No need to get angry Bundles, i think more OC superstars have been mentioned than Rupo, everyone acknowledges they are a formidable line up. You are either from OC or just crying over a crap season by your side.
If i could have a dollar for everytime we have been told we will be smashed or we are gone on this thread i'd be very rich.
No anger here, I just don't want to see a good tread go to boring crap. By the way, if you got told 10 times a week that you would get smashed, through all 18 rounds plus the 2 finals so far, 20 games, that would be 200 times. 200 x $1 = $200. I'm no matematician but am concerned for your future if you count this as rich.

So its Silverchair vs Led Zeppelin,
Rupo vs Old Carey
With the likes of Israels Son, Tomorrow and pure massacre running off the half backline against the experience of Immigrant Song, Black Dog and Stairway.
Led Zeppelin will miss the injured Kashmir up forward as will Silverchairs absense of the underrated Anthem of the year.
What a midfield battle Robert Plant vs Daniel Johns, John Bonham clearlyhas the edge in rythym over ben gillies.
At the end of the day you can't just go down to the record store and buy experience, so i'll back Led Zeppelin with Jimi Page (Collins perhaps) to play a great solo (BOG)
A big day of Rock n Roll , Both bands will give an amazing performance, but at the end of the day, i think that Silverchair are the support band (and a quality one) to the great Led Zeppelin who will come on stage and blow everyone away.
ROCK N ROLL!!

Bundles it is no surprise Rupertswood and OC are the two sides being talked about is it? There is slightly more about Rupo, however this has a lot to do with their prelim final win.. again not surprising.

Also, I missed the game as i was in a TAB (Eremein = cox plate and Zipping = Caulfield Cup...you heard it hear) and watching the Purple Haze at AAmi Stadium (rock gag)
Will Rupo be suited as they have now played at Preston and won there?
Conditions?? injuries??
p.s. I saw this sign in the pub TAB urinal that said do you have a problem with gambling? If so ring this line 1800 5656747.
So I rang it and said I have a problem, Should I put Headturner in my quaddie or not?? ..........they hung up.

I agree Bundles always good to spice the thread up, perhaps $1000 per negative Rupo comment might make me rich. It is very hard for an old fella like me to be hold back with my love for the Rupo boys, i have seen 90% of them grow up from 8 onwards. I believe we come through some adversity in the middle of the year with a great finish.

I agree Kinbrown. Old Carey's guns have been given plenty of air time on this thread, whereas I think Rupo's good players fly under the radar a bit more. For example, I am another example of someone who was very impressed with Brennan. He is a very good player but, as far as I can remember, he hasn't been the subject of any discussion until recently. No doubt someone will pull some comments from page 51 of the thread and prove me wrong!

thank you for at least acknowledging the rock n roll,(noone else does)
secondly, played in a little band called Foregone Conclusion. Were we successful? we supported a little act called Texas, so I'll let you be the judge of that.
Thirdly, just cos its old doesn't mean its bad.... I asked for nominations of a good album produced this century, no replies. mind you noone ever replies to any thing i put up here.
Will the fact that RUPO played on Preston ground last Sat give tham an advantage?

Orange you are amazing in your music knowledge, can you quote any Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdick or Cliff Richards that may be appropriate to this week.
Perhaps Bundles might be able to quote on some John Holmes and Ron Jeremy classics that could inspire Saturdays games. I have always considered porn stars to be well drilled athletesith a workrate that should inspire all footballers.

Orange, Rupo love Preston and have a history of performing there. We have won both senior and Under 19 premierships here and the VAFA deliberately made sure we played there this year to help us.
Nice chatter gents.
Geeves made an interesting observation over afternoon tea and scones. He said that isn't it strange that BT defeat OC in the D2 GF, they both head to D1, now OC are heading to C.
Also OGS defeat Rupo in D2, they both head to D1 and now Rupo are headed to C.
Will the loser of this Saturdays game be playing B grade football in the not too distant future?
I'm not sure Geeves hasn't just slammed down one too many latte's with this peculiar stat. He does seem a little jumpy today!

