I love the following bands...
White Stripes
John Butler Trio
Snout
Klinger
Segression
Bad Religion
More to come...
The Hitman
Ok so there semi-big but not big big...
They are though way better than what they get credit for, when NSYNC, Britney and bloody Backstreet Boys get No.1 hits and the Jebs awesome new single, Fall Down can only reach 24 on the Aria charts....well its just wrong.

Well they aren't big now, but they will be soon!!!!!
In Bloom
Their sound is alternative, with a real 70s feel........ an interesting combination that really works. 2 of the 3 band members do happen to be Wilsons. BUT their sound is like heaps unique. They are popular around LA at the moment but are slowly gaining recognition, and yes, I had a word in Justyn Wilson's ear and one of their first stops when they get Carl in the damn plane is Melbourne. :D :D :D Their music is like NOTHING I would normally listen to, but I LOVE this stuff!!!!!!!!!! :D
You can hear some of their sounds at:

Jebediah are a semi commercialised band anyway so they are always gonna get in the aria charts....but they wont get in the top 10 cos they arent a boy band are they!
only boy bands or britney spears wanna bes get in the top 10.

Segression are reasonable but there are much much better metal bands in australia.
Earth deserve some recognition - they go off!!
Incubus are only just starting to get the recognition theyve deserved for hte past 6 years.
Sevendust get no recognition at all but are a bloody good band.
Amen have the best live show going around but very little people know about them in Australia.

I heard a song on Rage friday night called Fat Lip by a band called Sum41. It was a cool punk rock song and they seemed to have a whole lot of energy. Anybody know anything about them or heard of them?

That's not punk rock, that's just manufactured fodder.

Well i really like Fuel but im not sure how much recognition they get overseas. In Australia they get very little recognition, especially lately with their single "bad day" (which i love! :)).
*note: i might be totally wrong..... but than again thats not new!
Resin Dogs - create so much energy and atmosphere live - probably my fave gigs to date

Fuel are quite big in America. They've headlined their own tours on many occasions.

Yeah, they get good airplay on JJJ. They are one of those bands who I wouldn't get their album, and I can't remember the name of their songs, but when they are on the radio, ya know the words and like the song.
The Hitman
augie march
and badly drawn boy - I love their album "The hour of bewilderbeast" but I never ever hear of them, at least not from this country.

It's a small world. I know Pat the new bass player in the band and I've supported Dallas Crane once or twice in my band the Casanovas.

Just acquired the best of The Church. What a great CD - very under rated IMHO.
Fat Pizza

The Louisville Sluggers - swing/jazz
The Porkers - hardcore ska
The Lucksmiths - pop
All have a great sense of humour to back up their musical talents.

I like Fat Pizza I like!!
Bands that really deserve more recognition include Strung Out, No Use for a Name, Millencolin and Pennywise. Yes, I know these guys are fairly big in the alternative scene, but the poo all over most of the so-called 'alternative' bands that make it through to the mainstream.

Thanks Goalden Hawk.
If those bands are in the same class as either the Porkers or the Louisville Sluggers, I'll have to check them out.

No probs mate.
Well they are more punk than ska...but if you are after good Aussie ska bands, off the top of my head I can think of OiSka, Commissioner Gordan, Addiction 64, Wiseacre and the Mad Dash....all these bands are top notch, you can get most of their CD's from Missing Link in Flinders Lane.
