$275K per year????

Steady on Miller. He may have shown something in 2005 but I dont think he is a $275K player yet. How do we know how he is going to handle the second year blues this year?

I would have expected it to be more like $150K

It was in an Article about Richmond already in talks to sign up Deledio, He said that Deledio will be probably looking at around $275,000 on a 2 year contract.

I think the quote was he could "command" $275K?

Why sign him this year?Don't the kids that get drafted get a two year contract automatically?

This year being his 2nd year. Would be his final year of his contract. There for we gotta sign him up otherwise all clubs will be at His door. Give him what he wants plus a spot in the leadership group ;)

Because, Bentleigh, if we don't offer him a new contract pronto we will get hung out to dry at the end of the year when Hawthorn (or worse, Carlton) throw money at him. It would be the Gaspar scenario all over again.

Front loaded contracts, back loaded contracts. Who cares just sighn him up for what he is worth NOW.

Ok he has had a great start to his carreer, won the Rising star award, played for Australia, but he is not worth 275k in his second season, not even in his third.

Three year contract starting this season $550,000. Then if he is anything like he has promised to become than I guess he will be naming his price.

5th year $600,000 per year and increasing.

Yeah lets just try and sign him up for 150 k per year for 2 years and then watch a Collingwood or Essendon knock on his door with a 300 k per year contract.

Then let's see how you guys react when Lids considers those deals.

Sure he has only had 1 season but surely you guys can see a talented player when it smacks you straight between the eyes. Anyway you probably will find no contract will be signed until july IMO so by then the club and us supporters will get a further idea about his capabilities.

If it was Tambling getting that kind of money then it would be right to query that decision.

Spot on. If we offer Deledio $150 per year we might as well kiss his arse goodbye now.

I siad the same thing about Ottens when he came onto the scene as well. He has not made it yet.

Deledio is better than Ottens will ever be. Where Ottens was an introvert, Deledio is an extravert and will lead the club and be a champion for the next decade (and more)...the kid's a gun.

Miller doesn't let the good ones go.

Why is coughlan not in the leadership group knowing he is the next captain?

Deledio cogs both leaders :thumbsu:

As good as he is won't captain @ 21ish. Too young.

Cogs just got back from a serious injury. Had a good season but dropped off towards the end.

Let him attempt another solid year and get 100% before extra responsibilty.

Average wage in the AFL is about $120k or so. He will have earnt $100k in 2005 including base and match payments.

$275k plus match-payments sounds about right. Krakouer was reported to be getting $250k.

Also it is good strategy. We have to get to minimum salary cap figure. That is going to be a difficult number for us with only 22 senior players on the list and almost everyone else a first or second year player, or a fringe junior.

Prefer to pump-up Deledio's contract to $300k in preference to contracting other youngsters on inflated deals just to make the minimum payments.