Been away for some time and dissapointed to see I missed my tips last week, results are as expected for mine..
I saw Carey v Rupo in ther last round at the back ground and am not sure how carey won. Rupo seemed to have more run, more skill and more endeavour, but foir a qtr that carey kicked 5 unaswered goals.
Did not see rupo destroy BT but from all accounts they where as good that day as any teams best in this division.
They know how to win the big games, Carey I 'm not sure about in finlas and rupo will play the space better ..
So for mine Rupo to win the flag.

Any chance we could get some win odds? And possibly BOG odds?
If I were a bookie, id have:
OC - $1.85
Rupo - $2.50
Not sure on the best on odds, perhaps you could share your seemingly endless knowledge of VAFA footy and gives us the top ten faves to take out the John Manton Medal DG?

OC deserve favouritism after losing only 3 games. Plus they have had the week break and should run the game out well. They will need to as this is Rupo's big strength.

Compared to Old Carey, Rupertswood smell like Bigfoot's...
Conversation overheard between Old Carey and Rupertswood:
OC: Do you know who I am?
Ru: No, I can't say that I do.
OC: I don't know how to put this, but I'm sort of a big deal. People know me.
Ru: Well, I'm very happy for you.
OC: I'm very important. I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.
Or, to put it another way, Old Carey are the balls of D1. Rupertswood may have surprised some with their wins over their finals opponents, but let's be honest, they are about as tough as the daily MX 'Who am I' quiz. YV and OG were both overrated this year, in my opinion and they underestimated a younger, fitter and hungrier team. I've got a feeling that after a comprehensive flogging at the hands of the Panthers on Saturday, kingbrown may be getting told to:
"take it easy champ, maybe you should stop talking for a while."
"Sit the next couple of plays out."

And I'll give you a match preview tomorrow, although it won't be worth much as I've seen none of the finals so don't know how relevant my previous knowledge will be in the context of Saturday's game, other than to say I know the Rupo boys are very confident and riding a gnarley 10 foot tube at the minute that's showing no signs of stopping in a hurry, while the OC have been class all year. Should be an absorbing contest and I'll be looking for updates from the fellow Two Blues who won't be sunning themselves in Perth this week!
Utmost respect for both sides though, particularly Rupo in the way they have just gone about their business with a quiet, humble but uncompromising belief despite having doubters all through the year.
However, my interest will lie moreso in the battle between Peninsula and Oakleigh, as these will be the sides competing against us on our rise back up the ladder next year all things being equal.
Midas out!

I'm happy to place a lot of money on that not being the case, and no offence to the person I know is CMCK, but I can assure you a few of the posts that he has presented would never have come from my mouth.
I'm actually quite comfortable being out of the shroud of anonymity and would not stoop to having an alias as I am someone that will stand by my opinion no matter what it is, not use a thinly veiled ruse to fool others of my identity when making big statements. Yeah i am a closet fan Kingbrown, Dilana is pretty cool actually,
Toby goes alright
Magni bites
I'm not a huge fan of the show though, as i would have Dave Navarro on my most hated list, along with Richard wilkins, Germaine Greer and Brodie Holland. The winner is announced in about 2 hours.

Morning all,
September and finals footy, no better time of the year. This is when the cream rises, dreams realised and shattered in the blink of an eye. Two great sides will go at it in 48 hours time, but before that I thought I'd give a bit of a review of the year. Here goes...
Banyule: Showed signs of promise early, competitive games against Rupo and a victory over Yarra Valley teased us. Would be happy with Skicko, Tsingaris (early) and Taylor. For them, hopefully they can hold on to guys like these and give D2 a real shake next year.
Highs - Wins over Yarra Valley, Prahran & Emmaus
Lows - 100+ point thrashings from Old Mentonians & Old Carey, winless after round 6
Emmaus: Started in reverse by dropping the first 6 games before the big upset win over the then undefeated Rupertswood side. Looked much better after this match and would be pleased with Ballard in the ruck and LeClerc up fprward finishing with 44 goals. Will be the best side in D2 next year in my opinion, the only worry is their unders finishing last in u19sec 3, hopefully they can find some good young players to come through.
Highs - Wins over Rupo, Therry & Banyule (comfortably)
Lows - Losing the first 6, never going to be easy to recover from this start, draw against Old Mentonians
Prahran: Similar start to Emmaus but worse. 9 consecutive losses to begin the year before breaking through against Therry away in round 10. Beating Old Geelong, then the two wins at the end of the year against Emmaus then Mentonians to stay up in D1 would've had Midas quite chuffed no doubt. A great effort to avoid relegation and remain competitive after a nil-9 start.
Highs - Beating Old Geelong, Emmaus & OMs
Lows - 0-9 start
Therry: A disappointing year no doubt. Won the first 3 to be sitting pretty on top of the ladder before losing the next 4. Three of these were by less than 2 goals. Positive signs no doubt would be the form of McWhinney, Harmes in patches and Crotty. They have found a genuine star in Jarrod Bannister and his brother up forward aint too bad either - would have won the goal kicking if not for that hamstring tear mid season. A full year from Goodwin will see them tearing up the D1 ladder next year.
Highs - Beating Rupo to avoid relegation, Bannisters, Victory over Bulleen Temp in rd16
Lows - Too many close losses early cost them a finals chance, smashed by YV to finish the year.
Old Mentonians: Were a bit all over the place this year. A fantastic ground which was very difficult to win at but they seemed to struggle away. Chad and his 20men up forward was good while Basile and Vick down back were also good signs. 2 victories over BT were highlights but an absolute thrashing from the Oggery in r14 cast away any finals aspirations.
Highs - 100+ point thrashing of Banyule, 20men up forward, Goodbody and Ironmonger for their names
Lows - Thumpings from Old Geelong, Rupertswood and Old Carey, draw with Emmaus
Bulleen: Ugly, Bullant and MSJ were notably disappointed after r18 this season. Needed to avoid a loss by 70 points to stay in the finals but got done by the young Rupo team by 86. Chivers played hurt, Matthews, Burridge and Cherbakov were good but were beaten by a better side. this comp was close all year and it showed in them dropping from 2nd to 5th after one game. Sat top two for most of the year and many (including myself) had them penciled in with a date with Old Carey this weekend. 43 goals from Matthews was a good return, Chivers lead from the front and the young guys mentioned above look the goods. Bains inclusion won't hurt either. This team are in good shape with a strong under 19 team pushing up, look for them to be in the top for come this time next year.
Highs - Big come from behind wins over Rupo and Yarra, Chivers 7th in league BnF, Matthews 7th on goal kicking while spending time off half back as well
Lows - 2 losses to Old Mentonians, loss to Rupo to drop out of finals, lost last 4 games in a row
Yarra Valley: Shakey start before winning 7 of the last 9 games. Met a young running side in the first final and got run over the top of. Two big wins over OG and a comfortable victory over Rupo at home, along with the Brothers Drew, Yeo in midfield and the Keem machine at ff finishing with 49 goals were positives. Two losses to both BT and Old Carey were disappointing but proved alot of people wrong just by getting to the finals. Will be with BT in the upper portion of D1 next year and will start it from Britt and Savage off half back who were both solid all year.
Highs - Finals footy, Keem, Drew & Drew, Toohas, Yeo, big wins over the OGs
Lows - Multiple losses to BT and OC, eliminated first week of finals
Old Geelong: Would be very disappointed as DG eluded earlier in the week. Had the wood on the Woods and were confident going in to the Prelim. Someone suggested earlier an 18-0 year next year, I don't think that will be the case but they will finish on top. Rock the Casboult and the Love Bug (V-W) were good as was O O O O'Brien with 50 goals for the year. Henry Legoe was a lone force in the ruck for most of the year and Bayles, Fallaw and Bell all looked good from all reports. A great year finishing top 2 after being promoted in 2005.
Highs - Top 2 finish, wins over fellow finals contenders Rupo and Old Carey
O'Briens half tonne, the canteen staff
Lows - Multiple losses to YV, Upset by Prahran, D1 next year, straight sets exit from finals
Rupertswood: The fairytale of the season. 5th with one round to play and needing results to go their way or a 70+ point thumping of BT. No one thought it would happen. I was one of them and was left like many thinking we'd see BTvOC and OGvYV in week one of the finals. But this young side thought otherwise. Started like a bullet with 6 straight wins before realising this comp was more difficult than first thought. Stumbled around the 3-5 position before scraping in to the finals. Great performances against Old Carey (r5) and OG (r17) as well as THE victory v BT (r18). Will be competitive next year in C with young guns like Phillips, Baddeley, Moule and Quigley. While the 2nd and 3rd year senior players like Monzell, Boxall, Plummer and Brennan will have that extra experience as well. Well lead by D.Collins from half back, the Rockagebraltor as was previously mentioned had a great year with Sweeney good in the middle.
Highs - Victories over all finals participants, finals footy, promotion, Collins 2nd in BnF, form of small forwards Hatty and Whitehead
Lows - went 6-6 after winning the first 6 straight. Thrashed by OG at Como and were ordinary in the first half v Therry at home.
Old Carey: The proven form side of D1 2006. Showed with a top position finish and have the league best and fairest, equal second best and fairest and the leading goal kicker. Only losses were to BT, OG and Rupo and finished 3 games clear to testify their dominance. Will start favourite for the Grand Final and rightly so. As with Rupo, Old Carey will fit in nicely in C grade next year with a good mix of youth, aggression and experience. Not to mention skill in Collins and the late inclusion Maslin. Tiras was classy up forward and a couple of his 2005 u19 teammates also looked good in Laidlaw, Day and White. Trubmell and Parker formed a solid combination down back they've carried through from u19s footy and the ruck duo of Your Mothers Brothers (Unkles) and The Herb (Basell) fed the prune to the likes of Collins, Parton Me and Maslin all year. Well deserved of the week rest after disposing of OG comfortably in the first final and will be tough to beat on Saturday.
Highs - Promotion, Grand Finalists, 1/2 BnF finish, Leading Goalkicker, under 19s finishing on top
Lows - Few and far between but a big loss to Rupo in r6 and the loss to BT were main ones.
Cheers and best of luck to Old Carey and Rupertswood this weekend. Both sides thoroughly deserve the opportunity to win a flag and promotion. :thumbsu:
If I were a betting man, I'd take for BOG:
Old Carey: $10 on Collins @ $6.50
$10 on Tiras @ $15
$10 on Maslin @ $12
Rupertswood: $10 on Collins @ $6.50
$10 on Plummer @ $13
$10 on Gaunt @ $20

