Is he any chance of being Australia's next keeper?

Very unlikely.
why not former aussie 19 keeper and the right age ! seems a chance to me

Unlikely, selectors give Tassie a raw deal...the only player they have had for awhile is Ponting, who is now a New South Welshman.
This is a bit of a knee-jerk thread - Crosthwaite had a bad game despite all the credit he's bulit up as a keeper over the past couple of seasons, Paine has a good one and you talk him up.
There's so many keepers with potential in this country at the moment - Crosthwaite (21), Paine (21), Hartley (23), Ronchi (24). Really depends on which one is the best batsman - so at the moment looks like Ronchi (plus he has the advantage of being the oldest and more experienced out of the lot)

in a roundabout way, this is the 100th thread (well not quite) on who may well be the next aussie keeper. everyone has an opinion and fair enough but i haven't heard one opinion where we may have 2 or 3 guys fighting over it and getting rotated through poor form and being dropped and regaining it again as the other has a bad patch or etc.
we've been blessed in era's where marsh , healy and gilly have had a mortgage on that position and there have been guys simply born at the wrong time. 84-88 no one held the position down for any substantial period of time. woolley, rixon, phillips, dyer and zoehrer were all tried and tested.

He looked the goods today but does he even play FC cricket?

Not sure, think they usually play Clingeleffer.
Anyway, as far as Paine vs Crosthwaite goes, you'd have to go with Paine due to superior batting. Crossy is basically a tailender, Paine averages 40 at domestic level.

What did Paine make today? and was he good enough behind the stumps?

He made 47 and yes he was certainly good enough behind the stumps, took a great catch standing up to the stumps when Butterworth was bowling.
Good prospect, needs another full season of first class cricket.
Gilly is taking up a lot of Haddin's potential Australian career and Paine is coming through at a good time.
That shot through the off-side over covers today was shot of the summer for mine.

He looked the goods today but does he even play FC cricket? He played 1 game in December as a batsman with Clingeleffer keeping. He's also got Dawson in the Pura side who might keep ahead of him
Looks good enough but the path is a lot tougher, but if he gets a bit of luck (i.e. Clingeleffer gets injured or dropped) he could be in the right form at the right time.
Tasmania problem now. Sean Clingeleffer (25) has cemented his place basically as the keeper in the first class game. Good behind the stumps and has made 4 50's this year and averages about 27 in his career, but 30 odd this season. While on the other side we have young exciting/attacking Tim Paine (21) coming through. Has had a pretty good debute season in the one dayers and had a couple of first class games.
Question is you can't play both of them really. Gotta pick 1 or the other as the number 1 keeper.

You'll see this is not quite true, if you go back to the most recent of the 30 million 'who'll be the next Aussie keeper?' threads on BF.
Paine was talked up then as well. And, FWIW, he seems just as good as Crosthwaite, if not better.

Should keep for Tassie all the time. About the only real talent to surface. heartly is ok but his batting is crap. The only real thing Hartley has got going for him is that he plays for Queensland.:thumbsd:

I'm gonna have to say Manou on this one. Plus he has THE hottest girlfriend - well used to.

I guess it's hard to tell at this point, they're both 21 years of age and we'll know a bit more about them over the coming seasons....so many keepers who look the goods at the moment

Paine is still only 21, and has just converted his maiden FC century into a double.
Good to see a young guy amongst the runs.

Gunnar bumped a thread that wasn't his
Paine is currently 210*
If he can keep you would imagine he'd be in the forefront of selectors minds as a Gilchrist replacement in 1-2 years.

Could i please have another 50 sir, to go with my 200? jump on the bandwagon now, whilst also predicting how long Clingleffer's career has left...

I'm a big fan of Clingleffer. It wasn't that long ago he was touted as apossible Australian keeper, but he got dropped from the one day side due to not being able to put together the necessary strike rate (and an obsession with choosing batsmen who can keep, rather than keepers in the short game) and his first class batting has fallen away since.
He'll bounce back, and I think he will be the #1 Tas keeper in the real game for some time. Paine looks good so far, but may very well end up as a top order batsman rather than a keeper-batsman.

Tim Paines the Town Red would be a good headline, unfortunately they're not playing SA ;)
Good signs from the young man...he's the youngest of the new generation of keepers, so hopefully he continues to improve with the bat.

Sometimes, when young blokes show a bit of ability, they get fast-tracked. They get pushed through hard with the view that they're going to play for Australia at some point, so they might as well start learning early.
Michael Clarke is an example of this. He was given opportunities at international level, despite a FC record that was nothing special.
How long before Tim Paine is afforded the same kind of treatment?
He's 21 and captained Australia at the last U19 World Cup, so he's obviously on the path to higher honours.
He's already shown a bit for Tasmania. His FC average is 45, and his ODD average is 38.
How long before this guy is identified as a player who should be fast-tracked?

paine is God. lets all hear you say it. Has passed clingleffer's total runs ammount in his one day career, just 10 games into his career. all praise the man.
on his way to his 400th run this week, and second 1day century in his first 10 games. jamie cox never hit 100 in 80 odd games lol!

Fast-tracking Tasmanians is a great plan. Only happened once in recent years, and Ricky turned out alright.
As soon as he moves to NSW.
:D :D
Great ODI knock in WA last night.
If Gilly lasts another 2 years in the Aussie team this guy will be his replacement. He is adequate with the gloves and a gun bat.

Paine is Robert Shaw's nephew and a Dockers man according to the Sunday Times.
Get him in the side now!:D
seems like a good chance he has done a bit in both versons of the game and is young so hope their is even more development in him

He has huge upside and if he gets first class cricket will be better for it.
After Haddin, would think he would be next in line for the australian keeper duties.
