Collingwood season preview
15 February 2006 Herald Sun
Mike Sheahan (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,18149257%255E19742,00.html)
COLLINGWOOD went cradle-snatching at the draft table late last year, suggesting a major rebuilding program.
A logical strategy on the face of it, too, given the Magpies finished 13th and 15th in the past two years.
Yet, they also could argue the short term would take care of itself, with four immediate additions to their best team this year.
Nathan Buckley, Josh Fraser, Anthony Rocca and Rhyce Shaw played just 32 games between them last season.
Yeah i read it, dont think much of it as it comes from mike sheahan, i dont like him as he always contradicts himself and changes his mind, cant to stick with what he wrote. Personally I think we will do better then what he says.

The first thing I saw when I read/looked at it in the paper was once again, Sheahan putting faith in Tristen Walker.
Not only is Walker one of the worst and luckiest footballers currently playing, Mike puts him at CHB, same spot as he did last year, and all failed in 2005, what is going to happen in 2006 Mike -, I hope Mike is right, considering this guy was kept at the club, as several axings occured.

Yeah i know, he really has to do something special and prove himself this year or else its good bye and good riddens, i would like to see him do well but atm he is just a waste of space, but see how 2006 turns out first before i judge him again.

Can't see Tex at CHB. His best bet is from full forward, where he showed glimpses in the early stages of 2005. Getting into the side is the next thing...

Yeah, Cloke, Rocca, Tarrant, Rusling filling up top spots as KPF
Hes' got the easy bit right - our list is aging and we have a hole in our second tier. But thats not news to anybody. But most our aging players are still only 28 and have 3-4 years of footy left - so is not quite "now or never" like he suggests.
Hes picked our 22 most well known players, not our 22 best. The only "well known" players he has left out are our most publicly bagged players, Rhyce Shaw and Jason Cloke.
He's got no clue. Examples:
Lockyer Morrison and Walker would not make our starting backline. Only Lockyer is any chance of making the 25.
Lonie is not in our best 22
Maxwell is in our best 18, as is a fully fit Rhyce Shaw and Guy Richards. Dane Swan is in our best 22.
Davis in not in our best 18 and probably not the 22 either.
Who is going to play second ruck? Tex freaking Walker?
PS its a very tall, very slow team he's selected. Maybe Mike Sheehan is playing for draft picks.

i found mike's article interesting from an "outsiders" perspective
think it was back at the beginning of the 2002 season that mike had the pies finishing top4 when no other media "experts" thought we would even make the eight!!
his side is aint too bad
lockyer & morrison appear to be malthouse favourites, i would not be surprised if they both played some games early in the season.
tex at CHB is bit puzzling, think max & even j.cloke would still be ahead of tex in fighting for a spot in the back 6
O'Bree, whilst he has his knockers for poor disposal, he does have one thing going for him, the fact that he bloody finds the pill!!
he thinks josh is number 1 ruck, pretty much has him rucking on his own too as no relief coming from the bench!!
like the fact he has didak & b.johnson on the wings
the interesting thing is that he doesn't have J.Cloke or Rusling listed as bigs yet he has pendles listed as a big, i would have thought that the former both stand more chance of playing a KP than pendles
not a bad team tho from a different perspective

I like Walker at CHB. I think that is where is future is. He's big (massive), strong and quick and has good skills, his downfall appears to be people consider him a "dumb" footballer. Also, he hasn't had a chance to settle in a position or even an area. Thrown from back to forward to onball and back again.
Give him time and he will be the one to be able to manage the oposition power forwards which are too big for J cloke.
J cloke is hopefully in the process of re inventing himself. I don't see him having a future as a KPP, either forward or back. he's apparently been working hard on his fitness and I can see him being part of the midfield rotation and spending time as a medium forward with a brief to crash and tackle in the mould of Molloy.
I don't get how he bagged Johnson's kicking...can anyone think of an example of him ********ing it up last year?

Johnson's kicking action is unusual, but It's effective none of the less. :thumbsu:

Johno, don't think I can afford to get the jazzy stat book, however, I am sure i will just find a way.
Out of interest what was Richard Cole's efficiency? 50%?

Cole's was 71.1% - puts him in the 'poor' catagory, I think.
He peaked in 2003 with a rate of 77%, and was at his worst on debut in 2002 with a mere 66.7%.

Lol. It is well worth it. You can get it from Kmart for $19.95, compared to $29.95 elsewhere. Certainly worth it. I know you are a stats buff - it would suit you down to the ground!

I went to high school with Ben and his kicking is getting a lot better, if we dont get too many injuries we should make the 8, there is no excuse what so ever!!!!!!!
