Introduction:
After an injury depleted 2005 season, the Collingwood Magpies are looking to the 2006 season with high hopes that they can secure a finals berth. While it is very easy to blame injuries, and that was the main reason for their two year decline since making consecutive grand finals in 2002/2003, the Magpies are making no excuses. For me the following players MUST stand up in 2006 to secure their spot in the team: Tristan Walker, Ryan Lonie, Jason Cloke, Leon Davis, Chad Morrison and Dane Swan. Others that are close to that stage include: Cameron Cloke, Julian Rowe and Alan Didak who all need to find consistency. On a brighter note, Nick Maxwell and Rhyce Shaw, before he was injured, were the most improved along with Shane O'Bree and Ben Johnson. With a new bunch of youngsters, it seems that 2006 will be a proud year for the men in black and white.
My top 10 Collingwood Player for 2006:
1. James Clement
2. Nathan Buckley
3. Anthony Rocca
4. Chris Tarrant
5. Paul Licuria
6. Josh Fraser
7. Simon Prestigiacomo
8. Nick Maxwell
9. Brodie Holland
10. Travis Cloke
Best First Year Player:
Dale Thomas
Highest Goal Kicker:
Chris Tarrant 75
Copeland Trophy:
James Clement/Anthony Rocca
My Best 22:
FB: Ben Johnson - Shane Wakelin - Nick Maxwell
HB: James Clement - Simon Prestigiacomo - Julian Rowe
C: Rhyce Shaw - Brodie Holland - Tarkyn Lockyer
HF: Chris Tarrant - Travis Cloke - Blake Caracella
FF: Nathan Buckley - Anthony Rocca - Alan Didak
R: Josh Fraser - Paul Licuria - Scott Burns
INT: Ben Davies - Heath Shaw - Guy Richards - Chris Egan
My Season Prediction:
Position: 7th
Wins: 13
Losses: 10
Conclusion:
2006 will be a year of improvement for the Collingwood Football Club with many players improving and much less injuries. If we can obtain it, expect finals action from our boys. In a couple of years, it is realistic to be holding the premierhsip cup aloft and lets hope we can do it before Bucks retires. For this team is no longer a one man team but a club and this club will strive to the best of it's ablities in 2006. :) :thumbsu:

Have to disagree with the top 10, no Didak in there, if he's not there i don't think we w ill make the finals.
For mine top 5 players for this year will be
1. Clement
2. Didak
3. Fraser
4. Tarrant
5. Buckley (probably higher)
Dids will play midfield a lot more and find his place there

nothing against jimmy clement, but if he wins the copeland again in 06 i will be shattered, we dont want the defenders to be our best players
top 5 in the copeland for 2006
1. A.Rocca
2. N.Buckley
3. J.Fraser
4. C.Tarrant
5. A.Didak
if this happens the pies should make the finals, IMO pushing for top4
Defenders can be your best players in a good year.
Look at Licuria in 2002, he was a tagger. If the top 5 is full of defensive players then you would be worried, like in 2005.

Our team is going to be crap if Nick Maxwell is in our top 10.
Not bagging Nick, but if guys like Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Rhyce Shaw and possibly even Ben Davies can't get above him in terms of our top rated players, than we're going to be in trouble. In fact, I find it pretty unlikely that Maxwell is better than Wakelin this year.
It hurts to say, because I think he's a good young player, but you're definitely overrating Maxy here.

Where is Walker, I thought he would be our no.1 CHB :p

Ahh false hope, I love it...
- Dane Swan to be the big improver this year
- Buckley to kick 50 goals
- Defeat Essendon on Anzac Day by 1 point
- Rocca to kick a goal from two steps after taking it out of the first ruck contest of the game in Round 1
- Leon Davis to kick 9 goals in one game
- Tristen Walker, our No.1 CHB to take Mark Of The Year over Jonathan Brown, in the process giving him a broken nose
- Rusling to kick 4 goals and pick up 20 touches upon his return, only to get reported for striking and suspended for 1 match, refusing to take an early plea so he gets 3
- Harry 'Wax' O'Brien to win NAB Rising Star
- Ben Davies early Brownlow favourite
- Passage of play of the year: H Shaw to R Shaw from the kickout, 2 bounces, short pass to J Cloke, handball to C Cloke, chip to T Cloke, from 65m BANGGGGGG
- - - We can all dream, can't we? - - -

If James Clement wins the Copeland again, we're in trouble.
Clement's a very good footballer, but defenders shouldn't win Copeland's.
My Best 22:
FB: Ben Johnson - Shane Wakelin - Nick Maxwell
HB: James Clement - Simon Prestigiacomo - Julian Rowe
C: Rhyce Shaw - Brodie Holland - Tarkyn Lockyer
HF: Chris Tarrant - Travis Cloke - Blake Caracella
FF: Nathan Buckley - Anthony Rocca - Alan Didak
R: Josh Fraser - Paul Licuria - Scott Burns
INT: Ben Davies - Heath Shaw - Guy Richards - Chris Egan
Not a bad lineup. I would not have Rowe in the best 22 and I'd have Jason Cloke in. I'd have R Shaw on the HBF and J Cloke on the bench.
Also D Swan and O'Bree in, and B Davies and H Shaw out.
FB Swan Prestigiacomo Maxwell
HB R Shaw Wakelin Clement
C Didak Holland Johnson
HF Tarrant T Cloke Buckley
F Fraser Rocca Caracella
R Richards Licuria O"bree
INT Burns J Cloke Lockyer Egan

Ben Davies is a much better bet than Shane O'Bree. O'Bree is slower than Chad Morrison and Davies is twice his size and can run like the wind. Ben Davies is a ball magnet and is going to be a terrific player for the maggies

Clement may wonder up to the flank, but he is still in a Back Pocket position when there, as his opponent is a FP. I assure you this, but, that is where I see him each and every game.

Can't agree more, but O'Bree doesn't need speed to have a good game.

Depends on matchups. Clement has been forced into the last line of defence in the past year or so because we have had nobody else. Now with Jason Cloke back in form and the continued development of Maxwell, we can afford to play Clement on the back flank where he is of more value to the team.

Must have missed that.
Must have missed that.
He played very well in the second half of season 2005, despite playing "out of position" in first ruck. Selectors were culpable for not promoting him earlier, but they had their heads up their proverbials.

If the Taz monster kicks more than 75 goals this season I will do something really stupid, you guys name it. Like run onto the ground and start to hump his leg!!! In other words, keep dreaming.
Fraser for a big year along with Lonie.
Lonie top five in B&F!

Okay, GW, If Taz does kick 75 or more, then you have to run on the ground and hump his leg :p
Lonie top 5 in B&F - Great Call...he could do it, and if he does, Collingwood WILL make the top 4! As ou always say, he is a frontrunner, let's hope he has a good season.

It'd be great to see Lonire in the top 5 in the BnF because he has so much skill and i reckon if he has a good season his confidence will rise and he will be a more consistent player.
I'm tipping Didak for a massive year to assert himself as one of our main midfielders and Tarrant to return to his best.