outstanding work Kev. Although I reckon you might be pumping up Matthews from BT a bit too much....I sa him play a few times this year and I think his best is WELL AND TRUELY behind him.......
Good luck to both sides on the weekend. Should be a facinating game.
Ugly will be there. Can I suggest Cramers front bar at half time for all bigfooty fans who are not participating in the game?

you certainly can suggest Cramers front bar for all big footy fans not participating....
only problem is i'll probably be dashing for the TAB at half time.
(probably trying to load up on Rupo if they're within 10 points at half time)
Did I mention that Zipping will win the CAulfield Cup, Eremein the Cox Plate, and Yeats might win the Melbourne cup.......

I will be there somewhere...maybe not at the bar, but I will be around.
DG and Geeves are in!
Weather report suggests a ripping day. 20 degress, no wind. Think both teams will be happy about this. OC will think this should suit the big boys and leading forwards, Wood, Angus and Bull. Whilst Rupo will fancy their pacy runners on top of the ground.

Funny you should mention that Whippy - I jumped on Eskander.com yesterday and got myself a piece of that Spring Carnival action. I like the way you think.
KB - I noted your long memory in your post the other day. It's true, I did serve it up to Rupo earlier in the year. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and I'm not a big man, so I will say that I still think Rupo have over achieved, it's just that I seem to have over estimated OGS and BT!
I stand by my other early season prediction in tipping OC for the flag. I actually think that they will not only win, but may bend the little boys over and give them a spanking. I am predicting a very healthy winning margin of 42 + points.

I haven't seen much D1 footy this year and haven't seen OC's but I know the rupo boys well and must tip them for the flag this year. OC can try to hit them hard but they can't get them all and Rupo have too many runners and will keep running all day. Collins is certainly a key and after captaining the last 2 losing grand finals will be hungrier than ever to snatch a win this year. In fact the team as a whole will be extremely hungry after the last 2 grand final appearances. No longer are they happy with just promotion, they want the silverware.
I hope OC are fit because they will need to run hard all day. Attack on the ball will help but it won't be enough on Preston Oval, the scene of Rupo's last 2 premierships (D4 2002 & U19 2003) A lot of the boys currently playing seniors played in that U 19 flag.
OC should have an advantage in the ruck and will need to exploit this. The T man can't do it all on his own.
Rupo by 20 points and The 'Good Kid' Daniel Burrowes or 'Captain Courageous' Dave Collins for BOG.
Go the Rooters!!!!!!!!!!!

