Got the idea from thread on main board. Who is our best 22 for 2006 at the moment including the positions they should play? Obviously injuries might affect this but heres how I see it;

B: Adcock, Michael, Johnson
HB: Drummond, Leppitsch, Lappin
C: Corrie, Voss, Copeland
HF: Akermanis, Brown, Power
F: Brennan, Bradshaw, McGrath
Ruck: Keating, Black, Hadley
Int: Charman, C.Scott, Sherman, Merrett

What surprised me is how good the Forward line looks with this set up, also with Sherman & Merrett on the bench. I almost put Johnson in the forward line but realised we are a little light up for quality young defenders to take his place. Although, either Aker or Power though could easily slot into half back when needed.

And yes, I have not found room for Selwood B Scott, Notting, J McDonald. Obviously there are a couple of unknowns such as Beau, Fixter etc but this is what I see as the best side to send out in 2006.

Whats your take? Feel free to nail me for missing someone important or getting it completely wrong.

I found myself in the same situationn as you, I thought I'd nailed a good 22 then I'd go "oh damn, I forgot about him, him and him".

We've certainly got a fair bit of depth there if injuries take their toll. It is going to be interesting to what team the powers that be come up with.

As for you living in Tokyo, you lucky son of a *****. My favorite city in the world. Plan to teach English over there eventually. Asakusa is amazing.

Nice, I was wondering what a '22 fro' was myself but if they do exist I guess that'd be it.

No room for Crackers?...would've thought he was still number 1 just over Charman (although maybe he should be cryogenetically frozen and only defrosted for the month of September). For some reason i've had a crazy epiphany that C Scott is in for a great year...although his injury may have affected him more than we realise.

Yeah, and I guess Brennan will probably switch positions & fill gaps etc. Although if we have a good year with injuries I would love to see him stay up forward.

Yes the depth is there...our worry is we are relying on a lot of players to come through; eg. Merrett, Corrie, Adcock etc. (and I dont have the optimism of some of the supporters of the bottom clubs here on BigFooty).

As for Tokyo, I love it! but i've only been here since August & the weather is ********en atrocious but I guess being in London any weather's better than that. I am teaching now (since it's about the only thing gaijin can do!). We hardly need to bother these good people with this so PM me if you want to talk about it more.

Good efforts boys....Hmmm...isnt this harder than what it first appears
Here's my take
B: Adcock, Michael, Johnson
HB: Drummond, Leppitsch, Lappin
C:,Akermanis, Black, Notting/Selwood
HF: Brennan,Brown,Corrie
F: Voss, Bradshaw, McGrath
Ruck: Charman, Power, Hadley
Int: C Scott, Selwood/Notting, Merrett, Fixter

I'd like to give brennan a run on the ball for his athletism and flair however I dont know how accountable he will be on the opposition rebound.I'd be more inclined to give Adcock a little go in the middle for development at times.
And of course I would like to bring Vossy on for 'impact' quarters in the middle but spending most of his time snaggin a few in the forward line so we can get a few more years out of him.
I was also unsure on swapping Bradshaw and Browny as I love the idea of seeing the big fella parked in the square, however at this stage i think we still need his physical presence a bit further up the ground.

Crackers appears to be training beautifully ATM, but the changed rucking landscape make his bang'crash approach simply far less effective than it was. It's set up for the lanky tap guy these days -- either Balsa or Beau in our case. Charman's got a more similar style to Crackers, but a longer shelf life. Unless Crackers can bag 2 or 3 often, in a forward line that already looks tallish with Merrett, Brown Bradshaw, Brennan, Clark, etc, I can't justify making him first pick.

Having said that, history says that Beau, Balsa and Emu are likely to have their injuries, so he's every chance of playing 8-10 games. Just not as first cab.

I'm not so confident about the Scott's either. You really do need everything to be going your way bodywise when you get to 30ish. They've played a brutal brand of footy for a long time and neither seems to be able to build up the protective fitness base they need. Again, with injuries to others, both may find themselves getting opportunities as the season goes on. I just can't see them giving consistently more than, say, a fit Fixter, Patful or Selwood.

I dont know if consistency and the name Fixter go together very well. He's been pretty injury prone throughout his career so far.

True, but there's nothing chronic about Fixter injuries -- they've been unrelated to each other and pretty unlucky -- and he's not in the twilight of his career. Neither Chris nor Brad can say that.

We'll have to wait and see, but I'm pretty confident Fixter will play more than either Scott this year.

To much time on your hands, i think you need footy season to start, or a girlfriend(or partner) I think you need a clue, and an education on what real footy is.

Yeah, hey whats with the nastiness? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic at hand...do you think Crackers' days are over because of his , or can the big old bugger still play an important role next year? Can either of the Scotts make their way back into the side?

As for Joel MacDonald (for macca69), it's hard to say...got a bit of pace, and good endurance. Not flashy but good running defender and team player & seems to enjoy playing on good players in defence or in midfield. Hope to see some improvement and I would love any sort of output since he did come in as a rookie and is 'almost' a Qld product...in that he wasn't drafted from another state.
