For as long as i can remember, Richmond have been the laughing stock in the media. Almost every week you could guarantee Richmond would headline the backpage of the paper.....but for all the wrong reasons.
It was always frustrating seeing the club you love so dearly, self-destructing and imploding at every opportunity they got. Whether it was a coach departing (and we had a few of those over the years) or a player being the very first in the AFL to test positive for Steroids, It had to happen at Richmond. Watching the Footy Show every Thursday turned into "what dirt has Eddie got on us now?" Every article wrote in the newspaper was always in a negative light and putting down the club for both on and off-field tantics.
It is seriously astonishing what a bit of stability can do to a football club. Since the arrival of Terry Wallace and the election of the new board, i feel we are no longer the mules of the media world. Every article we have had written in the past 12 months (bar the Schulz incident, which ended up being a positive for the club anyway) has been in a positive light. We can finally pick up the Herald-Sun and not worry about what we are about to read.
I think the media world finally respects the Richmond Tigers, but more importantly, the people running the show at Richmond respect the Richmond Tigers a bit more than in the past.....:thumbsu:
