View Full Version : Schultz playing in the backline and getting owned.

But it was Richardson who was by far the most dominant player on the ground with his four last quarter goals deciding the outcome after little separated the two teams in the first three terms.
Richardson, who turns 31 just before the start of the home and away season, was opposed to Joel Bowden, Darren Gaspar and Jay Schulz throughout the match but was too big and strong for Schulz in the final term.
Jay getting 4 kicked on him in a 1/4 of football.
So much for our long term, A-Grade CHB eh?

there is not a defender in the league that can stop richo when he is on fire. i wouldnt be giving shulz the flick just because richo towelled him up. he would have learned a heck of a lot from that.
not many defenders in the league would of done much better bentleigh!
i hope he plays on richo next week too. what a great way to learn the ropes of defending by playing on one of the best forwards in the AFL week in, week out.
Not disgraced at all i say. keep growing son.

More crud from Benteigh :thumbsd:
From most reports I have read, Shultz was doing an ok job unfortunately it was a 10 min Richo blitz that blew the game wide open.
Anyway Shultz is on a learning curve, it would be a good lesson for him

Maybe Schulz is a forward after all.
I'm all for giving him a crack at the backline (it worked for Scott Turner) but it might be a case of a leopard not being able to change its spots.
I'd rather Schulz at CHF and play Bowden at CHB except against the biggest of the CHFs.

Exactly.
Any defender will find it tough isolated 1-on-1 when the ball is coming in with little pressure upfield.
Not even Silvagni could stop Richo when he is on fire! Bentleigh, why do you always have to create negative threads? :thumbsd:

Why do people still spell SCHULZ incorrectly?

from what i have read there was enormous pressure on the defence that shulz was playing in. not his fault i would wager.

That's it. :thumbsu:
Totally unrealistic expectations to think that Schulz will just dominate from the get-go.
all u shulz baggers just pis.s off
1/ he did pretty well on richo for most of the time, sure richo kicked 4 in the last term, well hello its richo, he can do more than that against any defender!!!!!!
2/ shulz had his first reall test in comp style game, he won 2 quarters lost 1, against who, the most damaging fwd in the afl
3/ remember browns 4-5 goal haul on clement, fantastic, and yet clement still made AA
give shulz a break, he will be a gun , down back and forward
Why do people still spell SCHULZ incorrectly?
agree turtle, if everyone could please do him a favour, its spelt SCHULZ not SHULZ or SHULTZ but
SCHULZ.
im sure he'd appreciate it very muchly :thumbsu:

cos atm he's a lightweight who's barely played a good game in all the years he's been down there.
I think most of you are kidding yourselves if you think this kid is any good. The problem with him is that he's an imbecile, just plain dumb. He does too many stupid things on, and off the field.
If he ever turns out to be a good player for the Tigers, I'll be totally surprised.
And if he doesn't fire up this year, he's trade bait.

u will eat ur words, the kid has talent to burn, can take massive marks, runs hard and str8, and can kick a bag of goals, as v the lions. playing him in defence is all about development and team structure.
how about u put a jumper on a show us what ur made of
fact, schulz is an afl player, your not

Was Schulz playing too or just Schultz?
Given he is part of the emerging leadership group, the club must have strong faith in his long term ability.

I'm not completely sold on Shulz yet either way, but as everyone has rightly said, he was playing on a red-hot Richo!!
No defender in the league can stop a rampant Richo, let alone a developing tall still learning the position. Anyone putting more than 2 seconds worth of thought into it would realize that.

tiv isn't hopeless ;)
I just amazes me how year after year , the amount of **************s that run around judging players on the basis of one performance .
Knobel played half a good game once ... so he is good
Schulz kicked 5 once .... so he is a star
Lounder kicked 3 in his first game ... what a juggernaut
Justin Pickering played a few goodins in his first year ... yep ... he will own the midfield for a decade.
Richo kicked 6 on Schulz in a prakky match ... so now he is ********
FFS ... will Richmond supporters ever learn .
Worth is judged by performance over a reasonably lengthy period of time . Get it through your heads .
Look at 95`.... we all ran around sucking each others cocks and signed those players on lucartive long term contracts and look what happened .
It just amazes me .

I keep hearing how great Schulz is and he has played only a few good games in all the years he's been there. And played plenty of crap games as well. He can barely make the 1sts.
2006 is his year of reckoning. Time will tell and I'm not making any more comments about him just yet.

hey terry tan, you wouldn't have expected schultz to play many games in his first year as an 18 year old. His second year was good for a 19 year old. His third year was ruined by injury and off field problems and he took a while to get the form and fitness up to scratch. Give him an opportunity

What have I said in this thread that makes me a such and such?
Schults has been average in the pre-season and played 4 games last season.
He is a talented young, high drat pick KPP. We need him to come good. Do a seach if you like - the amount of times I've said its vital he does make it for the future of the club is why I watch him so carfully.
Good game tonight. Needs to keep getting better.
