not sure having not seen a hampden league game for 3 years, but i don't think you couldn't go past Terang and Koriot and warrnambool seem to be shaping up reasonably well.

who do you play with or associated with

Has anyone got any info on Cobden? I've heard that they have picked up a couple of likely types from the SANFL that could see them hard to beat.

For such a good league this thread doesn't have much action. I've been looking on the Standard website daily but i haven't found anything writen about Kurt Nicklaus returning to Warrnambool.
This bloke is a gun, one of the best defenders in country vic and top bloke (albeit a bit of a loose dude).

Also, Sth Warrnambool have picked up a handy ruckman from La Trobe in the Ammos, Dave McMekan (spelling??). He's teaching out at a Timboon or something like that. The Hampden will be a step up but from what I've heard he'll be up to it.

Major setback for Hoppers
By David Johnston
February 10, 2006

KURT Nicklaus has quit North Albury without playing a match for the Hoppers in the Ovens and Murray league.
The Hoppers secured Nicklaus from WAFL club Perth where he played alongside Daniel Leslie last year.
But, the talented mid-fielder has accepted an attractive employment option in his former hometown of Warrnambool and will play in the Hampden league this season.
"It's very disappointing to be honest," Hoppers coach Corey Lambert said yesterday.
"When you get a bloke who is going to fill a role for you, get him all signed up, living here and then comes to you and says he has got work opportunities somewhere else he can't knock back it's disappointing.
"Moreso for the fact it's so late we are not going to get one to replace him.
"It's frustrating and disappointing."
Lambert informed the Hoppers playing group at training on Wednesday night one of the club's most sought after recruits would not be lining up at Bunton Park.
The Hoppers coach said Nicklaus' former employer at Warrnambool had offered him a role which would not be available at the end of the season.
Nicklaus finished fourth in Perth's best and fairest last season when he was used in a variety of key position roles, but the Hoppers recruited him to play as ruck rover.
In another potential major setback for the Hoppers, No.1 ruckman Sam Nevins has accepted a second round university placement in Melbourne and may not travel back to play in the O and M.
Albury recruit Daniel Maher also played at Perth last year.
Lambert said Nicklaus had relocated from Western Australia late last year and appeared settled.
"He was the one we wanted," he said.
"He came away on our camp and had a fantastic time and got on wonderfully well with all the boys.
"He is a top fellow and he feels a bit embarrassed the way things have gone.
"But, he told me he just can't knock this opportunity back."
The Hoppers have added small forward Ash Bates, who coached Quambatook in the Golden Rivers league last year.
Lambert revealed the Hoppers were among four O and M clubs to make inquiries about Japanese players Michito Sakaki and Tsuyoshi Kase, but didn't plan to pursue the possibility of the duo playing at Bunton Park.
Also showing an interest in their talents were Wodonga, Wodonga Raiders and Albury.

Interesting story about the appointment of the Hampden FNL interleague coach. One of his brothers is Brian who is coaching Horsham United in the Wimmera FL this season. The other brother is Brad who has been playing for Korooit and is mentioned in this story as an assistant yet is also supposed to be getting a clearance back to United. He's going to be a busy boy.

From The Warrnambool Standard:

HIGH HOPES
By ELIZA SEWELL
March 8, 2006

NEW Hampden interleague coach David Cassidy has earmarked a return to the glory days of division one football as his main aim in the job.

Cassidy was announced as the Hampden Football Netball League interleague coach yesterday for the May 28 country championship clash with Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.

In a one-off game, which will decide the pool B champion, Cassidy said the plan was to raise the league to the elite competition.

"I think the main part is we've got to aim to be in division one,'' Cassidy said. "From a Hampden league point of view that's the ultimate goal.

"It's a one-off game so at the end of the day the winning team goes up to division one.

"It is a challenge but an exciting challenge.''

And if any one can turn the side around it's Cassidy.

The coach famously lifted Warrnambool and District side Merrivale from wooden spooner to premier in one season.

