View Full Version : Nine flogging Foxtel coverage
Why are channel Eddie flogging Foxtels coverage of the South African v Australia series ?
Tony was crapping on about it on sunday and today. Now they've even got the phone number on screen so you can get hooked up to Foxtel.
I've never seen them flog any other Aussie overseas tours shown on Foxtel.

Correction, Tony Greig is flogging foxtel coverage.
There's a difference.
Gotta team up against 7,10. Curse those evil channels.

Just so people watch Foxtel, and not channel 7 or 10

PBL, who own nine, also own a part of foxtel, hence it is profitable for them to advise the advantages of foxtel during 9's telecast.
I have a feeling Tony Grieg is also commentating the series on fox.

Mark Nicholas was flogging it before.
It sounds like Tony is going to be commentating the series on Foxtel. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/puke.gif

PBL own Channel Nine.
PBL own 25% of Foxtel (another 25% is owned by News Corp, with 50% by Telstra).
PBL own 50% of The Premier Media Group, which produces Fox Sports (with the other 50% owned by News Corp).
Ain't media competition in Australia great!

But they've never given Fox any plugs before.
LIONS then DAYLIGHT

It could also be because of the spike in interest in cricket after the Ashes.
South Africa will be a hard task in South Africa and i'd suspect Foxsports will rate fairly well.

I thought it was strange. It was actually Nicholls who flogged it.
There was a rumour it was going to be on SBS.

Would be probably the first time a Comm network has plugged a Pay network....
I wonder why .... and also, how is this legal considering the ACCC?
A Free to air network pumping up another network!
Surely this would be in breach of there license? I am unsure why channel 7 hasn't promoted this?
BTW I don't work for 7 or 10.
But (and I stand corrected) hasn't Foxtel advertised on free-to-air before?

ye i read that rumour too, are sbs going to have it or not

It seems not. They'd be advertising it by now if they were, though I suppose they could in theory still make a last minute bid.
It was also reported that they were interested in showing India's tour of Pakistan.

SBS's coverage of the Ashes was good enough that they should really start seriously thinking about buying rights to broadcast tours
They'd get hell lot of ratings outta it

Plenty of times. The cheap install deals are always on.
Don't think Ch 9 has shown many of Fox's "watch the Comm Games on 7 channels 24/7 for $50" ads though.
What is more irritating is the "hold a sign in the crowd with BAckyard Blitz this Friday" ads, or even worse, the middle of the over 10 second Ch 9 promo for Tempataion or whatever. It's as if the advertising people suddenly realised that in most overs, you have 10 seconds of boring time whilst the guy walks back to his mark that you can use to plug your upcoming shows, leaving the 30 sec break at the end of the over to paid adverts!
Also, anyone notice that they don't show the Tiny Grig framed memorabilia anymore, just the web address? I reckon they tried to make Tiny pay for the air time!

Yes, very grating and one must assume that it is going to get even worse.
