Barring injuries, there's only one or at most two spots available for these players.

Is Ray the obvious choice? And Boyd the next? (going on last year)

From what I have been reading and putting them in order I would have to go with Ray Power Birss Boyd Faulkner and then McCormack

Yeah not alot of spots for these guys and a few others,
when i look at the squad, i could fit most of them into the first 22. Of course some of the new guys, wells, tiller, are the exceptions.

birss is backup for west and cross

boyd is a good bench player (utility), jack of all trades, despite being a "plain" player in a team full off skill, he seems to keep his spot regularly.

ray will backup gia, johnno, murph and robbo as a small forward/midfiielder.

power needs some mind control therapy ala clockwork orange in my view, but he seems to be groomed for gilbee's backup this year. Has been doing a lot of kick in work in practice sessions. Also may get more tagging roles this year.

faulkner looks set to switch to defence after struggling as a midfielder.
As has been posted he's been going toe to toe with robbo in matchups, so back pocket running player could be his role. Will backup mcmahon, gilbs and morris and co.

Dmac could be a half back or half forward flanker. Might compete with boyd for a utility type role. Should get his first game this year for sure, and should feature in the pre-season cup i would think. Especially because he has shown that he can stand up despite things going pear shaped. (ie vfl final)

I hope faulkner ray and dmac step up this year. We will need them primed for when the fab 5 are gone in a few years.

so faulkner is macmahons understudy - quick, got skills, but maybe a bit stronger and harder? but doesnt know where to run...

good thinking

I know faulkner, according to the training reports, has been playing back in the intra club matches... mostly on Robbo. But does this mean he's necessarily going to play back in the long term? Perhaps he's just learning the ropes from Robbo who is pretty good at finding space.

I think it is a good idea to put Faulkner on some quality opposition, giving him a chance to see how the A graders lead and find space. Even if he plays most games this year it will still be predominently a learning expreinece for him.

If we could combine Ray & Boyd we'd have a pure champion; Ray's skill, carry & finesse, with Boyd's "just get get the job done" style of play, never dropping his head.

Throw in Sal Hassan and Jimmy Allen and Werribee are going to have a kick arse midfield.

Ray is carrying or acquired an injury. He had his thigh strapped and spent some time when on the bench rubbing ointment into a spot high on the inner thigh. It can't be too serious but it is obviously hampering his run at the moment.