Cassidy played in four premierships in a row under St Kilda coach Grant Thomas with Warrnambool. He gained interleague experience when he coached Warrnambool district's combined side in 1994.

However, he insisted he would not be a regulation coach with his role more about mentoring personalities.

"I don't really see myself as the coach as such,'' Cassidy said.

"These players - the best players - in the league will be coached by their coaches.

"They'll be taught their skills by their coaches and they'll be given fitness (management) by their coaches.

"It's people management I suppose and that's the way I'm looking at it.

"(It's) not necessarily coaching - it's just managing the players we've got a hold of.''
Cassidy will not be going it alone.

He will be supported by Mark Dwyer, his brother Brad Cassidy and Stephen Hammond who will be his assistants.

Cassidy said he hoped the new one-match format would make playing for the league more attractive to key players.

"It's a one-off game,'' Cassidy said.

"A few years ago there were probably three games.

"I just think it will create a lot more interest.''

The job will be a fast and furious 12-week stint for Cassidy who is returning to football after two years on the bench.

Cassidy said he had more than 40 players in mind already to be chosen for the initial squad. The squad would be announced as early as the second round of the season, he said. "We'll play form players and that's something that I've always
strived to do,'' Cassidy said.

From a Geelong FL perspective, Camperdown have picked up some good players in Torin Baker, Russell Whiteford and Jeremy Larkham! Baker and Whiteford are outstanding midfielders and Larkham is a young ruckman with good size and aggression.

Our boys may find it hard to beat the MPFL but as Whispers has alluded to the word from Camperdown is that these three guys can play. Hopefully they will add depth to the squad. It would be great to see us back in div 1.,We have lost a bit of profile recently with Colac going etc. Perhaps the downers will be hard to beat.

Charity match fall clips Magpie's wings

March 13, 2006

CAMPERDOWN'S Troy Stephens will spend eight weeks in plaster after breaking his leg during a practice match at Leura Oval on Friday night.

Stephens, a Victorian country representative, was playing his first game since 2004 and was anticipated to be a key part of the Magpies' season.

The 28-year-old landed awkwardly after a marking contest and limped from the field.

"I thought I'd just rolled my ankle," Stephens said.

The Camperdown butcher, who has captained the Magpies and featured as an assistant coach in the past, broke his fibula near his ankle and said it was the first serious injury he had had during his career.

He will see a doctor on Wednesday to reassess the injury and hopes for good news.

"I'll be keen to get back but I can't really afford to get another injury with work,'' he said. ``I'll just see what happens after the plaster is off.''

Camperdown president Peter Conheady said the club was thrilled when Stephens returned to football after travelling last year. And while the injury was a setback, Conheady hoped to have his charge back before the end of the season.

"Naturally it was disappointing,'' Conheady said.

"He was very keen to get back playing footy.

"I'm sure he will recover from the injury.

"We hope to have him back this year.'' Camperdown went down to Cobden in the charity practice match which was played over five quarters. The match raised more than $5000 for 10-year-old Jarrod Fryers who has cerebral palsy.

His parents Gary and Louise need to raise about $32,000 to modify their car to enable Jarrod's wheelchair to be rolled in.

"Stephens' injury was a negative but the money we raised for Jarrod was a real positive,'' Conheady said.

From the Warrnambool Standard:

HFNL moves aren't all black and White
By GREG GLIDDON
March 17, 2006

THE fate of reluctant South Warrnambool ruckman Tom White dominates pre-season speculation in the Hampden Football Netball League.

With the season kicking off on April 1, South and reigning premier Terang Mortlake are locked in a tug-of-war for White's considerable talents.

The Roosters have rejected his clearance application to the Bloods, with negotiations understood to be continuing between the two clubs.

With two weeks to go before the season gets under way some other big names are still working through the finer details of deals which will see them move on.

South has already picked up a few recruits in its bid to become a top three contender this year and would be keen to keep White on the roster.

