Wellsy watched a little bit of your game on the weekend and it seemed as though some of your more senior players just don't look interested. It was late in the game so maybe just a bit buggered. Even if that was the case still doesn't set a good example for the young blokes though.
Good to see Simmo in the best!

How's Bennet Deale slotted in out there? High hopes earlier in the piece haven't heard of him since?

Haven't seen much of him playing. We go into the rooms at quarter time so i don't get to see much. Is pretty vocal at training a seems to give 100 percent. I'd say fitness would be the biggest hurdle although has been doing most trainings of late.

Yeah little simmo is hard at it and relentless. I think in the last quarter we were made to pay for our own pitfalls. We went so hard getting it back to i think 18 points just before 3 quarter time after being 50 odd down. It gets a little disheartening to give them 5 goals all day from careless and undisciplined acts aswell. Also with such a young side a physical game (as it turned into in the 3rd) can take its toll on younger bodies. We don't actually have too many "senior players" agewise with only half a dozen or so of us over 25 years old. We did gel a lot better and with fritz and davis to come back this week hopefully we will continue to improve. Should be a big build up this week to play the tiges out home. Need that win......

Bit worried at 1/4 time! Finished the game off well though. 11 goals should give the boys some confidence heading into the big one this week versus Irymple. How did Jason go at the tribunal last night?
Thats embarassing, Elstone...........

Im not sure how high the hopes where.? Do you know him Rabbito as i see you take a fair interest in the Mallee League aswell, where he is from.
I can tell you that he has secured a position at center half bench at the moment. Hopefully as the season goes on he can get some more game time.

I thought the article was well written and made some very good points but basically he is saying that it was deliberate and that is not on.
With conflicting views from 5 metres away I don't understand how he gives his opinion from another state.
Any news on the investigation or if there is even one being conducted still?

Eariler on some from Merbein talked him up as a recruit, when I questioned it, I was informed he'd kicked 100 goals in jnr, even beat a young jared arentz to an u/16 goal kicking award. I know bennett well he is a computer head, I was surpised he got a kick when he was younger!!
Not having a go at him, I was having a shoot at who put him up as a recruit. Bennett's a good bloke.

I thought it was a pretty inflammatory article and that he has pre-empted the results of any investigation. He must have good eyesight if he saw it from Adelaide. It read as a very negative article and once again has basically accused the Demons coaching staff of ordering "the hit".

I actually thought it was a very good article the only people who wont like it are Mildura people. Im not associated with either club but all i will say is accident or not Alvey has a broken jaw and that means there should be a suspension. Perhaps Mr Alvey is the only one who can and should answer this and tell us the truth as to how he sustained his injury. No doubt he will have his say.

Deano, we all said the majority of the article was very good but the only critique would be that it reads as though he is pointing the finger which he is clearly not in position to.
As far as suspension what a stupid statement....... yes if he was dealt with outside the rules fine the player should pay a penalty, a substantial one at that due to the time Alvey will miss.
But for example what if someone is slung into an opponents knee and injures themselves..... should the opponent then be suspended just because the player is seriously injured. Think before posting!

for daniel elstone's letter in the paper today to be labelled 'embarressing' is pretty disappointing. he wrote the piece on the weekend just gone so he, as has everyone else, had time to take in all the happenings of the last ten days or so and have a well imformed view. ofcourse he didn't see the incident but niether did most of you, but its fine for you to all make judgement on alvey, carmichael, and the investigation. he didn't condemn the young dee or say he was guilty, he had an oppinion on what has happened to many gun country players and more recently alvey in the first 2 games this year. its a view shared by most normal people in this league (except probably most of mildura). and personally knowing daniel pretty, i'd say he wrote this article as he loves his footy, the mildura area and the league, and wants it heading in the right direction. what he has done could only go towards achieving that. if, as it has been hinted, mildura gave orders in regards to alvey, then not only alvey is a victim here but so too is carmichael.
Iv any coach ordered that sort of stuff then the player should be a bit smatter then that an relieze its wrong, i know one of the coachs at mildura pretty well and if he ordered such it would be completly out of charecter, i know there are always 2 sides to every storey, but reading some of teh stuff on here there are more then 2 sides to this storey. maybe ith issue should be dropped an lets get back to footy

