So poor Rick is a little thin-skinned about the fact that he will go down in history as the person who handed the ashes back to the Poms. After all the ridiculing that Aussies have done of Tufnel, Gibbs, Cullinan and countless other victims of their winning streaks -its seems that when the boot is on the other foot he goes the blub (even more embarrassing in little johnny's support for him in today's press)

We love dishing it out but plenty of us - Rick included it seems can't cop it on the chin. I sure as hell rather share a beer with Tufnel than Ponting - you might at least smile a bit!

Gotta love Ricky Ponting but he was on the wrong horse about this one. OK, the timing was pretty lame but it was fairly inoffensive and just something to be stored up in the back of your mind if you didn't like it. Nothing too serious. We've been giving it to the Poms for years and now they can have their turn. Winners are grinners. My only issue with it was that nothing Tuffers said was remotely funny.

I guess you suffer from the same lack of a sense of humor as Ponting then.

What did Ponting actually say that you would characterise as him having a sook?

The comments that I've seen attributed to him have all been pretty measured.

He's basically said that the timing wasn't ideal, and that the Australians will be increasingly motivated to take back the Ashes in November. What's wrong with that?

It's not as though he's completely lost his rag and demanded an apology or an explanation.

How would you have wanted him to react?

Imagine if he had said "We don't mind being ridiculed by a former English cricketer. Besides, Tufnell's package was really funny."

Ponting has reacted with more composure than what the media and BigFooty people have been prepared to acknowledge. This idea that he's spat the dummy and is "precious" or "thin-skinned" simply doesn't correlate with the facts.

It's been completely inflated into another beat-up that the BigFooty herd are more than happy to buy into.

It wasn't the content, it was the timing. Some people are pig headed, aren't they.

Just for the record, I thought Tufnell's segment was funny, and I'm surprised by Ponting's reaction to it. But before certain English cricket supporters start accusing Ponting of not having a sense of humour, they would do well to remember the time Ian Botham and other members of the English Test team walked out of a funtion when comedian Gerry Connolly was performing his famous impersonation of the Queen.

The great one (Sir Shane) said it was funny and we cant take ourselves to seriously all the time, thats how he should have reacted

Good to see Pontings wife is on here defending him again

Blues_Man, we have done it to other countries so often yet you are having a go at every poster who says Ponting was a sook?
Are you a hypocrite or an idiot?

I didn't see it but i read wat tuff said in the paper... To be honest it wasn't that funny at the time...although if he had said it in front of English fans it would have been.
IMO it was the wrong time to say it at AUSTRALIA'S night of nights.
Ponting wasn't sooking, what he said was right.
If i captained Australia i know i wouldn't be laughing...

especially if when you captained them you put the Poms in and cost your country the ashes. that would dampen your sense of hunmour I guess.

easty - welcome back ol' son! can you believe these sad fruits defending Ponting for being a sour ass. they would be the first to p1ss emselves at the poms when they were down. not suprisingly the most miserable of the lot is a Carlton fan - ingrained unhappiness I guess.

You could say a lot of things cost us the ashes...but yes a big mistake.
Some people say Warney cost us with them 2 dropped catches yet forget about the 40 wickets he took.

Yet Warney can see the funny side of Tuffas jokes about him, see the difference?

Macpie, dont worry about Mrs Ponting, being a Tasmanian and Blues fan, well Ponting is the only thing decent in their miserable life :p :D

It just ********es me off, when a player gets injured and the next best in line for his position is a Victorian, they ask someone from NSW to bat out of position

They play NSW 2nd XI bowlers before trying bowlers from other states outside QLD or NSW

Oh well, guess we will have to live with winning Pura Cups with the 'worst side in the comp'
