Stop putting words in my mouth Hansie..... I never said Parton was no good! I just don't think he'd be anything special in A grade. He along with Chivers would definetly be in the top 5 players in D Grade... no doubt.

Oh.....And i look forward to playing your bench press god in a couple of weeks..... tell him to up his weights.... if he is going to be any match the the great lady he's gonna need to be at his best.... because i am going to put the gun show on for him!!!

Nothing special in A grade, hmm? We ARE talking about a bloke that won Xavs a flag with a lazy 5 one year - reckon he may have ALREADY proven his ability at the higher level...I'll leave it at that I reckon.

Picked YV last week, but i'm not getting ahead of myself.
BT a hard fought 3 goals
OC by 35 points but wouldn't be surprised with an upset
Rupo with more scoring shots 8-25 points
Leo's to welcome Banyuyle to D2 with a 5 goal win
OG will be disappointed after last week and will win well of Prahran

Great info HB. That is the kind of stuff we love to see on BF. Massive names. Crotty had been on fire prior to injury. And the Bannisters will be welcome inclusions. The OC will have to be very wary if they tackle a full strength Therry line up under relegation pressure away from home!
Any chance of having 4 Bannisters and 3 Goodwins playing in the one side this week?? What is the family link here Half back?

"The day rupo died"
Big call Bullant. Rupo is far from dead. Although the run home is going to be a mighty challenge we are all keen as mustard to give it a crack. Why wouldn't we be?
First time around we beat OC and then threw away the game against your mob. Admittedly OG gave us one almighty footy lesson, but as has been said countless times on this brilliant thread, every game in D Grade 2006 is a DANGER game. So that being said, these three games aren't only a danger to our finals ambitions but OC, OG and BT's as well. Nothing is certain this season. That may be your opinion which is fair enough, but we can't wait to give the last part of the season a red hot dip. I'm sure the feeling is mutual at all 5 of the clubs still in the finals hunt. ;)
To other things, Parton is a gun, would be welcome at any side. Would like to see him play fully fit, I think he was carrying an injury last time.
They are some big inclusions for Therry this week. Hopefully that can take them to a much needed win, but I still think OC will be too strong, especially if Tiras gets cleared from Box Hill - very handy up forward. Cheers

Great posting gents, will definently be an interesting run home for all sides in the D1 division.

Bullant10 and C.U. although i will read and respect your opinion, i find it laughable that you write rupo off. But having said that i am guilty of writing YV off earlier in the season so back to that story about the pot and the kettle.

OM man's tips:

YV vs BT: Will be very hard to tip against YV playing in the Park Orchards slosh. But amazingly BT have not lost away this season!!! Are my eyes and ears playing tricks on me? IMO the hardest game to pick this seasonso far...YV by 5 points.

Therry vs OC: Some big inclusions this week for Therry, but a big percentage boost for OC on the card's. OC by 43 points.

OM's vs Rupo: Too much at stake for Rupo. Although we will see a hard fought battle for 3 quarters their skill and speed will prosper and give them a 5 goal victory.

Banyule vs Emmaus: Big game to see who deserves to be playing in D1 next season, Emmaus by 27 points.

Pharan vs OG: A dissapointing loss last week for OG, and we can expect to see a fairly 1 sided encounter. However, with the condition of Toorak Park i can't see it showing on the scoreboard OG by 22 points.

Lots of talk, lots of chatter, seems like D-Grade is the one that matters.
DG Thinks:
1. Dee Snider is not who Moss Rocket thought he was.
2. He just made a guess because the names were similar.
3. Ugly knows exactly who he is, as The Snidemiester thanked him for registration assistance.
4. The Miester of Snide is a newy to the club, hence his comment, "looking forward to playing the last 6 games"
5. A Bain Perhaps?
6. Or are the BT mustering more recruits than you could poke a C-Grade promotion stick at!
7. Exciting times perhaps in the Bulleen badlands!

DG - A little worried by the BT train!

Great side Ugly. From an OC vantage point the 4 you have in are certs. Others from OC who i personally like are Zander on a back flank, Battle in a back pocket and Tiras on a HFF. But 4 guys in your side is a solid result. The rest of the names are people i have heard of, so i think you are on the mark, or very, very close to it.
And on your next post, yes it does mean something. The two teams looking likely to go to C-Grade next year have 12 -15 very good players, not just 5-6. BT have a great "best 18" then they thin a little. OC have a great "best 15" and have a little more depth (hence reseves doing well) So no suprises that they have a greater spread of "bests"

YV is and always will be a school-boy side..

