If Hayden and Langer retire after the ashes which is conceivable if we win who will be the australian openers. Jacques is a definate but who will be the other one. I can see Cooper openeing by 2010 but definatly not in the near future. Will Hussey move up the order? Will they play an older with lots of first class runs such as Elliott or Maher. Or will it be someone like Rodgers, North, Birt or Klinger?

I don't expect Hayden to retire that soon.

Cameron White should be no where near a test team. Unless he is taking out the drinks.

I agree on both counts.
If we were forced to replace both openers, then Hussey would probably have to open, given we have more middle order options.
Cosgrove is not an opener, unless it is an ODI.

Hussey and Jaques deffinatelly as no other opening batsmen around the country stand out, if someone can have a big couple of seasons in the next few seasons they could possibly get the spot.

None of the above. I doubt Jacques will come over from South Africa and play for Australia.

Katich
Actually a good point. I would prefer to keep Hussey down the order & Jaques / Katich as openers would be a better option to do this.

Hayden should have a while yet. He has been in fantastic form.
You'd expect Jaques and Cosgrove/M Hussey (1 will open, the other middle order)

Hayden is authoritative. Langer is gritty. Those are the traits of our opening bats, and they come across on sight.
Katich is weak-chinned, pasty and nervous.
He looks like the kid who had a stutter in grade 5, who never quite got over being teased about it.

Cosgrove is not suited to opening in the long form of the game. He is a middle order player.

IMO, Katich is more suited as a Test than an ODI opener.

Don't care,
these blokes are making runs,
so bugger retiring/dropping them,
they aint gonna quit,
someone has to turn up and take their place,
and earn the damn spots

Why the hell are Maher, Elliott and Klinger there! :thumbsd:
I'd have to say Jaques and Hussey.
Surely eddie would be the only one stupid enough to give Klinger a vote.

I think they will both be forced retirements, i thought pidge would be the same but the health of his wife might see him never play for Aus again.

I think they will both be forced retirements.Unlikely.
If Hayden maintains the form he displayed this summer, he'll be able to play for 2-3 more years.
Has to be Jacques and Hussey.
