This thread will give detail on how the spine will look this year, and at the end of 2010. Keep in mind that this is my version, so feel free to do your own version if you don't agree with mine. Here it goes:
Current Spine:
FB- Simon Prestigacomo: Age-28. Age in 2010-32.
It's fair to say Simon isn't the most exciting Full Back going around, but he doesn't give his opposition Full Forward easy kicks. Presti doesn't get the ball too often himself, but he is a vital part to this Collingwood team. An injury free Presti is needed if we want to go far in 06'.
CHB- SUFG (Spot up for grab)
Nominees:
Jason Cloke
Tristen Walker
Nick Maxwell?
Shane Wakelin will be 32 at the end of this year, his chances of playing CHB are as low as Hall's chances of breaking into the side. Jason Cloke seems to be the ideal replacement for this year at least, but it all depends on how Tristen Walker will progress at Williamstown.
C- SUFG (Spot up for grab)
Nominees:
Paul Licuria
Shane O'Bree
Alan Didak
Bucks will obviously still play in the centre in periods of every match this year, but he wouldn't be our main man in the midfield anymore - spending some time in the forward 50. Paul Licuria is 28, so he still have some juice left in the tank to be our main man in the centre.
CHF- Anthony Rocca: Age-29 Age in 2010-33.
Anthony Rocca at 29 is still the main factor on whether we play finals or not this year. The barometer of the Collingwood team, Rocca must start performing consistently if we want to go far in 06'. Rocca hasn't got much left, so It's fair to say this could be Rocca's last chance of making a big impact on the AFL.
FF- Chris Tarrant: Age-25/26 Age in 2010-29/30.
Tarrant is a quality footballer - no doubting that, but he must turn those part-time performances into full-time performances, and we all know he is capable of the latter. Tarrant says he wants to put in a big year personally but, can he get over his horrid knee injuries and perform on a weekly basis?
R- Josh Fraser: Age-24 Age in 2010-28.
It doesn't matter what people say, Fraser is still well and truly our #1 ruck option. Fraser is proven he is very capable of doing a reasonable job carrying the ruck duties over the last couple of years, something Richards, Fanning and Cam Cloke haven't done as of yet. He says he wants to play more in the ruck, so why don't we keep him there in the near future.
Replacement Spine. Future:
FB-
Tristen Walker: Age-26 (2010)
John Anthony: Age-22 (2010)
Both nominees would be in peek condition to take over FB after Presti hangs up his boots, but which one will rise to the occasion greater than the other. Walker has shown tiny glimpses of what we might see, but they're only very small glimpses. Anthony has still got a lot to learn about football, and I see MM persisting with him until he is ready. Both are mobile which helps.
CHB-
Tristen Walker: Age-26 (2010)
Brent Hall: Age-24 (2010)
With the spot still up for grabs now, It's very tough to see who might grab that CHB position permanently in 4 years time. Help needed.
C-
Alan Didak: Age-27 (2010)
Ben Davies: Age-24 (2010)
Adam Iacobucci: Age-24 (2010)
Daniel Nicholls: Age-23 (2010)
Danny Stanley (possible): Age-22 (2010)
All Collingwood supporters should be excited about our future midfield division. Alan Didak and Benny Davies are the obvious two who might share big roles in the centre. Stanley for his body size might be too much for other centremen to handle in 4 years time - he is a candidate. Nicholls is small, but extra time in the Gym and with his speed, Nicho could be hard to stop. In the mould of Licuria, Iacbucci looks promising, but he must find a spot in the team quickly.
CHF-
Travis Cloke: Age-23 (2010)
Cameron Cloke: Age-26 (2010)
Brent Hall: Age-24 (2010)
Travis Cloke is a certainty for CHF after Rocca but, can his brother (Cam) take the next step needed in his football? Interesting times ahead.
Brent Hall is a long, long, long way away from holding down any position in the Collingwood team.
FF-
Sean Rusling: Age-24 (2010)
Tristen Walker: Age-26 (2010)
Like Travis Cloke, Rusling is a certainty for FF. Everyone wants to see Tarrant play out on a forward flank, but with Rusling's latest setback: Does this mean it has opened a spot up for Tristen Walker? Rusling will obviously bounce back but, are we sure that he will cement a spot at FF? Walker is a possibility, but he must get his game up and running.
R-
Guy Richards: Age-27 (2010)
David Fanning: Age-26 (2010)
Cameron Cloke: Age-26 (2010)
Most supporters want to see Richards take the mantle as the #1 ruckman, but others would like to see Fanning and Cam Cloke. Someone mentioned we can't carry three ruckmen, but other teams like Port Adelaide and Brisbane Lions have done it successfully over the past couple of years.