Indeed. I did a bit of investigating and I found that YVOBFC features a vast majority of players who played school footy for Yarra Valley Grammar. Coincidence? I think not. In fact I've dug a little deeper and imagine my surprise when I found that over half of the clubs in the ammos (including 19 of 20 in A and B grade) are and always will be school-boy sides.

Pretty good team, Ugly, can't fault many of those picks. Although it would have been nice to see a D1 team of the half year, I reckon the Qwill probably thought it was a lose/lose situation. Maybe he felt it would be better to be bagged for being lazy, as opposed to being bagged for being clueless. We had one player in the end of year D1 team last year, a player who only played about seven games, so I think people read a bit too much into these things.

I may be way off the mark, but the players that have been named in Old Carey's best in the two games against us have been very different to my personal opinion of who have been the best players. Their BOG according to the results page in one game, played about half a game on the ground (if that).

Sad but true. I'm sure most will agree or have had similar encounters. The school boys sides bully the Amateur Football Clubs around in under 19's. I can name on more than one occasion where boys from the juniors have finished off in Colts under 17's the year before, decide to play under 19's at their club along with 1st XVIII's at their school during their last year at school. The school has blackmailed the kid saying that if he did not delist himself from his local club at side with the Old Boys 19's his spot in the 1stXVIII year 11/12 side will be giving to someone else. THe boys give in and the club doesn't see them again.
Is this an all to familiar???

I would be as happy as anyone should Rupo make it. However, my decision was based on 3 key factors vital from this point onwards - the draw, respective form of both sides and player availability. For example:

1. After this week, YV play the bottom 6 sides in the run home , Rupo play a few inside the four;
2. Rupo have hardly won a game in the last month - YV have not lost, and
3. YV appear to be getting players back from injury etc at the right time, Rupo don't seem to experiencing that (I may be wrong) from what I see on this post.

Its not that I was 'writing them off'...just dont think they will get there this year. OK?

Nice side Ugly. You would assume most of those players will make the end of season "best" team. Perhaps the Quill can take note of this team and hopefully watch a few more games till seasons end. Surely he will be out at Domoney this week for the GOTR!
Yes, very interesting call by first up contributor Dee Snider on the "School Boy Tag" I assume he was trying to be critical, but could there be a bigger compliment in Amatuer footy. School boy teams dominate the amatuers. Old Xavs, who have won 7 of the last 10 A-Grade flags, would have a team made up of 80% ex school boys of Xavier College. This year Hailebury and Scotch sit 1 and 2, with Ivanhoe OB 3rd, Xavs 4th and Old Trinity Grammar 5th.

DG-Man,

There is a strong chance of the four Bannister's (would be nice if the 5th Bannister could play, not sure if Carlton would release him) playing and a slim chance of the Three Goodwin's. There were two Skiathitis brother's playing Saturday so the majority of the team are brothers. We missed out on the other Foster Knight brother at the start of the season (Essendon and Port Adelaide) He looks like playing next year.

It takes more than names to win a game of football.. this is an observation not just a dig at HB man. It is cool to see families playing in the same team. My point is that most sides could name 5-10 'big' names who might be back, or will be back. YV and BT are the worst offenders here narrowly ahead of OC, but the fact is that it comes down to the player/team on the field on a saturday.

Far be it for me to weigh into someone else's discussion..but I didn't take it as CU 'writing them off'. With 6 games to go that would be foolish....but on the balance of probabilities, Rupo would be struggling to make it. Given the reasons outlined by CU (1, 2 & 3) I think thats a fair assesement he makes. 'Writing someone off' is an absolute statement - suggesting that they probably won't make it leaves the door ajar.

Regardles of who makes it (Rupo or YV), both would be pretty happy for different reasons. YV because they struggled for the earlier part of the year and Rupo because they will have firstly, made finals in their first year in D1 and secondly, because they will have dug themselves out of a worrying little hole to make it.

And thats the last time I will defend CU on this post - I know who he is. Good bloke but generally full of s h i t. Aint that right Conduct?;)

Tips for this week from under the Cowboy hat:

Old Carey too strong for Therry, regardless of the big inclusions. Will be close though, I think under the 4 goal mark.
Old Mentonians to challenge early but much like last time they met get overrun by Rupo. Rupo 36 points.
Yarra Valley will push BT all the way, but the flag favourites will honour their favouritism with a 10 point win at YV. BT 10 points.
Prahran play host to an on the rebound Old Geelong who will be far too good, regardless of the ground condition. OG by 54 points.
And finally the Bears and the Animals will renew hostilities at RJ Rockwell with Banyule for me to be a little better on the day. Banyule by 20 points.
Anyone willing to nominate a couple of players from their respective sides who may be in line to take out the league bnf?

