Did anyone by any chance hear that interview on 3AW?

Rocket spoke about Monty's injury, and said missing the match against the Dees was more precautionary than anything, and that he would be right by round 2 of the NAB Cup.
He said Griffen was flying on the track, and that they would be looking to Birssy to play a bigger role as a bit of a hard nut this season.
He spoke a bit about the VFL's new rule about kicking backwards, and the signing of Griffen and WorkSafe yesterday, and said it was great news for the club and it confirmed our positive direction over the last 18 months.
That's about all I can remember, but he sounded pretty upbeat, and raring to get into it, just like the rest of us!

Thankyou, Dogs Rule.
Great to hear Griff is doing so well, and that Birss is rated by the coach. I missed it as I was in the car, and in an area with bad reception.

He also talked about the NAB cup and the impacts on the players. Mentioned that they had a few hamstrings injuries a week after because how it drained the players. Monty will miss the NAB Cup and the decision of Grant will play is up to the player. Talked about how they are allowed to use 26 players instead of 24 and that it is unlikely that anyone will play more than 3 quarters of footy.

I only caught the tail end of it.
Said that apart from the established players, Boyd, Birss and Griffen were flying on the track.
Also mentioned that Minson and Street will be spending more time up forward with Darcy out.

I heard that as well. Rocket must see some value in resting one of the rucks up forward.

Implies what he thinks about the readiness of many of the young talls?

I watched the 2005 rnd 1 game v Pies yesterday on fox and really noticed Birss' kicking deficiencies (missing targets etc). Through pre-season this year, has anyone noticed whether he has improved this part of his game at all??

It's still a weakness althoygh I think he has improved. Played very well on Friday and will be played in the NAB cup. It's up to him to make the improvements.

yeah it's not his strong point but not his biggest weakness for me. Eade said he's looking at a hard nut role for him, which makes sense because it's probably the only role i can see him adapting to, only problem is he's not really a hard nut. Sure he's no patrick bowden and likes to find the footy but he's not a big tackler or body player. To me his biggest weakness is that he gets caught with the ball too often. He's slow to get rid of it and thinks he can break tackles, and he can't. Granted he's not a big player, has never had much body size on him, but if he can strengthen up a little he might have a future. Worth hanging on to in the event west is injured or retires.
I enjoy listening to eade pre-season, sure he's saying most of the things we've heard over the last few months but he has a way of delivering it that makes you want to get out there yourself.

I doubt Eade would like the idea of having 2 pure ruckman (ie. they have to be in ruck or on bench) in his 22 regardless of our KP strength. Having our ruckman 'rest' forward more often could mean being able to play an extra running player, and given the way we play an extra runing player in the rotation is valuable.