Deano that is absolute crap get with it!! If u were not there please dont comment u didnt see it and u dont know how the injury happend. Now i wasnt there but from what i have been told, all the Mildura people say it was fair and all of the W/Worth people say it was dirty and thats the only thing that the investigation is going to find, 2 conflicting stories.
Broken jaw does not = suspension. In most cases yes but not in all cases. Football is a contact sport and people do get hurt and somethimes its within the rules.
And Island Please Mark Alvey is not the only Gun Recruit/ Gun Player the SFL has ever Had.
Chis Leng - R/Vale
Paul Evans - R/Vale
Don Falvo - R/Vale
R Lindsay - R/Cliffs - Imps
D DeAngelis - Iry
B Eaton - Iry
S Garner - Imps
B Hards - Imps
J Arentz - W/Worth
L Gathercole - Sth
McMasters - Merb
J Ansty - Mild
D Obree - Mild
I have no doubt that the attention that these players have received over the years is no different.

mate i agree, good players get more attention and thats football. the players you mentioned are all gun players but none of of them have come fresh from a 60-70 game afl career to their home town where not only will they have a large number of supporters, but obviously a number of people who would like to see him fail. i saw him play both games this season and he was under massive physical pressure both games. the guy was targeted, he has a damning report from a head doctor in melbourne about what happened to his jaw, mildura's story from what i've heard doesn't agree with it. surely evidence and experts opinion's can overcome some half baked mildura cover up story to save this young kid's reputation and justice prevail. i and all of us have said enough, lets now wait to hear the league's decision.

True True. Mark is a great footballer and extremly professional i have no doubt he will be back. But without video evidence i cant see the investigation uncovering anything.
Thoughts on Rnd 4 winners???
I think Irymple V W/worth will be a cracker our side is starting to settle and the way the roos finished last week Im tipping no more then a goal either way.
Red Cliffs V Merbein: havent seen either team;
Sth V Mildura: Mildura 8 goals :top 2 in 07
Imps V R/Vale: if imps lose they go to 1:3. they would not be happy with that. i recon that will get them over the line B Hard still out is a massive loss still.

what has a 60-70 afl career have to do with it, I have seen gathercole belted from pillar to post, with no assistance from referees, spivey has copped the same, i am sure that falvo and the other players mentioned by delray are treated the same, mate the incident has happened, wenty have their side of it and mildura have their side of it, all this talk on this forum in relation to the incident will have no bearing on the outcome so just let it go and get on with it

Did I read the same article? Basically the article stated that the incident was illegal and that the senior coaches at Mildura instructed their players to target Mark illegally, I have some legal background and I assure you this could go further if pursued. Daniel and the paper might be in trouble.

Just heard on the radio that the investigator found no malice in the incident and that it was an unfortunate accident. Word around the traps last night was that the umpire (not sure which one) backed the Mildura version stating he was in a perfect position. Lets hope this is put to rest now and both clubs (and the players involved) can move on.

Not really Santoz, more towards individuals, although they and any other media outlet for that matter must be accountable for what you put in a public forum.
Looking forward to playing this week mate, been a while since you played for points hopefully you get a kick.

Wouldn't of thought they would take legal action against the paper as the owner of the Sunny Daily is a very high profile Mildura sponsor/supporter. You could also ask why he let the article even be printed.

Your right, very unlikely it would be directed at the paper, especially due to the support the club receives from people involved.
You wouldn't ask why it was allowed to go in though as the person you refer to is not involved in the editorial department and more than likely read it when the rest of us did.

W/Worth were more than impressive on the weekend as was vandy. They are a top 2 side in my opinion. Badds seems to have a team of goers that follow the team plan to the letter. Wet conditions certainly suited them but they still have Alvey, Bell & Cummings to come in. Looking very good!!!

To say Rod was injured would reduce the accolades that Vandy deserves. He was very very good. Johnny Jackson was back to his very best and the coaches got it right with match ups. As good an effort as I've seen and with 3 champions to come back in the roos are travelling well.