Yarra Valley vs Bulleen-Templestowe: Yarra know they can’t afford to drop any more of their home games and will be hoping to claim another scalp of a team above them on the ladder. The challenges will be thrown out to the Bushrangers with Burridge, Chivers, Wise and Bone in pretty hot form. Yarra Valley, in a classic.

Therry Penola vs Old Carey: Therry have fallen into a hole since round eight, having lost four on the trot. Six wins looks like what it will take to guarantee a spot in D1 in 2007, meaning Therry need to win two more games. They won’t get one here though, as Old Carey are quietly chugging along, happy to let Bulleen-Templestowe take most of the plaudits as they prime for the rematch in Round 17. Therry have plenty of stars returning, but Old Carey have the guns to match them. Old Carey to extend Therry’s losing streak to five.

Old Mentonians vs Rupertswood: They’re a funny bunch, those Panthers. They have only one away win this season, against premiership fancies Bulleen- Temp by six goals. They have smashed Emmaus St. Leo’s and Banyule earlier in the year. However, they were slaughtered by Old Carey last week. And Rupertswood smashed them last time. It’s a long drive for the Rupo boys though, and I still think OM can beat anyone if they are on their game. I expect Michael Basile to kick another bag and a possible matchup with Collins would be terrific. Costello and Twentyman will also present matchup problems for Rupo. I’m leaning towards Old Mentonians and I expect to be looking like a genius or I may have to relinquish my 'thinking man's forum poster' status if the OMs don't get up for me.

Banyule vs Emmaus St. Leo’s: Banyule, like Therry Penola find themselves in a costly form slump, having lost six straight, by an average of 50 points. St. Leo’s have traveled in the opposite direction, losing six on the trot at the start of the season, before steadying with a respectable 3-2-1 run over the past month and a half. The stakes for these sides are as high as the teams fighting for top four spots, maybe higher, as the loser of this game has the inside track for relegation. These appear to be two teams going in separate directions, so why I’m tipping Banyule is anyone’s guess. I guess I've seen first hand that their best is very, very good.

Prahran vs Old Geelong: Prahran realistically need to win five of six games to avoid the drop to D2. I’m assuming Rady’s season is over, which is a massive blow to Prahran’s chances. Old Geelong simply can’t afford to drop three games out of four and their class will show through. Casboult is in league B&F type form and Colby O’Brien will be looking for another bag. Old Geelong, comfortably, with Vickers-Willis in the team or not.

There has been a leak at Price Waterhouse Coopers. The vault containing the D1 secton votes has been broken into. It seems that both Chivers and Collins have 5 x BOG's already. There has been a flood of money for both parties.

15/1 The Field

Those who took the 10's are looking a little unlucky!

Chivers will have Collins covered with the umpires , he is the tallest 6ft player in the comp and take marks that he has no right to take (frequently), other players in Wise and Burridge from BT impress with their run and carry, Parton will get votes based on the impact he has on games as will Bayles, Drew, Ballard, Baranello, Bannister for mine.

Tips this week:
BT to beat YV similar sides in strength and forward structure BT better around the ball.
OC very strong and according to recent posts getting stronger!
ESL - Banyule lost the plot (based on recent post in free ,kicks given etc)
OM - as I need to pick 1 differently from MSJ and with BT winning still keeps the chase for 4th alive!
OG - unlucky last week to make ammends and then some

Blokes who will poll well for rupo at seasons end:

Tom West, Simon Sweeny, Fatman Monzell, David Collins.

Pick of the four would be West..... he falls in under the 10-1 mark with DG Man.... put a pineapple on that for me!

1. Bag Reds

4. Talk about ordinary blokes in Ammos (Biggs Brothers, Ryan Bros etc)
5. Jump on forums and bore people.

Wow, its like you've known me all my life!

O'Brien does struggle off and on the ground from what I've heard... I have been too busy touring on Saturdays to watch, but I have seen him on the town........average....very average

The Ryan boys wouldn't appreciate being called average blokes, nor would you say it to their face

Got the quinella at Geeong today Race 3- 11,12, very poignant combination.

Tips for Saturday
BT by 1/2pt over YV as long as the old bloke doesn't umpire.
OC by 21pts over TP (Where are you Therry Mensupporting Half Back)
Rupo by 19pts (getting closer to full strength).
St. Leos by 22 pts. Banyule seems to have lost the passion.
OG by 41pts over the Blues

Big trip for the boys this year Half Back, I think they're going all the way to Seymour!

Not sure about the $500 though Half Back, the way Therry have been playing the last few weeks. Unless you mean $500 on the winner of the Punch on and/or Drinking after the game, then your a shoe-in!!

A few big ins for Therry this week, with the 4 Bannisters and 3 Goodwins all looking right to go.