Its signings include Shannon Carter and Brad Umbers from Dennington and Isaac Hughson from Old Collegians.

The Bloods will head into another premiership defence without popular midfield star Danny Stone, who has headed off to the Northern Bullants in the VFL.

Also, Lex Moloney has headed overseas while Matthew Heffernan has already joined Koroit.

On the plus side for the Bloods is the return of ruckman Darren Little to help out youngster Tim Ward.

Should White earn a clearance, then the Bloods rucking division suddenly looks to be the most powerful in the competition.

Camperdown will be bolstered with the inclusions of midfield dynamo Torin Baker as senior coach and the return of Troy Stephens, although Stephens will miss the first half of the year after breaking his leg in a trial game.

The Magpies have lost some experience with David Mills and Simon Tolland transferring to Kolora-Noorat, while brothers Andrew and Matthew Rylance are heading to the Timboon Demons.

Cobden won the race for former AFL player Marcus Picken as its senior coach, but has lost Wayne Robertson to Irrewarra-Beeac and Daniel Beard and Anthony Reed to Kolora-Noorat.

North Warrnambool Eagles will welcome the return of Liam Ryan from a year at Uni Blues, while Matthew Jellie is also back from overseas.

The other big inclusion is the return of key position utility Ricky Smedts, who was set to join his brother Kalon at Labrador in Queensland but has returned home.

Port Fairy's star power has been diminished with the loss of Ronnie Burns and John McNamara, while Sam Fary, Luke Tennant and Andrew Sharp have also departed.

Koroit has followed the path of Terang Mortlake's successful 2005 recruiting campaign by looking towards the Warrnambool and District league for its additions. East Warrnambool's Ben Quarrell, Deakin University pair Brett Carey and Brett Waterson, former Shark Joe Woonton, Dennington's Justin Lynch and Merrivale's Nathan McInerney have crossed to Victoria Park.

The Saints would expect to figure prominently towards the end of the year despite the loss of Jason Mifsud (St Kilda), Peter McDonald (retirement), Nick Standaar and Caleb Isles (Maroochydore) and Shane Bell to Dennington.

Warrnambool is expected to be the big improver after strengthening its personnel.

Grant McCarthy is back, along with Kurt Niklaus and Drew McCaskill. It has also secured Dustin McCorkell from Geelong West St Peters and Denver Artz from Hampton Rovers. Brad Sullivan is another who could be back with the Blues after a fruitless season with North Warrnambool Eagles. He has put in a clearance.

See Warrnambool are not charging ground entry this season. They are attempting to attract more people to the football. Although it sounds radical if they get more people to the footy they might pick up more members, bar takings and juniors.Sounds like a win-win to me and great for the supporters in the Hampden league:thumbsu:

Bold initiative by Warrnambool but of course it helps if you have a huge pokies venue inside the confines of Reid Oval. Let them in for free and encourage them to visit the pokes while there.

FREE FOOTY PLAN
By GREG GLIDDON
March 29, 2006

WARRNAMBOOL Football Club will throw open its gates to spectators this season free of charge in an initiative designed to get fans back to games.

The Blues' nine home games at Reid Oval, beginning with Saturday's opening round clash of the Hampden Football Netball League season against Camperdown, will be free to fans.

The move, which has been discussed by the club's board for the past two years, was officially given the go-ahead at a league meeting on Monday night.

The club's football chairman Allan Robb said the decision had been based on both club finances and as a way of getting people back to the club.

''As a financial decision, the money we were getting from gate takings was barely enough to cover the cost of the security and gatekeepers that are employed at the ground.

''The most important thing is that we believe we need to get people back to the footy and the netball and we believe this is a way we can achieve that.''

Mr Robb said the club hoped to encourage new faces to come and watch both football and netball on weekends.

''What we are hoping is that we will get young boys and girls to come to the footy,'' he said. ''It may end up costing us a few dollars at the end, but we think the club will be better off in the future.''

