Whats your greatest memory from watching the Lions at the Gabba?
Either games or quarters or just passages of play.

Aker's two straight goals from the pocket last year against Geelong is up there. Even in finals I have never seen the stadium in such a frenzy. Watching the replay after getting home I think Dennis Commetti was claiming he was going to grow a beard & bleach his hair (or something like that) just because he loved it so much.

Another that springs to mind is the win over the Bombers in 2001. It was after a heart breaking loss to Adelaide and kicked off the amazing winning streak that saw us win the cup. I think we had a negative win-loss record and I remember that the Bombers were just the hottest side going around at the time by a long way and myself and everyone around me were just in disbelief after the game.

Love to hear everyone's own great memories & moments from the Gabba and i'm sure there a lot from earlier years.

Vossy's hit on Richardson was mighty impressive.

Vossy's monster goal from next to the point of the centre square vs Collingwood. Can't recall what year it was - either 1999 or 2000.

First game I saw live at the Gabba...

The draw vs Port in 98. Sensational.

Yup, the monster goal from Vossy...

I remember a game against Carlton, a while ago maybe 2000, where we getting absolutely flogged but we kicked something like 11 goals straight in the 3rd quarter and we well back in it, but we lost the game, that 3rd quarter was just amazing, the crowd were chanting a good 5 minutes after the siren i think.

Easily Nathan Brown's final goal last year where Brisbane had been leading since about the 15 minute mark of the 1st Qtr, until Browny kicked the final score of the night, much to the delight of teh Tiger faithfull.

Nice one Dice man, I was there too and it was an absolute heart breaker...I've always noticed the Tiges for some reason always get huge support at the Gabba (even more than Pies & Bombers).

Yep, & Vossy's goal was pretty special. I won't forget the 'no rules' contest in 2002 and of course last years school bully act against the Saints & their captain in Rd 1 last year.

I know the game in 2003 where Port won by a point would have been painful but it was probally the greatest game of Australian Rules Football I've ever watched for many different reasons.

Some others...

The 1991 win by Queensland over Victoria in a "State game".

The 1995 record comeback win over Hawthorn which kicked off the Bears run into the finals for the first time and set us on the path to greatness years later.

Shaun Smith's towering mark in the goalsquare in 1995.

The 1996 1-point victory in the Qualifying Final over Essendon - with Wanganeen hitting the post from point-blank range in the dying seconds.

I think the win over West Coast in 1999 when we won by more than 100 points was pretty special. Just to look around the stadium and see the reception the crowd gave each goal. I knew we had arrived as a team that day and it made up for all the years in the wilderness.

Indeed it was. 26 seconds left with Stuart Dew kicking it out and he found Shaun Hart on the chest.

Sorry to be unoriginal, but you've hit the nail on the head for me. Those two for the atomsphere alone stand out. The Essendon game maybe marginally because that was the game when I fell deeply in love with the game, also I came away from that game convinced that we could win the whole thing, and it came to pass. Also my first year as a member too!

One day when i have the $$$ i will get to a GABBA to see the game

My fave game was when we played Adelaide in the finals when we kept them to four goals - the Adelaide Media was sooo coky and the way they were after the game was pricesless...that and the fact Lycnhy kicked more goals that the whole Adelaide team :p :D

Akers goals were increadible.

The 'No Rules' game againsted Effendon and last years Lions Vs Saints game

too many to mention

My favourite is 3/4 of the way into the last quarter of the Richmond Prelim in 2001.We couldn't lose, we had made our 1st GF.The crowd was singing the song, cheering.Awesome awesome atmosphere.

Yeah that PF in 2001 has to be way up there for me too!

That Adelaide final in 2004 was a good one. It's not often we get a Friday night game at the Gabba and the atmosphere was certainly electric - especially considering it was a very unseasonal 30+ degree afternoon/evening!

My very favourite Gabba moment had to be the day after the 2001 GF, standing on the hallowed turf and looking up to see the teams charter plane doing a lap of honour over the Gabba before landing and bringing our first cup home to Brisbane.

What about Brisbane scoring a first half record of 21.5 (131) against Fremantle in 1999. We were getting caned in Sydney, and my interest turned to the radio updates, to see if they could get at least 200 points, possibly the record score, but they went slack and only ended up with 28.13 (181).

That was an awesome effort. Marcus Ashcroft had 19 possessions in the first quarter alone.

I left the next day to drive to Adelaide to watch the Lions play their two games in Adelaide, while driving through Victoria on the Tuesday morning, the Herald Sun had a snapshop of each of his possesions. Very special effort that.

I almost forgot to mention my favorite moment.

It is a little different to many would be, but I go back to Round 22, 1998. It was Andrew Bews' last game and we won a thriller against the Saints after Loewe kicked one after the siren had sounded.

Personally, I believe that this win is what led us into the most successful era our clubs (Brisbane Bears, Fitzroy or the Brisbane Lions). I know that for me, knowing we had a new coach coming and a decent set of young players gave me hope over that summer, and I have enjoyed the ride since:thumbsu:

That win and then towelling up the Saints in round 1 the following year. Seeing Brad Boyd in full flight was a joy to see - pity about the premature end to his career...

My fav moment was getting into the 01 granny i.e. the 2001 Prelim.

Another speeeecial moment was the thumping of West Coast by 100 pts mentioned earlier, Lynchy's "choke" gesture to the suffering doggies and the Adelaide final in 03 when Vossy tore off his knee strap and gave the boys a bouyant mini-comeback against the Crows.

So hard to pick just one

First game I sawwas the comeback v Hawthorn in 95. Sitting behind the goal at the School end of the ground.

The final against Essendon in 1996- leading by 25 with 15minutes to go, only to have that comeback and Wanganeen banging one off the post in the last fewseconds- win by a point...YES!!!!

Thrashing Carlton in a final by 100 points- but the tragedy ofa Voss injury from the game

Agame in the wet against the Doggies- we didn't win, butit was an interestinggametowatch-hugelakesofwater on the field.

Beating Freo in 1996- Shaun Hart (I think) with asnap in the final minutetowin thegame.

Dominating West Coast in 1999- an 11goal first quarter and the game was over....

2002 PF v Port- I'd been gone from Australia for three years- flying back in for a week for a couple of interviews- and we kicked serious butt.

And roostersgal-hope you make the trek to the Gabba-night games are the best
