View Full Version : Moby D.i.c.k
Which was better - Herman Melville's book about Captain Ahab and some friggen gigantic fish thing, or Led Zeppelin's song with the totally Bonzoid drum solo?

I chose the song, but I do have a gripe with it. While 'Moby ****' was brilliant live, I think it is absurd to put an extended drum solo on a studio album.
On the other hand, the book sucked so much, it made the song even better. I don't care about Melvilles' "craft" involved, or the incredibly imagery, the deep symbolism, Man vs Nature vs Himself etc etc etc. Plain and simple, the book was a snoozer. Worse - a very long and painful yawnfest. Hated it.

why did you finish reading it Mooster?
I agree, I tried hard with it but just couldn't be bothered in the end.
The book is very evocative for its time. Remember it was written prior to TV, Movies even photography itself was in its very early years.
Yea, its a 'concentrate' to read type book but if you try to picture yourself reading it for the times its portraying it is a (that word again) true classic.
Sorry Darky, the book wins.