Free entry could have ramifications for neighbouring Hampden clubs such as South Warrnambool and North Warrnambool Eagles which will remain with the standard $10 an adult entry fee for the season.

However, Mr Robb said he hoped the flow-on effect would benefit other sides for return matches throughout the year.

He said the move had been generally well accepted when announced to clubs on Monday night.

Mr Robb said the club would review finances at the end of the season to see whether the experiment had been successful before committing to the policy permanently.

An entry fee will remain for the Hampden finals which are played at Reid Oval.

Hampden president Alan Rourke said he applauded the club's decision as a way of bringing people back to the game. Camperdown supporters will be the first to benefit from the free entry when the Blues and the Magpies square off on Saturday.

''Whilst Camperdown and I'm sure most other clubs need to find every source of revenue just to survive, I understand that Warrnambool's situation is unique,'' Camperdown president Peter Conheady said.

''It's not my position to judge what's best for another club.

''But I'm sure that any Camperdown supporters who arrive at the gate on Saturday will be delighted that there is no $10 entry fee.''

Reid Oval co-tenant, Warrnambool and District Football Netball League club East Warrnambool, will continue to charge an entry fee for its home games.

Yesterday the Bombers said they had no plans for a similar arrangement this year or in the foreseeable future.

''We'll still be charging at the gate,'' East club spokesman Robin Konigson said.

''We don't employ security, so we do have a big reliance on our gate takings.''

No footy appeals lodged
By GREG GLIDDON
March 31, 2006

As of late yesterday afternoon, Hampden region clubs had not placed any appeals in relation to clearances for the opening round of the season which begins tomorrow.

Hampden league president Alan Rourke, who is handling the appeals process, said he had been surprised that no clubs had requested an appeal at this late stage.

''I'm handling the entire Hampden region and I haven't received one appeal as yet, not one,'' he said.

The lack of action means players like Hampden ruckman Tom White, who hopes to gain a clearance to join Terang Mortlake, will be forced to sit out this weekend unless he was to gain a clearance today.

White was unlikely to play in the first match anyway as he is still recovering from ankle ligament damage sustained in a basketball mishap.

Meanwhile, Warrnambool will be relieved to know that it has secured key forward Brad Sullivan after his third clearance from North Warrnambool Eagles back to the Blues was approved on Wednesday.

Camperdown was also given a boost yesterday when the clearance for Grovedale's Jeremy Larcombe was finally sealed meaning the talented player can line up for the Magpies against the Blues tomorrow.

White transfer appeal denied
By ELIZA SEWELL
April 13, 2006

SOUTH Warrnambool ruckman Tom White was stunned last night by an appeal board's decision not to allow his clearance to his favoured club Terang Mortlake.

The 21-year-old was readying to play for the Bloods but a South West Border Regional Appeal Board dismissed White's appeal after three clearances had already been rejected.

The board of Peter Burke, Robert Anderson and Ian Yewers agreed White should stay at South at the hearing held at the Hampden league headquarters on Lava Street in Warrnambool.

"I wasn't expecting it, I don't think anyone was, I was shocked," White said.

"I was assuming we'd win and I'd be playing for Terang Mortlake."

The Hampden league representative ruckman was bewildered last night and unsure about his playing future.

"It's doing my head in stressing about it. I'm not sure what I'm going to do," he said

"The last thing I want to do is take a year off footy but it might come to that.

"I'll have to think about it over the weekend."

South Warrnambool president Gary Walsh was pleased with the decision and said it was a win for junior football.

"It was a tribunal decision for junior football," he said.

"When you put so much time into junior players it's nice to think you're going to get 50 senior games out of them."

He said volunteer junior coaches should be encouraged by the decision, which supported player development.

"Tom White is a South Warrnambool player," he said.

"Obviously, South Warrnambool is very pleased to have Tom White as a player.

"He has played all his junior football with South Warrnambool and just 35 senior games.

