. That includes, Connick, Leng, Cardew, Hall, Deckert, the O'Callaghan clan and some very good juniors. It would appear with South not having up to 8 players available, they will not match a more experienced and taller team.

Good Friday At No. 3 should be a cracker!!

I would have tipped South but Mildura will go into the game with a full team. That includes, Connick, Leng, Cardew, Hall, Deckert, the O'Callaghan clan and some very good juniors. It would appear with South not having up to 8 players available, they will not match a more experienced and taller team.

Should be a great game.

I see on the Wimmera FL site that Jade Keam has been cleared to Robinvale. This bloke is the younger brother of coach Shannon Keam and can play.

Hey Delray, i agree with Gutsy mate, he didn't do anything in either game on the weekend to warrant being called a good player in the SFL even if he has improved. With regard to Sam, how does him making someone sore and sorry make him a good player? In the words of Pauline Hansen, PLEASE EXPLAIN.

Keep up the good work Gutsy, you touched a nerve there.

Good Friday for one, Nightmare for the other.

Here's your answer, Who the hell is Ben Matthews?????? Must be a big enforcer.

Well who the hell are you buddy???? All I will say is keep your eyes and ears open. He's going to be a big part in Wentworth's premiership aspirations.

I watched both South and Mildura play on Saturday night and felt that South was the better performed, keeping in mind the opposition. Should be a good game but South by 2-3 goals for mine.

Hey Delray. I reckon Merbein are gunna finish stone motherless last. Care to argue with that or will we wait 24 weeks and see? Seems as though there's a lot of improvement going on at Irymple. The Ransome's are improving, the kids are improving, I even hear Eatons hands improving remarkably fast too. If Imps haven't improved at the same rate you could say Irymple's the flag favourite already don't you think ??? :)