Tips for this week;

King Woodie, he wasn't that bad, just a bit of fun. However, if you listen carefully to Toohas (the D1's thinking man) he started the year where he was right in amongst all those melees they were involved in but with time has mellowed towards those big YV boys. There discipline and efforts at being first to the footy would impress any umpire!!! Watch out BT. Still reckon that 1/2pt will make the difference.

Rupo's ground has really taken a belting last week and was still under water yesterday, i believe OM ground whilst on the small side is a ripping surface. Should suit us as well. Looking forward to another great round.

Could be a ripper of a game! Saw YV v BT last time. YV dominated for 1/4 and then went missing when BT took a more physical approach. YV second in for the ball for the next 3 quarters - outscored 15/16 goals to 3 or something.

Don't think BT 'watches out' for too many sides to be honest.

Still waiting on a few. Midas, Mystery Dog and Ugly. Ugly will come in late, after post work friday brew!

OC, OGS and Leos are heavily fancied. BT so far 14/7 over YV in the tips. Whilst the OM's v Rupo clash seems the hardest to split 12/9 Rupo at present.

Sorry boys, busy week haven't been on. Hope all's well with your respective teams. Stayed in last week given the weather, but this week might head down to Toorak Pk to watch the Two Blues / OG's after a few lagers last eve.

Would have to go OG's by a bit, but not as easily as some have suggested. The whispers are Beven may even be playing today, which muight give them some impetus!

OM's at home, the boys have a sniff of finals and will beat Rupo whose defence will find it difficult to deal with the guns of Mentone Twentyman, Basile, Cochrane.

OC will punish Therry, despite their inclusions. Think Carey may be a different outfit to the one BT seemed to have the wood over, and they might just be emerging.

YV's ability to get ahead of itself on a regular basis raises the question - will last week's win over OG's lend itself to a letdown against BT. Given its massive first quarter which has been rated as the best of the year by many in the earlier clash at Ajani, YV will be confident. That's always dangerous for them, so I'll go BT.

Relegation battle between Leos & Banyule. Banyule's younger guns seem to be losing their way a little, while the hardened heads of the Animals are maturely putting paid to any relegation talk - Leos by a six pack of majors

Have a good one boys.

Ugly, OM by 60 points, stick to your weather forecasting (mighty job there). The mighty hard nut Rupi boys had a solid win today over at Keysborough, so we are a very happy team at Rupi. Nothing flash by us but good to get the four points, many on this thread consider it hard to win over at the Grammar. I thought we controlled the game most of the day so in that respect it was a good day. Still need to improve though.
The ground conditions were excellent and i feel this actually suited us.

Well Well what about Prahran, great for the competition well done. BT and OC continue to firm as strong favorites with OG suprisingly slipped to 8-5.
The relegation spots are hotting up with the animals probably the best form side outside the top 5. Therry continue to slide while Banyules younger legs is catching up with them.

Another great week as we all agree suprises are going to happen every week.

Thorpedo69
22 Jul 2006, 20:54
Saw the OGs v Prahran game today. Prahran clearly harder at the footy and the better side on the day, although OGs nearly managed to get there in the last quarter.

Casboult played good footy across half back for OGs. O'Brien, Wilson and Bell were good up forward for OGs. Prahran seemed to have contributors all over the ground, but James at CHB and Stafford up forward were standouts from where I was observing.

What a great spectacle D1 can provide!

22 Jul 2006, 21:35
dead right Thorpedo.

KB- Rupo have been bloody great this year and definately still in the ball game for both promotion and the flag. I really thought they would struggle at Keysborough - only because I personally know how hard OM are to beat there - and it is a fair trek for you guys. Great result for you and the boys. Do you pull on the boots?? I enjoyed watching the BT v Rupo game in the first half of the season, and really liked the way your team played - I compare your style to the western Bulldogs.

Great win by both the animals and two blues. Seems the relegation battle will be as toughly fought out as the battle at the other end of the ladder. makes for great footy. Could Therry be playing in D2 next year?

I also want to make the point that this thread is by far the biggest of the ammo threads and maybe we all need to set a sunday afternoon aside in October to catch up and have a few frosties. Obviously we all love our footy (and some of us can let it go....) clubs and most of the contributions are in great spirit (even ILSS..... but don't tell him that).

Can I suggest we all meet at DG- Man house for an old fashioned juice up? From all accounts he owns half of the hill over looking Como park and from an earlier thread he suggests his lovely wife is handy with the cut lunch and thermos. Would be interesting to look inside his wardrobe and see all the different roll neck jumper options.....

Lets vote on it?

Ugly votes YES to DG-Man opening up the ranch for the D- Grade big footy crew.