"We're very pleased with the result. It encourages all sides to bring up and develop juniors."

Terang Mortlake coach Adam Dowie could not be reached for comment last night.

Stone, Schrama in
By GREG GLIDDON
April 21, 2006

TERANG Mortlake last night welcomed back one of its premiership stars with Danny Stone returning to the Bloods line-up to face South Warrnambool.

The young midfield star and runner-up in last year's Maskell Medal is a welcome addition to the side which will face the Roosters without one of its leaders in Matthew Irving, who is unavailable for the clash with a wedding in Queensland.

Also back for the premier is Simon Schrama, who will slot nicely into the backline which lacked some experience in the 12-point loss to Camperdown two weeks ago.

Nathan Couch has been omitted from the side.

Coach Adam Dowie said last night that Stone would continue with VFL club Northern Bullants throughout the year, but with the VFL team up against Tasmania, which doesn't have a reserves team, it gave him a chance to return home this
week.

``He hasn't played for a few weeks with injury,'' Dowie said. ``But it's a great opportunity for him to come back.

``He bleeds red and blue and really wants to come back and we're really happy to have him back.''

Dowie said the Bloods lacked experience down back and he was glad to welcome back Schrama.

``We had Simon Densley on (Brian) Hinkey last time and he had three goals on him at quarter-time, through no fault of the young fella, not one was from a mark.

``Things just haven't been going for us so far but I'd rather have things go against us now than later in the season.''

Opponent South Warrnambool has been forced into making one change, with veteran Stephen Anderson out with a broken arm suffered early in the Roosters win against Warrnambool last start.

Into the side comes Shannon Carter, who has been named on the forward line.

The Saints made just the one forced change to the side that was too strong for North Warrnambool Eagles last start.

Into the side comes Ben Walsh at the expense of Karl Dwyer who is out with a niggling quad injury.

Cobden has made one change from the side that smashed Port Fairy for three quarters two weeks ago.

Forward Sam Dunbar comes back into the side after serving his one-match suspension while Brendan Hickey is the player to make way, named as the first emergency.

Warrnambool plays host to North Warrnambool Eagles.

The Blues have been able to regain Andrew McPherson from a hamstring injury but young gun Jason Rowan is set to miss an extended period again after he was injured at training on Tuesday night.

Rowan suffered a broken thumb when he got it wedged and is expected to miss between four and six weeks. It's the second serious break the youngster has suffered in two years after he missed the majority of last season with a broken jaw.

The Eagles have made two changes.

Adam McLeod and Ross Levett come into the side to add to add experience and dash.

The final clash sees Camperdown host Port Fairy.

Camperdown has made one change to its side with Jason Kerger coming in at the expense of Ben Finlay.

The struggling Seagulls will have to do without three players this week.

Dean Hilton will miss with an ankle problem, Josh Sobey with a knee injury and Richard Farley is out with the flu.

Inclusions are Chris Dyson, David Neal, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, and veteran Alistair Down.

Can anyone assist?? My club is desperately trying to find a past player for a 50th year premiership anniversary..The player 'Alf Clarke' we believe may have subsequently played in the Warrnambool area after our 1956 Premiership...he would now be about 70 years old and we have been told he married a school teacher who was posted to this area. He originally came to Mentone after winning a Morrish Medal in the VFL for Carlton (could play a bit) and before Carlton he played for Golden Square in Bendigo...so if you know anyone who might be able to assist or even ask anyone you know from the late 50's era about the name Alf Clarke and see if it prompts any info, we would be very grateful...he is the one player we are missing at present and out reunion is on May 27th...cheers c/- Mentone FC ...post a reply as I will be checking regularly.

Even with Kurt Niklaus in the Blues' line-up? Seriously though, how does the big Barra rate in the league?

He would have to be one of the best defenders wouldn't he.