Bede, how about you underestimated Rupo and not overestimated the others. I am sick of the continued lack of respect to Rupo including that ****er quill who called us upstarts in the Amateur book this week. You can all get stuffed, i have tried to be humble, i have tried to listen to most of your crap, we have proved we are a great club with a great future, with a great group of players. Carey will be bigger they will be stronger they will start favorites but we dont give a crap. Go Rupo.

Well I don't care who wins, I'm going early to see the ressies and get in the mood to enjoy a cracking game of footy later.
Speaking of ressies, everyone seems to think the OG steamroller will continue, if I were a betting man I'd put a tenner on Mentonians for the upset. I wonder if any of the OM U19s are backing up after their own GF against Mazenod on Friday night? Be tired lads if they are.

Kingbrown (and all other Rupo people here) - and no this is not about the Sween Machine
I am pretty familiar with alot of Rupo people and from what I have read here the OC will have the advantage in the ruck. How handy would a guy like Trent Broughton have been in this game, tall athletic player who could get around the ground pretty easily. Is there a chance he'll be back down any time soon?
And I also have to give the Rupo people a pat on the back - in a town with two other football teams that pay their players as well as losing other people to stronger Ammo clubs (like St. Bernards) they are well on the way to building a winning culture. Well done to Smacka and all the boys down there.

Nice work.
Settle down people, Rupo rock. They have had an unbelievable rise through the grades. As many of us here are associted with Ammos sides, this rise can only occur if you have:
1. Great footballers willing to play for the jumper and your team mates.
2. Solid support staff around the club.
FFS, Rupo are playing C-Grade footy in 07!!!! There are plenty of people who want to bag them....but where and what have your clubs achieved over the last 5 years?????
I've tipped OC by 3 points. Which is basically the same as saying it is a 50/50 game. Good luck to both sides.
Geeves and I can't wait for 2pm!
PS - OGS will win comfortably in the 2's. Its a Geeves Lock - 46 points!

We have a great side down at Rupo.... not a team of 3 or 4 superstars (like Carey think they have).... just an even across the board team!!
Rupo will win this weekend in a very hard fought contest... beating off the "superstars".
Rupo to win by 16 points

Brilliant review Cowboy, must've taken a long time so I suspect you are either unemployed, a uni student or both. Not enough recognition received for that. well done.
Onto tomorrow...Old Carey Vs Rupertswood. Will be a beauty. Both sides have hardness, a bit of aggro, pace, skill and don't mind playing in any conditions. I think these two teams are alot more evenly matched than many are eluding to. I'm with DG on this one, I reckon it will be very tight but as a true Yellow & Blue man I'm sticking with the Sharks by 14 points.
Cowboy, both Plummer & Gaunt played exceptionally well in that u19s GF a few years ago so I'll take them both with those odds you offered up earlier.Looking forward to a fantastic contest and wish both groups all the best.
Fare-thee-well fellow Big Footy faithful (those of us not in the ban due to GF week)
P.S: For anyone in Sunbury this afternoon (HalfBack no doubt with his love of the area) Rupo players will be in the back of the convertables - probably stolen - in the traditional GF parade with the interviews being conducted on the Attic Niteclub stairs.

Rupo will be far to quick for the big bodies of carey. OC might be bigger but rupo have shown they can mix it with the big boys. Rupo will win it from the backline, with their unbelievable pace. The big boys wont like being led out of their own 50 and into rupos and wont have the petrol tickets to stay with the likes of boxell, moule, collins, dressler and my fav for bog baddeley. Good luck to both sides but rupo for me by 6 goals

Geeves and i are heading up to Topo Gigio for a bowl of pasta. Anyone keen on a glass of wine or a bite please visit.
Seems the wheel is starting to turn Rupo's way. Tippsters are flocking to the woodsmen like never before. The love that KB and Sandra have been searching for all year is suddenly arriving in droves.
Perhaps a little too quick? Will run the OC off their legs? Interesting thoughts.
Would love to hear from either team on any selection surprises from last night. Geeves was at an Institute of Modern Butlers (IOMB) dinner last night and was unable to gather any selection dirt.
Cheers - DG