If it goes that way. Yes, all the way. I spoke to several committee guys on Saturday and whatever Mark wants to do they will support.
Word around Swan Hill is Merbein are continuing to chase Balranald fringe players and succeeding. I caught up with a Balranald on baller a week or 2 ago and he said he might coach a club up there next year as there is a loose offer on the table. Evgen at 4-5 rounds in things are happening.

Wouldn't all those balranald blokes be costing merbein 4 points? Even with their bonus points they must be sailing close to the wind. Four from balranald that would be 16 points.Three from Sunraysia clubs could be 15 unless they've put them down as strictly seconds players. Some from the mallee . Plus what they had last year. They must be getting close.

sorry not from the league but habe a look on here a bit but what's this points thing all about....bit like a salary cap?
Easier to police than the salary cap idea.
Players coming into a club are given a points rating depending on where they come from eg senior players from another club in our league are worth 5 points. Some players are worth less a few are worth more. Players returning to your club are zero as are kids coming up from the juniors.
Each club has a basic allocation of 22 points overall. If you end the year outside the four you get bonus points for the next year. One coach counts as a zero. Each year at the club a players points rating drops by one I think.
The ideas behind it is to prevents clubs blowing the budget in an effort to win a flag or two then falling in a heap. The idea encourages clubs to use the home grown product and to be a bit selective in their recruiting.
A player coming into the club can be counted ae a reserves player only and he wont count on your total. it is a bit more complicated than this but you get the idea???

so how many points would for example d o'bree be worth, or because he is joint coach does he only get one point or does he get extra points because he has previous coaching experience, would he have been worth more or less points if he went to one of the other clubs his played for up there. sorry for all the questions just sounds like a good idea to keep the comp even
Not sure about O'bree maybe a 4 . But mildura would only count one of their coaches in the total and it would be logical to count the one with the less points. A players points are independant of the club he goes to.
The league will dispute the clubs reckoning of a players point value They may put them up or down.

going alright as vice captain. picked up his first win as captain last week in the absence of deckert. also gets me in a lot of strife trying to keep up with him on the drink
any thoughts on this weekends games
And Island Please Mark Alvey is not the only Gun Recruit/ Gun Player the SFL has ever Had.
Chis Leng - R/Vale
Paul Evans - R/Vale
Don Falvo - R/Vale
R Lindsay - R/Cliffs - Imps
D DeAngelis - Iry
B Eaton - Iry
S Garner - Imps
B Hards - Imps
J Arentz - W/Worth
L Gathercole - Sth
McMasters - Merb
J Ansty - Mild
D Obree - Mild
I have no doubt that the attention that these players have received over the years is no different.
So what's happen to Sonny Lindasy? Haven't heard about him at all in any of the footy news for the last couple of weeks!!!
Can anyone tell me how Benny Parker played on the w/end

Is Leon Crisera the unluckiest player in country Victoria? Clearly the best reserves player at Irymple, if not in the SFL. Averages 3.6 possessions/game, 23.6 whimpers, 12.4 yelps, 18.7 whinges. Surely he deserves more recognition?

Is Brad Thomas getting a kick at Imps? And has anyone dobbed him in for sticking his finger up opponents ars3s John Hopaote style? He's a filthy little pervert and justice should be brought upon him.

John your thoughts on this site are about as welcome as a nun at a prono convention stick to batting....... your self off cus u are certainly no good at just batting on a cricket oval any more :)
Any way boys to Rnd 5 action this site is dead what is going on. Very shocked that r/vale rolled w/worth keeps the log jam of 5 teams alive. whispers are r/vales new recruit is a gun can any1 confirm?? and where does he play??
Imps V W/worth will be a cracker this week and with the possibility of only 14 rnds this season could go a very long way to shaping the final 4.
On that what are some thoughts on how to tackle the water issue. A decision will be made prior to July 1. my mail is 14 rnd season!!! but only time will tell.
Every one buy a black car and wash it every week, works for me:D

I haven't seen a lot of footy this year but I did watch imps vs mildy in rnd 1 and Decks carved up Atkinson without having trained or played a practice match. Other then that and possibly J.Bell, pretty good side, very good backline!