In the WAFL last year, especially in the 2nd half, he was as good as any full back going around

Don't know much about Harkin but I will find out what I can. Any tips for this week as I struggled last week and seem to nbe of the mark about an all Warrnambool Grand Final. The Old fella kicked another bag for Camperdown last week:thumbsu:

harkin is a very good footballer, bit light, but has a great leap and reads the play very well, playing with there seinors and i heard he ignored going to falcons try outs, other good young players from the cobden area are rohan couch, tim horan and ricky sullivan....good 2 watch

Hey fellas, just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of insight in to a couple of players, both guys from South Warnambool in the past.
They are playing with us down at Sunshine and go very well.
Russell Douglas who played there last year and Stenhouse who played juniors there but came to us from the SANFL, have fitted in well down here and wanted to know how they went up there at South.
Cheers!

Hey guys - a little OT but I'll be down in Warnambool on the weekend (may even drop in to see the big Warrnambool v South clash on Sunday if it's free admission).

More importantly however can anyone tell me if there is a pub in the district which shows Fox Footy? From what I can tell not one pub in Warnambool has it due to cost. Am happy to drive to Port Fairy if required as I'm keen to see the Roos v Tiges game tomorrow.

Many thanks.

Gents my first post on this forum, but I feel i have to inspire you guys to keep the rest of us Ex Hampdenites informed! I'm keen to get your opinons on how you see the HFNL finals going this week?

The standand (online) takes a politcally correct approach, so i/we need some hard hitting opinons! Any upsets predicted ? Any teams suffering major injuries ? Always seems to be the undoing of the favoured teams...

Koroit have found some late form by the look. Not sure if they are a threat, however they would love being up against it I'm tipping ?

Did Camperdown have many out on the weekend ? or were South simply far to good for them ?

Cheers

Na... Haven’t seen enough games...

Apparently there is a kid from Camperdown who people are ravving about Adam Harris?

Tip for GF South to make it... But Sercombe to experience of Camperdown or the bloods/cats. I have only seen a couple of games Camperdown looked the goods at one of them. They have a good mix and if it comes together they would be hard to stop.

Terang will be a contender if they get a taste of it again. However, they will be up against it this week with a resurgent Koroit. Did you see the game last week ? Are they a threat to Terang ?

30th August 2006, 11:59

Koroit will be dangerous as a result of probably exceeding their expectations (especially their expectations a month ago). Belief seems to come with the Jumper out there.

Cobden looked dangerous a month ago but seem have lost a little momentum. Maybe they have been waiting for the finals to again fire up. They like Koroit culturally play better when they are up against it.

The Koroit comeback in 2003 to win the premiership was one of the greatest efforts I have seen from a side up against. Impressive way to break the drought 50+ pts down at Half time! Misfid as much as everyone loved to hate him… His second half will have to go down in history as one of the best performances in a GF. "Give me the fifty"

Grant Thomas is available. Had a decent record with the Blues in the 80's didn't he?

You amaze me!
14th September 2006, 10:35
Grant Thomas' only other know coaching job (that i know of) before St Kilds was at old xavs in the VAFA. Half way through the season old xavs on the bottom of the A grade ladder. Thomas sacked. Xavs won the next 10+ and the flag. Not sure if the catholics would have him back. But im sure Warrnambool would extend the hand! However, i think the corporate world would be calling him.

Shaping up as a beauty this weekend... Camperdown should let the saints through as its obvious they cant beat south. They have failed in a couple of recent attempts and the week only lengthens the gap for mine...

In saying that Camperdown would be favourites this weekend would they not?

Koroits dream run should come to an end. However, if the saints get through it will be on like donkey kong!

Congrats to Ben Harris obviously a deserving winner. Its probably the only competition (or one of very few) where the favoured players have won the league b & f. I seldom reward umpires but they have done a very good job in rewarding the best players. In saying that i dont know the break down of the votes!

Grant Thomas coached Warrnambool to four straight premierships in the late eighties. The rumon going around today is that Jason Misfud will coach Warrnambool next year, as it looks as if he won't be retained by St. Kilda.

