View Full Version : Princess Park Game
They played a three quarter game this week with proper umpires and NAB cup rules where used.
Not going to go into a full in depth review as i am sure others will add their thoughts.
Just a negative to start with , a few guys needs to sharpen up their skills in the coming weeks as at times there where some simple skill errors being made.
To the game and Hirdy was great. Lucas and Bradley had a great battle for the whole game, Lucas kicked a few goals but Bradley also got plenty of rebound and marked well. Campo played well. Reynolds was beaten early on Hird but played very well in the last two quarters up forward. Jobe was a little patchy early bet he got going after quarter time and finished well. Winderlich was once again very good, got plenty of the ball in all quaters and his running to create options was excellent. I see Demspey got another mention on the club sites review , not sue why as although he didnt play badly he wasnt in the best ten or so for mine. Got a few touchs and his disposal was good. Ryder got a few taps against Hille but his around the ground play wasnt all that flash and it is an area he will have to work on. Dyson looked good. Richard Cole played for two quarters but was used only in the red forward line and was hardly sighted , looked like he was just having a run around without getting too much into the action. Heff didnt do much to start with but got a few touch's later on without dominating. Hille was good , moved around well. Lee was much better this week with some good leads and solid marking but his kicking was way off.Hocking did very well in the latter half of them game, took a couple of nice marks up forward and kicked a couple of goals.

As a neutral and I have a soft spot for Essendon, just wondering how Brett Stanton went? One of my favs. :)

Yep he has played both games but hasnt done anything outstanding in either game.
My thoughts on what I saw, that being a half (or as it turns out, 2/3rds).
1. Would like a flyer to have been available giving the numbers of all the players. I didn't know the new players, or some of the fringe ones. And both sides had a number 8 - one was Winda, but who was it on the black side?
2. The Bradley/Lucas contest was fascinating. Lucas probably won, but that had as much to do with the amount of support and delivery of his team mates as his own work. Bradley was good, the only issue is he was sometimes a little loose, looking for his own ball. That would probably not hurt him normally, but the reds had a lot of turn overs, and that sometimes punished him.
3. Winda. Will make this comment as Ant555 mentioned him. Yes, he got a lot of outside ball. BUT, and this has been my critiscm of him in the past, I thought he was very poor with his decision making when he had it.
4. Talking of decision making, Watson looks a beauty. Bit slow in the first quarter, but in the second he was one of the reds best. Still not fast, but I don't really care about that. He gets the ball (including at centre bounces), and his disposal was always extremely smart. Created play, rather than just getting the ball.
5. Hille. Dominated round the ground, but in my view his tapwork is still not good enough. Question whether it will ever be if he can't beat an 18yr old.
6. Stanton. Would like to have seen him do better, although he seemed to be getting into it more in the second quarter.
7. Whoever Fletcher was on (Neagle, Lee?) did quite well. Lead well with limited opportunities, and given who he was on fought well. Needs to kick more accurately.
8. I was thinking, that #17 for black is playing awfully well. Who is it? Then someone near me said something and I realised it was Campo. Pity it wasn't a youngster, he absolute top class.
Thats all for now, I'll mention more if I think of it.

the guy playing on Fletch was a ring in named Flaherty.
Neagle didn't play, and Lee was up forward for the Blacks (number 32).
Rats.
But thats why we needed a flyer. I've got no idea yet what Lee or Neagle look like (or their numbers), and obviously wouldn't know this guy.
What was the score? Who won?
What was the score? Who won?
Don't know the official score (or even if there was one) but i would say the Black team won quite comfortably with Hird BOG imho. They were the more experienced side. Fletcher dominated in defence.
We would be in for a very poor season if the Red team won, considering it was virtually stocked with rookies, 1st and 2nd year players.

Come on guy's, give Bolton some credit. He played well and was one of the better players. Hope he can continue it and push for a spot up forward this year. He's tough to match up on if playing well, as was the case against Port Adelaide when he dominated Chad Cornes.

Of all the games he could have done his hammy...

I will give him credit , he did play well:thumbsu:
And to make a coment on Winderlich yes a few times he stopped and went around in a circle looking for options and he stuffed a couple of them up but in no way is he in the Bullen or Ben Haynes leauge in the decision making area.
Everyone gets stumped with what to do with it once in a while, Winders maybe a bit more than others. We'll probably notice he's a lot more than others now

How'd Henneman go?
And Ricky Dyson?

Henneman did two good things for the match that I can remember, one of which was genuinely fantastic but it probably helped that he wasn't allowed to be tackled. I wasn't watching him much however
Ricky Dyson was very good. Looking stronger than last year as well.

I didn't necessarily mean it as a huge positive, that's all I can remember him doing from three quarters of football.

You gotta love henno
Lucas, Bradley, Hird and campo were a step above most. Hocking did some nice things as did dempsey who is FAST and has A1 disposal. For me McVeigh looked good in the midfield while watson and winderlich did nothing for me. Cole is out of shape and has a LOT of work to do. Mark Bolton is a tall hf flanker. Nothing more and nothing less. If he is in good form he is hard to match up on. If he is required to use physical strength then he is in serious trouble. He has key position height but is NOT a key position player. Coaches need to play to his strengths. Incidentally maybe henneman is a similar player. He looks most comfortable when he runs with the ball.