Wont be missed around the place for the money he was paid. Really struggled getting possessions. Did very well at ball ups though.

Forget about playing, Delray's hidden talent was unearthed on the weekend. Coached the 2's to a thumping victory over Merbein (apparently faked a hammy to get the gig!). Surely the best coaching prospect the league has seen since John Harvey rolled into town a few years back.

Big Tip Watch Atkinson in the interleague always known to perform on big games.

I thought that Deckert was injured, otherwise he would be in. Bell would be rested anyway you would think. J. Keam has had a good start as well but I have heard he didnt play last weekend through injury???

Abused a boundary I heard. A certain chap from Robinvale is very fortunate to be running out this week after several cheap shots throughout the game last week. Do umpires report anyone anymore? If you saw the news Monday you'll know what I mean.:thumbsd:

There would also be a player at WW that might get himself in a bit of hot water with his abuse of umpiers when he comes back from injury. I'm sure you can work out who Dirty.

What do you classify as a cheap shot? little punch to the gut and that type of thing or something more sinister?
The type of stuff that AFL players get rubbed out for these days, like the ones were a bloke retaliates at a tagger are in my opinion cheap shots but not worthy of suspension, a free kick definately but not missing games.
Can you name names and clarify 'cheap shots' for us?

pretty sure D O'Bree has bigger things on the day of the interleague game then to play footy, would proberly be playing against a few mates to haveing spent a few years in the ncfl where he won the league B/F

many double standards in the game of footy today. Why is it that Simo wasnt offered the minimum one match ban that most blokes get for striking sum c$%t. In the big smoke u only get a miserly fine for abusing an ump.
the fu%#in big eared nuffy boundary probably deserved a spray, either for getting a decision wrong or for simply lookin like the dude out of mad magazine.
The powertrippin queers on the tribunal need a spray too.
They should be at home watching mythbusters.

shaun smith gave justin clay a very late elbow to the head, justin ended up with a pretty bad concussion. win tv got it on camera and showed it on the news monday night. looked pretty bad, very reportable in both afl and country footy.

Harry with your brilliant command of the English language and obvious intelligent insight into the game. You have all the qualifications to join the umpires ranks yourself.
Perhaps even a spot on the tribunal. Don't hesitate step up have a go. The umps need someone like you.

Your right there, it was billy stevens and he is a spitting image of the guy on the mad magazine. Way too harsh on simmo. All that for calling someone a fuc*head. I think because people in the crowd could hear it is why it is so severe (the penalty that is), but its bulls*it all the same...

The umpire first decides if it goes to the tribunal, then the player/club gets to decide if he wants to go to the tribunal or take the set penalty of one week.
As for comparing Country Footy to "The big smoke", it is their job to play footy and they get paid alot of money to do their job so they should get fined, but to bring fines into the SFL that just wouldn't work.
But agree on the harshness of the penalty was a little bit over the top on their behalf!
Uncanny
10 May 2007, 23:01
I do think the penalty was a bit rough for simo, but the umpires association have told all the clubs and made it very clear that they are going to crack down on swearing and abusing umpires this year, i guess this is how serious they are going to be.

Any reportable offence towards an umpire, a set penalty cannot be taken, it must be heard before the tribunal. These days, if you go to the tribunal and are found guilty, 2 weeks is usually the minimum you will receive. The league is cracking down on abuse and swearing etc, I think the point has been made.

Call me stupid but wouldnt the match of the day be between Mildura and Irymple or Imps and W/Worth i mean Robinvale will win by 100 + points infront of a tiny crowd i cant see that being a great spectical for the VCFL.
Crunch game for Wenty and Imps loser going to 3 and 3 and will slip out of the 4. Ill go Wenty only because they gave us a bealting, how they lost the week after has still got me beat.
Red cliffs will role south. And i hope the Swallows get up but Mildura are looking great at the moment

Surely this great loss will put merbein out of the final race.
Eato needs to swear at the ump?
Keenen and Yeates in the 2's?
Merbein are travelling just nicely!!
