it sounds as if he wont play until maybe Rnd.5/6/7 ish, so why not throw him on the LTI list and promote one of our exciting rookies?

it seems to me all of harry, cox, nicholls and toovey could play seniors (maybe not toovey?) in the first month - anyone else agree?

I would have thought that Nicholls would be a shoe-in for promotion, how has he looked during pre-season.

Doubtful. Not enough time to really give a rookie a proper shot at it, and Rusling may be back in the VFL earlier - round 1-2 early.

If it is to occur, O'Brien would surely be in the box seat, with Nicholls and Cox next in line. Toovey's injured foot may have set him back.

Each team is able to have a nominated rookie I think, I don't know the regulations, but they can play without being promoted, I think. Rusling could be chucked on the LTI list I suppose, and if they do, I reckon Cox is a chance, considering he is a forward.

I'm not sure when they can register him. Whether it starts at NAB Cup or at Round 1. If it's at round 1 it may be too late and Rusling wouldn't be able to get back early enough. If they can do it as soon as possible since our first game is around 7 weeks away that would mean the soonest possible time Rusling can return is round 3. I think.
Rookies can play in the NAB Cup anyway.

Rus will return somewhere around Round 3-4, so I don't see the need to put him on the LTI list. Knowing MM, he probably wouldn't have played Rus in the seniors straight away.

where's your proof that he'll return in round 3-4?

It's not a serious injury, and there's about 6 weeks left before the Home and Away season begins. Why wouldn't he be back by then?

How about we actually play a game before considering promoting rookies.

Yeah his injury would only keep him out for eight weeks max you would think. So you would imagine he would be right by round 4

Then how's about we assess just how many rookies will be a walk up start for our starting 22, or even starting 25!

I bet it's a grand total of zero.

Figjam, depending on who you talk to, O'Brien might crack the 25.

Not unless we have injuries in our backline.

There is no point promoting rookies in February (when their only form is on the training track) for a player who may miss only 4-5 games. If, and its a big if, somebody puts their hand up during the practice matches, then the end of March is the time to make this decision.

I bet it's a grand total of zero.Maybe Harry given he's played. The reality is that unless the rookie is going to be picked in the seniors there is no point promoting him.

I remember with Bucks last year that he had to be out for a minumum of 8 games to go on the LTI list. I imagine this would be the case for Rusling as well. I'm nout sure whether it has to be 8 games, or just 8 weeks for an injury before someone can be promoted. Harry would be first in line.

Are you drunk or something? With the lack of pace and athleticism in our backline, Harry O'Brien would be very much in contention for the best 22 (if promoted from rookie list).
