NAB Cup aside, what kind of start are we hoping for to 2006?
Our early draw has us playing
Rd 1 Geelong at Skilled Stadium,
Rd 2 Essendon (Gabba)
Rd 3 St Kida (Dome)
Rd 4 Richmond (Gabba)
Rd 5 West Coast (Subi)
Rd 6 Sydney (Gabba)
I would almost be happy with a 3-3 start from those games, probably winning our home games, although I'd say we are a fair chance to be 4-2 which I would consider to be an excellent start.
What do we all think?

If we're 4-2 after Round 6 (with no major injuries) I'll be doing cartwheels. We are playing basically the 3 flag favourites all away from home and the premiers (who nearly always beat us) at home. 3-3 with Subiaco, Skilled Stadium and St Kilda at the Dome out of the way will be an excellent start.

We need to be at least 4-2. Nothing less.
Most players, fit and firing, not suspended.
New training and fitness staff. This has increased by 3 since Starch left.
No excuses.

Gee that is a tough draw...3-3 would be a good start, although to really a dint this year we would wont to beat one of St Kilda, WC or Geelong 1st up away from home aswell as win all out home games.
Tough ask though, but I still think St Kilda are under a lot of pressure and tend to fold under such circumstances and unless they've found a magic remedy for this I will give us a chance against them, even after being flogged by a gazillion points at the same ground in Rd 22.

We've got a godd record against Geelong, 4-1 in our favour over the last three years, so I'll give that to a season fresh Lions.
Essendon game is definitely pointing towards a Lions victory
St Kilda game will be pretty close, I think the boys will have something to prove after the last tragic meeting. Odds are with the Saints, but theres been some great battles in the past so you just never know.
Richmond at the Gabba you'd have to put your money on the Lions
West Coast at Subi is a big ask, so I'll tentatively mark that one down as a loss.
Sydney at the Gabba have in recent years been pretty close games, so while I'd tip the Lions, it'll be tight methinks. I think the increased pace of the game after the rule changes will suit the Lions better than Sydney, and will be what tips the balance in our favour.
That has us at either 4-2 or 3-3.

Last years home game run wasn't overly flash and the boys need to knock that voodoo off their backs as a priority.

I wouldnt be devastated if we lost the first three away games but the first 3 home games are must-wins IMO.
We have to make the Gabbatoir an imposing prospect for opposition teams again. We wont be a force again until we can do that.

We Must win the 3 home games to get our stronghold back to its reinging self. (The Gabba).
IMO we will loose against WCE at subi but we are a chance to win at bothe Skilled and The Dome..So if we are anywhere from 3-3 to 5-1 I'll be happy.
We have to have good luck with injuries and we Need Brown to up and firing From rnd 1:thumbsu:

Beating Geelong at Skilled might be easier than beating the Swans at the Gabba.
Sydney have had our measure of late, but Geelong will be scared of us after the hiding we gave them last time we played. Be interesting to see who they match up on Aker :D

Yes, just thinking about it brings a grin to my face...dont know about you guys...but Aker's 2 goals against Geelong last year is one of my greatest Lions moments, at the Gabba at least. Actually maybe thats worth its own thread.

Having visited the Gabba at Christmas we have an awesome home ground advantage. That ground is like the colessium, and I am sure it will be a significant advantage to us. I agree with the points regarding the rule changes and the swans, they are however a fast breaking team. Will their be a premiership hangover? I think the players have answered that with recent stunts including the 'dacking' incident.

* I turn up at the Gabba for the first game and find that Beer is the same price as it is in the rest of the state.

On my wish-list?
(Along with everyone else) re-establishing our home ground advantage at the Gabbatoir must be a priority if we're going to be a serious threat this year. That means no mercy for sides like Essendon and Richmond, and it probably means a win against Sydney as well. They've had our measure for long enough
The St Kilda game shapes as the biggest test of where we're at, especially coming off last year's debacle :( I'm expecting the boys to come out all cylinders against St Kilda and reclaim some pride. If we play with some heart this time - even if we lose - I won't be too disappointed.
Top of my wish-list however is a win against the Eagles at Subi. I was at the last one in 2001 and let me tell ya, it's been TOO LONG! Everyone makes a big deal over their good record against us over the past few years but in reality we've had a couple of opportunities to steal a Subi win, even against the odds. Our win against Freo there last year should go some way to restoring the boys' confidence. Win.
Realistically though I'd be stoked with 4-2 and pretty happy with 3-3, too.