Camperdown are favorites for the Prelim, however they are quite a slow side and Koroit's run on the wide open spaces of the Reid Oval could prove to be an upset.

South look like they will win the Premiership in the seniors and reserves but Terang-Mortlake are the real smokeys in the Under 18's. Got some quality players back from the seniors.

Hi Guys,
Watched Koroit last week and could have won by another 6-7 goals if they'd kicked straight in the 3rd qrt. Hinkley will probably miss so couldn't see Koroit getting beaten and I think it would make for a great grand final.

Great to see the Warrnambool coach get sacked. Apparently he was the one at the start of the year that told Merrivale they might as well take the 17 year olds Seddon and Mackarona as he wouldn't consider them for seniors at any stage. Result was these 2 blokes wanted a go at seniors and left. End result is Seddon gets best on ground in GF and they finish 2nd and 3rd in the B&F. Granted this isn't Hampden but letting young talent like that slip through their fingers wasn't good.

I think Mifsud will be looking for a fair bit of cash to coach and not too sure his previous form really warrants it. Koroit always had the cattle during his reign and he never really produced, although he did win a premiership.

Port Fairy's coach should be an interesting one to watch. Hopefully they get someone that supports their talent from the ground up.

I think you have to hand it to Beinke this year. Always a great supporter of his young talent and keeping a good feel at the club. His dedication deserves to be rewarded.

Great to see the link started as it is a big gap in the regional site considering the number of teams in the region and the interest down here.

Any truth in the rumour that Joe McLaren will be captain coach of Terang Mortlake next year?

You amaze me!
15th September 2006, 15:59
This more like it... Really warming up HFNL thread!!!

Joe McCalren has been approached to Capt/Coach Terang as Koroit i told would never give him the gig! However, i believe his brother would hold him at Koroit. Chris is more likely to coach Koroit than Joe... I think he is held in much higher regard as a coach type.

Misfid is held in pretty high regard by st kilda and apparently is still required. However, im sure the new coach will dictate who he wants to assist him. Misfid is good coach. People skills may at times let him down. But he did get the best out of a lot of blokes particularly the younger ones. His demanding nature often upset guys but i think in the AFL/VFL environment he would prove to be quite a different coach. Love him or hate him I honestly believe he is a good strategic thinker. Bloody hard to coach let alone be a key player as well!

I wouldnt pencil in Sth just yet. Koroit get over the line they will not fear the roosters!

Re cole: i dont know to much but if thats accurate regarding merrivale boys he is kidding himself! Top players in most district league clubs could play Hampden seniors and more than hold their own.

Joe definitely has aspirations to coach and with his experience feels he shouldn't have to apply for a job- I agree. There aren't many 100 game AFL blokes floating around that live locally. Whether he can coach or not I can't say. I think working on his old man's dairy farm which is near Koroit and the travelling might be a hiccup to coaching Terang.

Mifsud is a very smart strategic thinker but I still question his results down here. I think he may have been too intense for a country league and that is why he'll probably do well at a higher level. Love him or hate him, he has done bloody well to get where he is and has worked hard to get there.

My mail on Cole is pretty accurate.

I'd love to see a South v Koroit Grand Final as I think it would be a better game than the allternative.

- we all know jason misfud is a top coach.

- joe mclaren isnt the coaching type and if he do's get the job, he will be no good at it. rumour is that he has been approached to coach hamilton next yr

-beinke's future looks dodgy as a coach cos rumour has it that he doesnt know whats going on, had to call in blokes to help him out on the bench this year.

-remember "badhairday" that WDNFL is a very poor standard of football, way below the hampden league!!!

everyone is jumping on the koroit ban wagon for tomorows game, remember not long ago that koroit were struggling and camperdown were on fire!!! i believe with stephen sinnott, ben harris and barny hinkley up foward, they will be too strong and win by 28 points!!
