Is AARON Lord going to continue the cycle of players returning to their first club??? Ezra Bray has been delisted- but im not sure if he is going to be re-listed on the rookie-list via the rookie draft.

gee thats confusing:cool:

Yeah, that seems the case according to The Age today. I'm quite happy with the fact that he's returning, although his best footy may be behind him, I think he'd be a useful goalkicker.

I threw up the idea of picking up Aaron Lord at season's end a few months ago when I heard from my Hawthorn informants that he was not a Happy Hawk. Since then he has been delisted and the idea has obviously gained momentum.

Don't pick him up, it would be a step in the wrong direction. We need to concentrate on developing our youth at the club. Aaron is a one-dimensional goal-hungry forward who loves himself. If you saw the Hawthorn games, when things didn't go his way, he lost interest and his body language suggested he'd rather give up on a bad game than work harder to try to get into it.

Sure he had a few good games where he kicked bags, but overall he's not the sort of player that's going to boost morale at the club.

We got rid of Murphy, Houlihan and Bizzell, don't pick up Aaron Lord.

You've had plenty of experience at that one, so perhaps the club should bow to your better judgement.

Aaron Lord is trouble. He was when he was at Geelong and things didn't change when he was at Hawthorn.
With such a young list, to pick up someone like him would be a terrible move. There's no doubt he'd be a bad influence on the younger players.

Cat of two lives
By Michael Stevens

Wednesday, December 12, 2001

AARON Lord's AFL career looks certain to turn full circle when he is picked up by Geelong in Tuesday's pre-season draft.

The delisted Hawthorn goalsneak said last night he would nominate for the draft, and had been training with the Cats.

Fremantle is already committed to taking former Port Adelaide utility Fabian Francis.

And with St Kilda not participating and West Coast and the Kangaroos unable to have selections unless they delist players, Geelong will have first pick on Tuesday.

That means the draft has fallen perfectly for Lord, who started his career at Kardinia Park in 1994 and was traded to the Hawks at the end of 1996.

''It's been a bit weird walking in after five years, but they've been pretty good and I'd like to think I've got a lot footy left and can play a lot of good footy here,'' Lord said last night.

''I didn't nominate for the national draft because it's traditionally a kids' draft and I wanted to get a good four to six weeks' training under my belt before I went down to a club.

''But footy's my life and I still think I've got a fair bit to offer. I've only just turned 26 so I've still got a few good years left.''

Lord played 21 games with the Hawks this season for a total of 125 and kicked 35 goals for a career tally of 155.

He was overlooked for the finals, but said he was still surprised to be delisted.

''I thought I'd be in the mix to be traded because indicators were such during the year that that may be the case,'' he said.

''There were definitive deals in place with a couple of clubs, but Hawthorn didn't deal for whatever reason.

''So I thought I'd be pretty safe, but they turned around and cut me.'

Perhaps the club isn't going to bow to our better judgement.

Welcome back to AARON LORD, do the Hawks get back Tim Hargraves as part of the return to origional club theme of the 2001 post season???. Are we going to re Draft David Ugrinic and Darren Forsmann next year ???????????????

Give Lordy the mighty 24 number he wore in 1994 when he single handedly destroyed Carlton, he the replacement for Bairstow Hocking and Couch rolled in to 1 person.

Beware the purring pussy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good on ya Carl, you're clutching at straws if you think a rookie-list player is going to have a big impact on the team's final position.

What are you doing on the Geelong board anyway? You've jumped off so why associate yourself with the club. Go to the Carlton board and rave about Ezra Bray.

I would rather have Ezra Bray injured and off the field than Adam Chatfield fit and on the field! :D

I would like to thank the Cats for taking the heat of Carlton for taking Gallagher from the Crows. You have officially got the worst recruit of the year if not decade. If this was the USA, I would think somebody is sabotaging your club from within so that they can relocate you to another city.

And Red Rover ..... love the signature mate. Wear it well. ;)

One major difference with Gallagher & Chatfield is that Gallagher is on your senior list & Chatfield is on our rookie list.

Maybe Gallagher could combine with Christou as 'Dumb & Dumber' ?

Exactly, who gives a toss about the rookie list anyway? Such a small proportion of them end up getting a game it's hardly worth mentioning.

Well a few injuries last year and the Blues played Plunkett, Pickering and Prendergast off the rookie list. Plunkett and Prendergast are fantastic players.

When you don't participate in the draft until round 3 or 4, the rookie list can be very important. If we need some more long term injuries to access our rookie list, we can always have Gallagher kneecapped! :D

The point is now more than ever the rookie list is very important. The Bombers found Peverill through this route too. I think you may be kidding yourself in downplaying its value.

There is always the possibility of someone coming off the rookie list and doing something at senior level, the last few years have shown it can happen. But on a list of five rookies, if you have a dud or two, it's not going to matter. If you can get one or even two of them to play senior footy, you've put it to good use, and as for the other three that don't make it, who really cares?

Geelong obviously think Chatfield is worth a punt, and the opportunity cost of one spot on the rookie list isn't all that high, so really, there's not a lot to lose.

Well, you wouldn't be kidding yourself if you downplayed Carlton's value. The sooner you guys piss off to the soccer the better.

Hey, there's a monkey throwing **** at me from the treetops! Oh, it's just Olmy. Sorry mate, did I offend you defending the rookie list like that or are you having a bad day? I always thought of you as a passionate team man and intelligent poster. Please don't ruin that image for me. ;)

Yeah . . . but you've gotta have a bit of fun every now and then! :p

And this board needs a bit, every now and then, I might add. :o
